Cutting-Edge Strategies for Extending Human Health and Longevity
Dr. Peter Michalos
WABC medical expert Dr. Peter Michalos tells John Catsimatidis that his new book, The Death of Aging, co-authored with Dr. Magdalena Swierczewski, has an entire chapter on probiotics and foods that boost immune function and reduce inflammation. He says a probiotic is recommended with an antibiotic, taken three hours apart. Asked when we break the code that shuts us off, he thinks Dr. Yamanaka in Japan has identified it.
Key takeaways
- Michalos named Greek yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi and miso as foods associated with promoting good bacteria.
- He said to look for GMP certification, USA Made and third-party testing when buying supplements.
- He said two of the first three humans given ER-100 showed improvements in their peripheral vision.
- He said CRISPR can splice out the bad genes in sickle cell disease.
- He said pharmaceutical companies spend billions of dollars to produce new medicines and cures.
In their words
“It’s like a garden with 30 trillion different actual bacterial and viral cells in your gut, and you have to keep a balance.”
“It looks like we do know that there is a younger version and software of ourselves and that we can reprogram it.”
“we have to be careful because price controls result in shortages.”

Transcript
Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning, we have Dr. Peter Michalos, Live Long and Prosper. And what does he do? Well, a lot of our listeners are living longer because they’re listening to Dr. Peter Michalos, and he’s got a new book. And Dr. Peter, tell us about the book.
The book is called The Death of Aging, and you can find it on Amazon and hardcover, and the website is thedeathofaging.com. And there you can find all the things that we talk about on the great Cats Roundtable show, where you can add years to your life and life to your years. And today we’re going to talk about
a topic that’s very important. We even dedicated an entire chapter in our new book that I co-authored with Dr. Delaina Socheski on the death of aging, on probiotics and the importance of probiotics and what foods to eat to boost the immune system function to reduce inflammation. And even they found that some of the good bacteria are able
to lower cholesterol. And certain bacterial strains, they actually can help conditions like reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and even diarrhea associated with antibiotic overuse. And sometimes if you take too many antibiotics, you can end up with diarrhea because you damage some of the good bacteria. That’s why it’s recommended to take a probiotic when you take an antibiotic,
but you have to take them three hours apart because the antibiotic will even kill the good bacteria in the probiotic. And also, sometimes after you take antibiotics, it’s good to take a.
Probiotic for up to 10 days. Now, would you take the probiotic three hours after or three hours before?
Either one, just as long as it’s not the same time, so you’re not killing off the good bacteria. It’s like a garden with 30 trillion different actual bacterial and viral cells in your gut, and you have to keep a balance.
And that’s why certain foods are also associated with promoting the good bacteria, like Greek yogurt. Kefir, sauerkraut is an amazing source of good bacteria. Kimchi, which is fermented vegetables and other fermented foods like what you get in a Japanese restaurant with the miso soup. The miso also contains a lot of the good bacteria. So that’s why after
you use a broad-spectrum antibiotic, you want to replant the garden of your gut with all these good, amazing foods. And you also, when you want to get supplements, we know that supplements are very important, and you learn about different things, just like Recently, now that we’ve seen more and more research, for example, selenium helps men with prostate health,
or vitamin D helps keep our telomeres, the end caps on our chromosomes, longer, and it’s been found to be an anti-aging medicine. But when you look at supplements, you want to look for GMP, Good Manufacturing Practices Certification. You want to look for USA Made. You want to look for third-party testing. And there are actually websites you can
look to see if your medicine is third-party tested. And one of them is labdoor.com or consumerlab.com. And you can actually see if they’re third-party tested. And you can see if the ingredients are real or where they’re made, the country of origin. It’s very important. And now we’ve also learned some amazing things about the kidney, where they found
certain bacteria. There’s one called PS128, which was found to be helpful, for example, in Parkinson’s. And other good bacteria like acromantia were found to be helpful in people with chronic kidney disease. So... The future of treating even neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, they found that if you can balance the bacteria in the gut, you can improve these conditions.
So our science is moving at warp speed. Absolutely. We’re learning so much more, John. And even from the gases produced in our gut, there’s even a company, Rua Diagnostics, that’s working on measuring the gases when you breathe into a mask. And it can tell you whether you have colon cancer or lung cancer. They’re claiming in the next
few years these tests will be out. So there’s just amazing things happening here in the United States. How soon?
The other thing me and you talk about at dinner or lunch is the fact of longevity. How soon do we break the code that shuts us off at the age of 95, give or take.
A few years? Well, I think the code has been identified by Dr. Yamanaka in Japan. That’s why they were able to reverse blindness in mice and apes. And they did. The first humans on June 9th and two out of the three showed improvements in their peripheral vision. They just gave a second dose of the medicine called ER100. So
we’re following that very closely. It looks like we do know that there is a younger version and software of ourselves and that we can reprogram it. And the amazing developers in CRISPR, all the people who suffer from with sickle cell disease, especially in the African-American community, that you can actually splice out the bad genes. So could you
imagine that if you have a genetic predisposition for diabetes or I have a genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s, that we can go in and actually splice our genes and improve our situation?
Is it 10 years away? Is it 20 years away? Is it 30 years away?
It’s actually about... three to five years maybe with the OSK technology. The CRISPR technology is here. It’s just a matter of making sure that we continue to fund the great work of the scientists and researchers in this country because we have to be careful because price controls result in shortages. So We talk about expensive pharmaceutical products, but
we have to respect that the pharmaceutical companies are also spending billions of dollars to produce all these amazing new medicines and cures. And, you know, we’re grateful to be in America where we have the freedom to do these things.
Now, tell us, we’re out of time, but tell us about the name of your book and where they can get it again.
It’s called The Death of Aging, and you can just go to the link, thedeathofaging.com. It’s available in hardcover on Amazon because there’s been a bunch of counterfeit paperbacks out there, but there’s only one real book, 521 pages, and also available as an e-book, and they can learn about all the great things that we talk about all the time
on WABC to help people live long and prosper.
God bless. Thank you for calling in, and we’ll talk again soon. Thank you so much.
Thanks for always getting the truth out on the Cats Roundtable.
