Speaker 1 With us today is Congresswoman John Kingyons from Virginia. It must be Virginia is turning around. We had Governor Youngkin on our show on w ABC a few days ago, and Virginia is making a real turnaround. Congresswoman tell us all the problems in our in Virginia, in our country that you are newly elected and want to make sure

that things turn around.

Speaker 2 Yeah, thank you, thanks so much for having me today, John, and and we are making progress, especially from Virginia. I proudly represent the second Congressional District and this is one of the key races that Republicans won this year to take back the US House of Representative. So it was a great victory. And it’s wonderful to be in the

majority in Washington, d C. In the House so we can actually get some things done, which we are making progress. You know.

Speaker 2 It spent Monday will be one hundred days that we have had the new majority in place, and we are slowly chipping away at fulfilling. Our campaign promises the commitment to America that that we ran off of. We’ve we’ve you know, we we campaigned to lower energy costs and hold China accountable reduce crime and uh, you know, just

provide Americans with government that’s transparable, trans transparent, and accountable. And so we are doing these things. We have passed things like the Parents Bill of Rights, which was HR five, which really gave parents, you know, a say in their kids’ education, and it was a transparency bill. And and we passed HR one last week, which was a Lower

Energy Cost Act, and that’s to stimulate increasing domestic energy production and reforming the permitting process and just reversing some of the anti energy policies that the Biden administration has put put in place and boosting production of critical minerals in our country. So we are we are slowly doing these things that that we campaigned off of. We’re demonstrating

what Republican leadership looks like in the US House because you know, we have an election in Virginia, we have an election every year, believe an election, a very important election coming up in twenty twenty four. So we need people to see what conservative leadership looks like. You know that that’s the direction that we want our country to

be headed in. And we are getting these things done. So it’s a great honor just to be a part.

Speaker 1 Of that fight, Congresswoman, I understand Virginia was turned by Governor Young, King, yourself and a few others because the people of Virginia were really angry what was going on with education and a few other things. I mean, it just went out of control.

Speaker 2 Yes, very much. So I sat in the State House for three years prior to moving to Congress and sitting in a minority in the State Senate. We had, you know, the Democrats had a super majority in Richmond, so they ran our state Senate and State House, and we had a Democrat and the governor’s mansion prior to Lend Young

and we really saw the damage that was done to Virginia for several years. So Virginians didn’t like that. We didn’t like that, you know, the overarching government mandates and increased taxes and keeping parents out of schools, and attacks on our law enforcement and having unsafe communities. And so we came out and we voted in twenty one for

a change of leadership. And that’s why we got a great new governor and we have a lieutenant governor wins some seers. We got a new Attorney general, and we flipped our Virginia House of delegates, so we really made a big statement. And then last year we took back one of our congressional seats. So for me, just you know,

to be a part of that movement has been a great honor. We have another election in Virginia this year. We have state elections again for our state Senate and our state House. So we need to continue that momentum and keep it going all the way till next year twenty four, which is going to be an even bigger election.

Can you say, again, honored to be in it?

Speaker 1 Can you say common sense has come back to Virginia Because when Governor Youngkin was on my show at w ABC a few days ago, uh, he was telling New Yorkers, where we’re headquartered, come on down and we have a more business friendly environment.

Speaker 2 We do, we do. Glenn Youngkin has worked hard to put pro business policies in place, and I think common sense is a good word to describe the movement here in Virginia. I think that we as Republicans are campaigning and producing legislation that that keeps in mind what Americans care about right now. I know in my campaign we

talked about what we call kitchen table issues. You know how much how much money that the American you know, public has in their pocketbooks? And and are there what are their kids doing in school? And are they are their families safe in their communities? You know, what does our national security look like? You know, how are we

protecting our borders? Our military? So these were everyday topics that people cared about. We stuck to those issues, and in the federal level, we called it our commitment to America, and we campaigned off of that, and we’re getting things done.

But I think common sense is a really good way to describe just the priorities that are coming out of Republican leadership.

Speaker 1 Well, thank you so much for coming on this Sunday morning. We have about the minute left. Anything else you want to tell the American people?

Speaker 2 Yeah, no, I just there’s work to be done. I I it’s a fight. The fight is real, right, The fight is real for our country, It’s real for Virginia and our commonwealth. It’s a privilege and an honor to be to be up there. I’m a Navy veteran who flew helicopters for ten years, married to a Navy pilot.

You know, I have kids who who serve, So it’s so important to me are issues of national security. We have to do better for our military, for our country, we can do better. I’m a nurse practitioner as well.

I have had the privilege of of participating in healthcare. So that’s another just area that’s a priority for me legislatively to make sure that we were providing you know, available, accessibly accessible healthcare and mental health care. So you know, I having a seat at that table means everything. That fine is real and I just appreciate you and people

who were taking an interest in the good work that we are doing. So thank you so much.

Speaker 1 Thank you, Congresswoman Jennifer Kiggins, thank you so much, and thank you for everything you’ve done for a country. And continue to speak out for common sense in America and we’ll catch up with you again real soon
