Dr. John Lucey – Heros who do good work

Dr. John Lucey is an orthopedic surgeon from Asheville, NC.  He was originally from Staten Island.  Dr. Lucey earned his medical degree at Drexel University and interned at Duke Hospital in North Carolina.  Dr. Lucey is 74 years of age.  He has been practicing medicine for 47 years.  This past year, Dr. Lucey came out of retirement to do what he could in war torn Iraq as part of the organization Samaritan’s Purse. He said he was shocked by what he saw.  “I came here, and probably the first two days I could almost not take it. I’ve seen a lot of trauma but I’ve never seen anything to this extent,” he said.  Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine.
