Interview Highlights

On the NYS and NYC budgets:

There “is good news on both fronts.”

“The NYC economy continues to be very strong, revenues are coming in higher than expected…the city has settled most labor agreements, and health insurance savings are coming in…the out year budget gaps are narrowing.”

Regarding his MTA audit released last week on service between March 2013 and 2014:

“They have a deteriorating on-time performance record. They’ve actually lowered their expectations. They had a goal of about 90% to 92% on-time performance. They’re falling behind on meeting that…And instead of gearing up to meet that, they’re lowering the goal to 75%.”

“We’ve urged the MTA to go back to the drawing board and really look at what some of the root causes are of these delays because I think the riders are feeling it, they’re not happy about it, and certainly during a time when the MTA is looking for more support and resources, they need to do a better job.”
