James O’Neill on the CATS Roundtable Radio Show

About James O’Neill

Commissioner James O’Neill is the Police Commissioner of New York City.  He succeeded Commissioner Bill Bratton September 2016. Prior to his appointment as Police Commissioner, O’Neill served as NYPD’s Chief of Department, the highest uniformed position in the department, from 2014-2016.  O’Neill joined the New York City Transit Police in 1983, and began his career as a patrolman in Transit District 1. He was promoted to Sergeant in September 1987 and to Lieutenant in April 1991.  Between 1995 – 2014, Commissioner O’Neill received one promotion after another, 1997 Captain, 2001 Deputy Inspector, 2003 Inspector, 2005 Deputy Chief and in 2014 Chief of Patrol and that same year Chief of Department.  Commissioner O’Neill has received wide praise in the short few months since his appointment in September.
