Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday Morning with Us today is Nick Bryant, and he’s the author, an investigative journalist, and he wrote a book, The Truth About Watergate. This week is the fiftieth anniversary of President Nixon resigning was a fair and square A lot of people don’t think so. We had a member of the family, Ed Cox, before talking about for the
first time in fifty years, the family’s position on that. Now today, Nick Bryant wrote a new book. Nick, tell us about that book that you wrote. It’s The Truth about Watergate by Nick Bryant and Liars.
And in Wandergate there were a number of extraordinary life and liars in the book. I show that Nixon getting deposed wasn’t an act of democracy, but rather it was a CIA plot to get rid of him. Nixon had bucked the CIA and the Pentagon because he wanted to establish diplomatic relations with both China and he wanted to
do strategic arm limitations with Russia. And he was doing those negotiations secretly because he knew that the Hawks. He had once been in the dominion of the Hawks, and he knew that there was going to be a tremendous amount of blowback or befriending China and also strategic limitations with Russia.
And how did it come around? Have you during your research did you find specific people that you felt were more responsible than others?
Definitely, the Joint chiefs started a espionage ring against Nixon because Nixon was doing these negotiations plandestinely, and they knew he was doing these negotiations plandestimally, so his own chiefs of staff executed a espionager against him and the Nixon administration ultimately out of that espionagering, it’s called the more Radford affair. And then the CIA started penetrating and infiltrating
Nixon’s administration and ultimately a couple of CIA agents who had a tremendous amount of antipathy towards Nixon. Actually, the CIA director, Richard Helms had antivity towards Nixon, and so did a number of the CIA agents that infiltrated the Nixon administration. And it was ultimately Watergate was the brainchild more or less of James McCord, who was one of
the CI againts who had a tremendous amount of antivity towards an exodus. And James McCord what people don’t understand is that the Watergate was broken into twice. The Democratic National Committee was on the sixth floor, and McCord really tried very hard to get busted the first time, and he at eleven thirty at night, he and for Cubans,
and the four Cubans have been cists. They signed into the eighth floor of the Watergate, which is the Federal Reserve Board, and the Federal Reserve Board had been burgled the previous month, so he thought for sure he would get busted at that point, but the security guard had like the it of an avocado. So the next time
they broke in, McCord had a confederate called the DC to and the DC Police were three policemen were part two blocks away from the Watergate when the call came in.
And who was deep throat?
Deep throw was a composite. There is no way the way that Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein described deep throat. It’s just not according to the laws of physics, it’s not possible. Bob Woodward had been an intelligence and had worked their naval intelligence, and he befriended Alexander Haig when he was with an actually debrief Haig and Haig became
Nixon’s chief staff, and ultimately it was not Mark Felt, it was Alexander Haig who is faeding information to Woodward that was extremely damaging. The thing is Mark Felt had been fired from the FBI, and he lived in Virginia.
And Woodward’s cover story is that de Throat would pass his apartment every day and if Woodward moved the flower plant or the flower pot, they would have a clandestine meeting in an underground garage in Virginia. But here’s the thing.
Don’t lived in Virginia. And if Woodward’s tale is true, he would have to drive into Washington, DC every day, but no one could see the flower pot from the street because Woolbard faced a courtyard, So Dee Throat would have had to have driven down an alley and got out of his car and looked up straight up to
see whether or not the flower pot. So just that show that Woodward is lying about Petro. And he also said that Dietro, if Petro wanted to meet him, he would put h he would put a clock on page twenty of the New York Times, and then that clock signified when they would meet. And Lulbert said that the
paper would be put in front of his door in the morning. But that’s not true. All the papers were put in a pile in that particular apartment building. So there’s no way that Felt could have known or Dietro could have known who was going to get that particular edition of The New York Times.
Understood, give me a conclusion, we got thirty seconds.
The Waldgate is not a shining example of democracy, and it’s not a shining example of the media or the Fourth Estate. Watergate was a silent coup. The Hawks and the CIA Nixon out, and they were the ones that initially had the motive and the means to get him out.
And ultimately, because of Woodward and Bernstein, those lies got spun larger and larger and larger until they reached the critical mass. And it is true that Nixon did try to cover up the Watergate break in, but he did not know about the Watergate. He had no premeditation of the Watergate break in. And actually no one, no senior
person on his staff, knew about the Watergate breaking. This was done plandestinely without any of them knowing about it.
