Interview Highlights

On the threat of terrorism in NYC: “Leave the worrying and the planning to us…We’ll be in the background, and people should feel safe because we’re there.”

“If you look at Paris, what you see is people who were probably trained, hardened fighters who fought in Syria, who then were smuggled into Europe, who got together and did this. Our counter-terrorism force that we’ve been building is geared to go up against just that kind of attacker, if need be.”

The NYPD’s security operations on Thanksgiving were “flawless” — thanks to more than 1,500 uniformed officers…they are “trained, armed, prepared, ready to go, which puts us ahead of any other city in the United States by far and likely any other city in the world.”

“We will be at a state of heightened alert through the holidays…We want to be watchful, we want to be careful…What we don’t want to do is make the conversations around the holidays about fear and not the holidays.”
