Automated transcript · uncorrectedWith us today is Mario Economo. He gives us a weekly update on what the heck is going on in Europe and Mario tell us what’s going on?
Yes, good morning, mister Katsumativus. I thought i’d start off today with some election results that have come out in Europe, various elections around different countries, as well as some upcoming ones. So there was an election in Poland, if you recall, we discussed that and the outcome actually was that the Law and Justice Party won. It took the most seats,
but the problem is it doesn’t have enough seats to create a coalition government, and the other parties that actually did win enough seats to create a coalition government are most likely going to be led by the former Prime Minister of Poland and the European Council President and gentlemen by the name of Donald Tusk. He seems more europe
He means more moving away from what the Law and Justice Party represented, So it’s probably I would say, a tilt to the left. If we look at the UK, we will see that there were several two specifically by elections in the United Kingdom that the Labor Party has won and based on what the polls are saying, and
the way the Labor Party is winning seats, more likely than not in the election next year, the Labor Party, which is the left wing party in the United Kingdom will actually come back into power. In Germany, where there was some regional elections and specifically in Bavaria where the city of Munich is based, and in another state where
the financial capital of Frankfurt is based, the Christian Democrats, which is a center right party one and they were followed by the Alternative for Germany, which is the far right party. In Switzerland, there’s going to be an election coming up and they’re going to be discussing several things.
It looks like the far right party in Switzerland will win. One of the discussions they’re going to be having is specifically that of whether or not Switzerland should take positions in things and therefore abandon its long standing neutrality so that it can always act as in the role of a mediator. And a lot of this has revolves around
the situation specifically with Hamas, because the current law as it’s written in Switzerland says that Switzerland can only ban organizations for example, ISIS and al Qaeda, which are subject to UN sanctions, but it cannot with Hamascas. Hamas is not subject to UN sanctions. Therefore, that would require a law change, and that’s one of the things that’s going
to be discussed. As we move away from Europe and we move over to China and to President Putin’s recent visit there where there were many other countries president as well. We see that President Putin and President she of China are actually forging much closer ties than people’s thought. And Russia has said that it’s going to seek regular security
with North Korea and with China, and in fact, Russia did something interesting. It has asked India, the country of India, to actually pay for the oil that they import the crude from Russia in Chinese Yuan, which the people the government of India has expressed no interest in doing. But it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out. If
we can just roll over now to the Middle East and what’s going on there, there’s going to actually be a very large meeting tomorrow in Egypt where different countries are actually going to go. You’re going to have the Egyptians hosting the event, and it looks like Germany will be present, as will the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister
of Greece will go as well, and various Arab countries will be present as well. And the idea of course there is to see what type of an agreement can be reached so that a much larger scale war can be avoided in that region. If in fact there was a much larger war in that region, the impact on
the price of oil and of course on human lives would be catastrophic.
For everybody understood. The price of oil is going up because nobody knows what the heck is going on, and the bombings are continuing. And. Well, you know, we pray for all any news updates of the country of Turkey. Where did they stand.
Yeah, so they’re going to actually be at this meeting tomorrow in Egypt as well. And Turkey is an interesting situation. We’ve discussed whether Turkey should be a member of NATO or not. Turkey has come out very strongly in support of the Palestinians. We know that much of the Hamas leadership now actually resides in Turkey. There are all sorts
of stories which are coming out about whether or not it was Turkia that actually has armed. The short answer is we don’t know. We do know that Turkia is a very important and strong country. It’s only a regional player.
It’s becoming substantially more than that. And the last thing we want to see happen is them actually join their forces with Iran in a broad Muslim coalition against Israel and the West. That’s why I think everybody needs to take a deep breath, and everybody needs to go back to the drawing board and see if we can resolve
this situation peacefully. Many countries, including the Russians, have said that there needs to be a two state solution, as outlined by the United Nations. I’m not sure the Israelis are presently prepared to engage in that effort, but as sooner or later, I suspect they will have to because the pressures on everybody in the world are going to
be too great and we’re going to need to find a peaceful solution. The last thing the world needs is another rain on everybody’s border.
Now, we talked about President c and President and putin meeting together. I was with Kissinger the other day on what day was it, Thursday? Thursday night, and he has just gotten back from five days with the President C so just I mean, I’m scratching him. I had that’s not a coincidence. Does that mean he was in the meetings?
Yeah? So yes, if he was in China and he just got back from five days of meetings in China, then yes, more likely than not. Although I can’t confirm that he must have been at this event that the Chinese were hosting that I understand dozens of countries actually attended that.
That that is strange. That is strange. Well, thank you so much for calling in from Europe. Keep us updated. If there’s any urgencies, please text me and we’ll put you right on breaking news on WABC.
Thank you so much, Thank you. Enjoy your day.
