Speaker 1 Sunday Morning with us today is doctor Peter Michlos, and well, a lot of things are happening in science, a lot of things are happening in medicine. And how do we say it, Live long and prosper, doctor Milos, what’s going on?

Speaker 2 Well, good morning, John, and amazing things are really happening in medicine. And I don’t really get too excited about a lot of things, but this is very exciting. And we have something called antibiotic resistance, where a lot of antibiotics are no longer effective against a lot of different problems that we have, and antibiotics are needed to treat

infections because before antibiotics many people were dying. There’s something called methicide resistance staph areas, which is a type of bacteria that is resistant to a lot of current antibiotics. And there’s also a flesh eating bacteria called staff Biogenies, which I actually he saw once when I was a fellow at Columbian. It was wild that two hours later

it was marching down somebody’s face and it could actually actually eat the flesh, and it’s pretty scary. And what happened was that a scientist in Sweden Frederick Almquist cooborating with Washington University scientists in Saint Louis. They said, you know, we need to find a better antibiotic for urinary tract infections, which are called Gram negative infections. The type of bacteria

it’s got a different cell wall. But it turned out that this compound that he developed did not work great against the Gram negatives. But what they found was it worked miraculously against these Gram positive and resistant bacteria, like the fresh flesh eating bacteria in the MRSA. And they call this PS seven five seven the compound, and they’ve

gotten patented and they’re licensing to some company in the United States and they’re going to start developing a medicine from this and star clinical trials. So that’s going to be a real game changer for all these people who suffer from bad bacterial infections like bad pneumonia’s and a lot of skin infections that aren’t under control. So we

look forward to hearing more about this compound. The other fascinating study right out of our own top university in New York, Columbia University looked at urine samples and they found that the people who had a entire mortality of heart disease. They found that they had more cadmium and uranium and tungsten in their urine, and those things can

also damage the kidney and the heart and they can cause heart atherosclerosis. Now, these are non essential metals that are not supposed to be in our bodies.

Speaker 1 Cadmium were a tungstant Cadmium, tungsten, and uranium. I mean, we’ve taken almost every test there is. I’ve never taken a cadmium or test. No.

Speaker 2 I know it’s well because not many labs do that test. But it’s really involuntary exposure to air and dust and water and food and fascinating. This month’s Consumer Reports cover is toxic dust and it talks about in the cities, especially that they analyze the dust that we see. You know, we’re always cleaning dust, and we always talk about to

show the importance of having a HEPA filter in your house and your office. And it turns out that the dust contains a lot of lead mercury. The flame retardants and stain resistors that they put on furniture and carpets turned out to be what our goal forever chemicals, and they are also associated with cancer, hormone disruption, and toxicity

the reproductive system. So we’re trying to learn more and more. And at the same time, another study just came out saying how Generation X and people born even from nineteen ninety there’s a much higher incidence of cancer. And even things like particle board furniture are made with formaldehyde, and those things create an indoor toxic air and toxic environment,

you know now like the good old days, good old fashioned fresh air, just like you talk about the great buildings down in Coney Island and breathing the fresh air and you’ll live longer, And now there’s really a lot of truth to that. And breathing that fresh ocean air without the toxic chemicals and dust, it really makes a difference.

So these are things that I think we have to pay more attention to. And even in our cars, as we’ve talked about in WBC, change your cabin filter it’s a EPI filter at least twice a year. Keep the indoor air in your car fresh and clean. And we talked about tire rubbers. Remember your tires wear down. Where

does all that microplastic go when you have your windows rolled down and you’re in that convertible and there’s a thousand cars in front of you on the highway. Guess what you’re breathing in a lot of these microplastics and toxic chemicals. So, unfortunately, we don’t want to sound paranoid, but it’s probably a good idea to protect ourselves because

our ancestors a thousand years ago did not have these toxins and microplastics that we brought out of the soil and that we mine. Things like that didn’t exist in our ancestors, So we have to be careful. Try to stay help me, try to avoid some of these things, Go to a doctor, do some testing, have annual physicals,

and continue to listen to WABC to learn more about these exciting new forefronts and discoveries in medicine.

Speaker 1 Well, that is a lot of medicine, and there’s wonderful things happening in stem cells and too, and maybe we can talk about it next week.

Speaker 2 Absolutely, it’s a great exciting topic regenerative medicine, and we want people to continue to listen to WABC and they to live long and prosper and always consult with your physician on any care that you get well.

Speaker 1 Thank you doctor Pinamhillos and we’ll talk again.

Speaker 2 We’ll thank you John for always getting the truth out on the Cats round Table.
