About Eric Adams
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams was drawn to public service at an early age – wanting to go into law enforcement as early as age 15 after he and one of his brothers were beaten badly by police officers. In 1984 – Eric graduated from the Police Academy as the highest-ranked student in his class. He went on to serve in the New York City Police Department for 22 years – starting in the New York City Transit Police reaching the rank of captain. In 2006 – Eric retired from the NYPD to make a successful run for the New York State Senate 20th State Senatorial District in Brooklyn. In 2013 – Eric was elected the first African-American to serve as Brooklyn Borough President.
