Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning, the first Sunday in the new year, and we have with us Steve Forbes went a good friend. He is a chairman of Forbes Media, and he ran for president. And well we’re here. It’s a new year.
Steve Forbes. Give us your evaluation. Where the heck are we going?
Well, we’re going is going to be determined in the next few weeks a couple of months. Huge opportunities are there. I hope the Republicans lead off with a big tax cut, renewing the tax cuts of twenty seventeen and also expanding them and reducing rates even more. I’d like to see a flat tax, Steve Moore and I wrote a column
on that in the Wall Street Journal the other day. Go for a fifteen percent simple flat tax. But if we get a big, nice tax cut, the regulation going seriously, and the Republicans don’t shoot themselves in the foot. This economy is ready and rare to go, and so it should be a good year. But it’s in our hands
not to blow it.
I agree, mister Forbes. I think the investors are looking for reduction in taxes, reduction of inflation, and interest rate swimming down after reduction of inflation.
I think that’s going to be key. A lot of promises have been made and a lot of opportunities are there, and the key is getting them delivered. We already see that Democrats are doing everything they can to block constructive things.
But also the House members have to really unite and do what the Democrats used to do. They unite and they can get some real things done. And there’s one leader, one captain, one quarterback, and you can’t have four hundred or two hundred and twenty members of Congress thinking they’re each of the Supreme Chief. They’re not.
I agree with you. Tell us what all the wars going on worldwide? Do you believe that we’re gonna it’s going to come to a settlement or what’s going to happen. First you’ve got the Iranian problem, then you have the Ukrainian problem, then you have the Chinese on the other side, with Taiwan and Philippines. Where do you think we’re going
with that?
I think that we must put aside the idea that these are going to be resolved in a matter of weeks. Vladimir Putin’s going to try to win at the negotiating table. What he couldn’t on the battlefield. So I think eventually they’ll come to a settlement. But Putin’s got to realize that Trump isn’t going to walk away from that conflict
and let Putin dominate Europe and the Israelis, I think are going to eventually in the next few months take action against Iran nuclear weapons, take out those laboratories. So it’s going to get hotter before it gets cooler. But the nice thing about strength is the world realizes that the appeasement days are.
Now workers that are needed in the United States because you have a lot of people saying, oh, we need more you know, immigration, you say, you know. Elon Musk has his own opinion. President Trump had his an opinion.
Tom Homeland has his opinion. Where do you think all that stands well?
I think what you’re going to see is that they will continue that H one B program on visas. For the moment, our schools aren’t turning out the students that we need scandalously, But I think you’re going to see a very will move on the border. I think that’s going to be shut and I think secretly Mexico is
going to be pleased because the cartels have immense power, and Mexico does not want to become a narco state. So behind the scenes, I think some real progress will be made.
So when you look forward in the big picture, you feel that our country is going to go in the right direction. We’re going to straighten out the various skirmacies going on and around the world. We’re going to open up the Suez Canal, We’re going to open up the Red Sea. We’re going to settle up with the Putin
and the Ukraine. We’re going to straighten out the I guess see the drill, baby drill, bring down the price of oil, which will bring down the price of food, bring down inflation, and hopefully it brings down interest rates at that point. So I have confidence that we’re going to be going in the right direction.
We will be, but I have to I think we should realize these things will take time. They’re not going to be done with a snap of the fingers overnight. But the key is persistence, and what Trump showed in his first term in terms of deregulation, He’s willing to stick with it even if there’s not a daily headline.
And the nitty gritty stuff I think will get done and One other thing to watch out for is the feder Reserve. People are going to say, oh, you’re attacking the independence of the FED. No, I think there’s going to be a real examination of the operations of the FED, especially their crazy idea that prosperity causes inflation. No, printing
too much money, reducing the value the dollar causes inflation. So on the regulatory front, that’ll be a cute equivalent of a huge tax cut starting to curb those regulations, especially on electronic vehicles and energy, which you mentioned. So I think they’ll be progress, and I think they’ll be enough progress so that we should be in a decent
position going in the twenty twenty six elections where we face a real challenge. We see it already in the House hardly any majority, and the Senate next year, John, we’ve got twenty Republican seats versus thirteen Democrat seats, so we better get some big stuff done. But it’s going to take persistence, and I think Trump knows this is
his one chance to do it.
Well. Steve Forbes, let’s pray for America, and I believe we’re going to be going in the right direction. And thank you for always speaking out for the American people, and God bless you, and have a happy new year in God bless America.
And a happy new year to you, John, and keep up the great work fighting every day on the airwaves. That’s we got to do it. God bless
