Speaker 1 Sunday morning with us as Governor David Patterson and what’s going on in the Democratic Party. But first of all, Governor, I must give you condolences. I understand you lost your mom this week, and losing a mom is never easy.

My condolences.

Speaker 2 Well, thank you, Baker John. We lost mom on Tuesday night. And you know, of all of us, I think that I was the biggest beneficiary of her care because she literally forced me into the public school system when they wanted to send me to some place where I think there were warehousing kids who were disabled at that particular time.

And she was steadfast and tough, not only with me and my brother, but she really let the people in the school know about that that she wasn’t going to have her son deprived of a good education.

Speaker 1 And was she proud of you when you grew up to be governor.

Speaker 2 She was just it was like, uh, you know, probably how Thomas Edison felt when they put that light on and Bowles pritty. She was just so happy that that had happened. And and and you know, her passing gives me a chance to tell people about you know, how I got where I got It was really mostly her,

my father was totally supportive, but she really went out of her way to make sure that I had every opportunity.

Speaker 1 And that’s what mothers do, and that’s what my mother did. She, you know, when I was ready to be lazy and watched television after graduated high school, she threw me off the couch and and got me a job terrific governor.

So many things are happening in a Democratic party. I’m not sure anybody really knows what’s going on, But why don’t you speculate and give us your ideas of what do you think is going on?

Speaker 2 Well, I think most Democrats like Joe Biden. They like the work he’s done over the years, and he’s been at conservative at times, like passing the nineteen ninety four civil Crime Bill. But there is a major change in his personality and his decorum since he was elected in twenty twenty. And you know, this happens to everybody, but

it seems to be affecting him to the point that people weren’t sure that he’s really calling the shots or running the government. The belief is that the staff is propping him up when they think he can do it.

But for instance, last Thursday, he spoke at the NAACP in Las Vegas, and he stopped three times during the speech and didn’t say anything for like ten to fifteen seconds, which you know, it’s not a kind of look that the country wants in our president. Now. I guess the only way that another candidate could appear is if he

voluntarily removes himself as the candidate for president. Then you have to find who’s going to be the vice president. I think it would be hard for the party to go away from Kamala Harris, even though she’s had her dust ups with a number of Democrats, even had them with Biden. So at that point, it would be another

candidate against President Trump, who would at that point be considered a clear favorite, and not a lot of time to really waise that campaign well understood.

Speaker 1 I mean, Joe. President Biden has been heard to say that no way that it should be Kaal Harris, and maybe you should go to an open convention. Maybe they should have a primary among people and and just let the people decide instead of a certain individual’s society.

Speaker 2 Yeah, they’ve got a little bit of a bench if they want to go past Kamala Harris. One of them came out with us one morning, Governor Brashier from Kentucky.

Speaker 1 Yes, we had coffee with him, Yeah, on a Saturday afternoon. I don’t believe it was yep.

Speaker 2 And then there’s Governor Shapiro, Governor Wes Moore of Maryland. There’s some people who could probably get in there. And you know, sometimes you worry, you worry, you worry about who would be in charge. But the times make the person more than the person makes the times, you know.

So uh, you know, I I went to work one morning and by toltry that afternoon, I realized I was going to be governor in a couple of hours. And you know, the New York they didn’t fall into the ocean while I was serving. So this is actually very exciting.

And fortunately our government and the way we make rules and the way we follow them, even in our political parties, shows us the way. And you know, so this isn’t a terrible situation. But if you’re a Democrat, you really were hoping that Biden would be like he was in twenty twenty and they would be able to be former

President Trump for a second time.

Speaker 1 So bottom line, Governor is let’s wait and see what happened.

Speaker 2 Is that what you’re saying, yeah, I mean, I think there’s a lot more pressure being exerted than the public knows. But what’s kind of saving Biden are these at least three people have told me when he’s going to step down, and all those dates have passed and he hasn’t stepped down yet, So the gossip gets in the way as well.

Speaker 1 I don’t think he’s going so fast.

Speaker 2 Yeah. In the end, I think the same.

Speaker 1 Governor Pattison. Look forward to seeing you soon and I again my condolences. I mean, there’s nothing easy about losing a mom, and be strong and we’ll talk again real soon.

Speaker 2 Thanks John. Take care,
