Cookie Policy

Last updated Oct. 6, 2026. Version 5 — replaces the earlier cookie policy in full; version 5 notes that Google’s click identifier in cats_attr is also what the weekly report to Google Ads is keyed on (from Oct. 13, 2026; no tag, nothing set in your browser); version 4 (Oct. 6, 2026) recorded that this Site replaced the previous catsroundtable.com on Oct. 6, 2026; version 3 (Oct. 4, 2026) listed the PostHog local-storage item as in use (no cookie).

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser; local storage is a similar space a page can write to. This page lists every one The Cats Roundtable website (the “Site”, operated by Red Apple Media, Inc. — “we”) uses, who sets it, what it is for and how long it lasts, and how to turn each one off. For what we do with the information, see the Privacy Policy.

Our approach

  • No cookie banner. Nothing on the Site requires consent under U.S. law: the Site runs no advertising or cross-site tracking code, and the few items below are either strictly necessary for a feature you use or first-party measurement under a random identifier. We prefer a clear list to a banner that blocks the page.
  • No social-media pixels, no Google Analytics, no cookie from any ad network or data broker — the one campaign cookie is our own, cats_attr, below.
  • No accounts, no shopping — so no login, session or purchase cookies.
  • Your opt-out: the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer leads to the Privacy Policy section that explains our position (we do not sell; the weekly report to Google Ads is the one disclosure that may count as sharing), and a browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal is treated as having opted out — the Site’s analytics code does not run for that browser, so its visits are never in that report.

Set by the Site

  • cats_attr — cookie, first party, 90 days (also mirrored in local storage). Set only when you arrive through a link that carries campaign codes (Google’s click identifier or “utm” parameters). Stores those codes, the page you landed on and the time, so we can tell which campaigns bring listeners. It identifies a campaign (and, for a Google ad, the click), not you. Strictly first party; no script from any advertiser reads it. From Oct. 13, 2026 Google’s click identifier is also what we use, once a week, to tell Google Ads which ad visits led to a listen or an email signup — never with a name, email address or IP address (Privacy Policy, Sale and sharing); for a browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal the Site’s analytics code does not run, so visits made with the signal are never reported.
  • cats:player — local storage, first party, until you clear it. The interview you were listening to and the second you stopped at, so the player can offer “Resume”. Never leaves your device.
  • cats:player-mode — local storage, first party, until you clear it. Whether you chose the Site’s own controls or the Spreaker widget as your player. Never leaves your device.

Set by services we use

  • PostHog (analytics) — local storage, first party, under a name that begins with “ph_”; no cookie (the Site runs PostHog in local-storage-only mode, so the Site’s one cookie stays cats_attr). Holds a random visitor identifier until you clear your browser data, to count a returning browser once and to see which pages are read, which campaigns bring listeners and whether the player is used — never tied to a name or email address, never recording what you type, only on the Site’s own hosts, and never for a browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal. Provider: PostHog, Inc., United States. PostHog privacy policy
  • Cloudflare Turnstile (the contact form only) — when the spam check is active, Cloudflare may set a cookie whose name begins with “cf_” on that page for the duration of the check, to complete it without a puzzle. Provider: Cloudflare, Inc. Cloudflare privacy policy
  • Spreaker (the audio player) — the audio streams from Spreaker, which hosts 77 WABC’s podcast, inside a player frame; when the player loads and when you press play, Spreaker may set its own cookies and identifiers and load its own analytics in that frame under its own policy, which we do not control. Provider: Spreaker Inc., an iHeartMedia company. Spreaker privacy policy
  • SoundCloud or Megaphone (some archive interviews) — those players load when you scroll to them, not when you press play, and may set their own cookies and load their own analytics: the Megaphone player loads Google Tag Manager as soon as it is on screen. The page names the service above each one. Providers: SoundCloud Global Limited & Co. KG; Megaphone (Spotify AB). SoundCloud privacy policy
  • Sentry (error reports) sets no cookie. Vercel (hosting) sets no cookie on the public Site. The live stream opens on wabcradio.com in a new tab, where the station’s own cookie policy applies.

Not on the Site, and not planned for launch

No Google Analytics, Google Ads conversion tag or Meta pixel is on this Site, and none was added when this Site replaced the previous catsroundtable.com on Oct. 6, 2026. The weekly report to Google Ads (from Oct. 13, 2026) is made from our own records by the click identifier, not by a tag, and sets nothing in your browser. If a tag is ever added later, it will be listed here by cookie name, provider and duration before it is live, and the Site will honour the Global Privacy Control signal against it.

Turning them off

Your browser’s settings let you block or delete cookies and local storage for this Site or for all sites, and most browsers offer a private window that forgets everything when closed. The Site works without any of the items above — the only differences are that the player will not remember where you stopped or which player you chose, and we will not know you came back. A browser that sends the Global Privacy Control signal keeps the Site’s analytics off entirely — PostHog never loads for it; to keep the players’ frames from setting cookies, block third-party cookies.
