The show

The Cats Roundtable began in March 2014 on AM 970 The Answer (WNYM) in New York as a Sunday-morning hour of interviews; the announced first guests were Rudy Giuliani and George Pataki. In 2020, after John Catsimatidis’s Red Apple Media bought 77 WABC, the show moved to WABC, where it has aired since — today Sundays from 8 to 10 AM Eastern, barring the occasional pre-emption. A one-hour national edition is syndicated by Red Apple Audio Networks to affiliate stations around the country, Sundays 9–10 AM Eastern.

The format is a run of short, one-on-one conversations with the people making the news — senators and governors, business leaders, doctors and journalists — plus a group of weekly regulars. 77 WABC produces the show and publishes every interview the same day as an episode of the Cats Roundtable podcast; on this site each interview has its own page with the audio, and recent ones a transcript.

Guests have included President Donald Trump, Senators Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo; Guests A–Z lists everyone who has appeared on this site. John also co-hosts Cats & Cosby with Rita Cosby on 77 WABC, weekdays 5–6 PM and Sundays 10–11 AM.

John Catsimatidis

John Catsimatidis was born in 1948 on the Greek island of Nisyros, came to New York as an infant and grew up in Harlem. He opened his first Red Apple grocery store on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in 1971 and is chairman and chief executive of the Red Apple Group, whose holdings include the Gristedes supermarkets, United Refining Company and Red Apple Media, owner of 77 WABC since March 2020. He was a candidate for the Republican nomination for mayor of New York City in 2013. His book, How Far Do You Want To Go? Lessons from a Common-Sense Billionaire, is on the homepage.
