John:                     Good morning America. This is the CATS Roundtable, John Catsimatidis here. It’s Sunday morning and we [inaudible 00:00:07] a lot of celebrities on this show. This morning we have Arianna Huffington, one of the most successful ladies I know. She started the Huffington Post. She was editor and chief and then she sold that for a zillion dollars and now she’s in Thrive Global. Good morning Arianna Huffington, how are you?

Arianna:               Good morning John. Great to be speaking with you. My fellow Greek.

John:                     Well you know and tell us about the Huffington Post. That was exciting times for you.

Arianna:               Yes I launched the Huffington Post in 2005, sold it to AOL in 2011 and ran it for about six years after that and then, as you know, I had become more and more passionate about doing something to deal with the stress and paramount epidemic that so many … millions of people are suffering from around the world. So I left to launch a new company, Thrive Global and we work with corporations to change the culture to improve engagement, productivity, and reduce health care costs and also have a media platform where people write about the way they are both productive and thriving in their lives and launching a digital product to scale faster. So it’s really addressing a big pain point in our culture, as you know John, of people feeling fried, overwhelmed and increasingly addicted to their phones.

John:                     Tell us about Thrive Global. I mean I’m getting older and I can’t sleep that well at night and I’m always stressed, I’m always running, running, running. What do you do for people like that?

Arianna:               Well I’m so happy you said that because we help tremendously. We have an entire program around sleep that will help you both fall asleep and stay asleep or if you wake up in the middle of the night, be able to go to back to sleep. A program around a mental state because a lot of people worry a lot about the future or ruminate about the past. A program around eating and movement, the whole human being. We Greeks believe that you have to approach the whole human, not just a part of it. And to start with sleep, since you mentioned that John. We believe in micro steps. Small, daily, incremental steps that change our lives over time. And the first step micro step around sleep is to pick a time at the end of the day that you declare the end of your working day and you take your phone, you power it down and you charge it outside your bedroom. That is key. I bet you sleep with your phone, am I right?

John:                     It’s at least six inches away.

Arianna:               Yeah, but it’s on your nightstand right?

John:                     Yes, yes.

Arianna:               Yeah. So I think that would be the first step because your phone is not really a phone. It’s a repository of every project, every problem, everything you’re dealing with and if it’s right next to you, even if you’re not snuggled up with it, it means that first of all if you wake up in the middle of the night, you’re more likely to go to your phone because you are not falling right back asleep and you want to occupy yourself with something. So I think that’s the first step that I would highly recommend. You can get a beautiful alarm clock to wake you up or you can have Alexa or Google wake you up. And then in the morning, we recommend that you take one minute before you go to your phone to remember what you’re grateful for and to set your intention for the day and not to immediately be overwhelmed by what comes from your phone.

John:                     So it’s a combination of diet and stress and life that you recommend?

Arianna:               I would say the first thing is to realize, to look at your beliefs. We start with people’s beliefs because people will believe that the only way they succeed is to be always on. You need to address the beliefs. We have workshops, we have a fantastic facilitator who is trained, thousands of facilitators around the world and we work with companies ranging from J.P Morgan and Bridgewater to startups in Silicon Valley and we start with people’s beliefs and then we show them how in fact, when they take care of themselves in every way, they’re much more productive. You don’t have to sacrifice productivity and performance when you take care of yourself and we have major athletes, whether it’s Andre Iguodala or Tom Brady who demonstrate that by prioritizing their well being.

John:                     Now where is this facility located?

Arianna:               We are in SoHo, but we do workshops all around the world. We’ve done workshops in 40 countries. We also have an office in San Francisco, an office in Mumbai and we launched in Greece. We launched Thrive Global in Greece in partnership with The Antenna Group, Kyriakos group.

John:                     Now how would anybody … if I feel that you can help me with my diet, my sleep, my health, how would I find you? Do you have a website?

Arianna:               Yes, we have a website, thriveglobal.com and it has a lot of content and how you can find us. Of course you have my personal email so you can email me and get special treatment because you and I have been friends forever, but we’re available to anyone and if somebody works for a particular company, they can also mention it to their HR department and then we can work directly with their HR department, but we believe it’s important to look both at work culture and also habits that people have that get in the way of their well being, stress, performance, and all the other problems that modern men and women are facing.

John:                     As people get older they need to deal with their stress, deal with their diets and thriveglobal.com it is? And find out how they can live longer.

Arianna:               Thriveglobal.com yes, and it’s not just as people get older because millennials are suffering from skyrocketing rates of depression, anxiety, stress, so it’s actually across any age job, but John, I’m so happy you’re interested in the topic because I think through your network and through your own [inaudible 00:08:03], you can make a big difference.

John:                     Well, Arianna Huffington, the founder of the Huffington Post. Thank you so much for coming on our show and I’m gonna repeat the website again, thrive T-H-R-I-V global.com and hopefully, you’re helping people live longer and enjoy life better.

Arianna:               Thank you so much, great speaking with you. Bye.

John:                     Okay bye bye. And we’ll catch up again real soon. This is the CATS Round Table, we’ll be right back.
