Speaker 1 With us today is a longtime friend. We know each other for a long time, since he was a kid. His name is Constantine Marulis, a singer an actor. Constantine fill us in What are you doing these days?

Speaker 2 Well, John, thank you so much for having me. You know, I’ve had the pleasure of developing a new musical bound for Broadway called rock and Roll Man. It’s about the birth of rock and roll during segregation. A great disruptor who ended up working at WABC in his last days, Alan Freed. He coined the phrase rock and roll. He

played black artists on the radio and produced desegregated concerts with Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee, Lewis Laverne Baker. In fact, my mom used to attend some of the rock and roll concerts in the early fifties at the Brooklyn Paramount.

So we are running right now in New York in the heart of Broadway. Rock and Roll Man the musical. It’s a great fifties piece. It’s got all the great songs that cousin Brucey plays and some original material as well.

And I don’t think you’d recognize me in the show. I’m completely transformed into a nineteen fifties guy, short hair. You know, cool suits and everything.

Speaker 1 You’ve always won had long hair since I’ve known you. And where is it playing in New York.

Speaker 2 It’s playing at New World Stages, just off Broadway, right in the heart of Manhattan, West fiftieth Street. It’s actually the theater I began Rock of Ages in many years ago, and then we took it to Broadway and all over the world and a movie with Tom Cruise. So I think we have big plans for the show, and we

just might have some of that magic dust as well. It’s almost similarly titled, but it’s very different. It’s Rock and roll Man the Musical.

Speaker 1 Well, you know, I love music. I look forward to coming and seeing the show because music is just I think it makes your mind feel good, it makes your body feel good. And I look forward to seeing you.
