Speaker 1 Well, we have a new sheriff, we have a new president, and reactions from around the world, a lot of reactions from around the world. Witness this morning is Gordon Chang, and Gordon is an expert in the Far East to China, Vietnam, Korea and all those nations, and his Twitter to be in touch with him. Twenty four to seven packed Gordon

g Chang. Gordon tell us give us the reactions from the Far East.

Speaker 2 Well, we can maybe start with the reactions at Davos, because President Trump and now spoke to the gathering by video and he asserted all that he’s been talking about about America using oil and gas, about America and posing tariffs.

And people in the Far East don’t like that message, of course, because they’ve had open access to the US market, whereas we have had limited access to their markets. And that’s especially true China. Now, China addressed Davos a few days before talked about how protectionism is bad. But the problem is that the Chinese are among the most protectionists

on Earth. Matter of fact, if you look at countries around the world, only the North Koreans are more protectionists. So I’m not sure how the people in Davos reacted to the Chinese messages as time. But they’re certainly not liking Trump. But that’s okay because Trump is saying things that need to be said.

Speaker 1 John absolutely correct, and I think they realize that the world finally has a true leader that he gets up and says, this is the way it’s going to be, guys, because the President of the United States is really a world leader.

Speaker 2 What say you absolutely and what you have with Trump is saying things that everybody around the world says privately but doesn’t want to say publicly because it’s not full of a correct But when Trump talks about sovereignty, when he talks about all of these issues, I think that leaders around the world and people in their own countries agree,

And that’s why Trump has been so popular with people around the world, and that’s why we’re seeing what some people call a populist revolution. It’s occurring in Europe, certainly occurred in the United States because Trump is a leader, He’s giving voice to what people think, and he’s actually able to change outcomes because he’s willing to use American

power to achieve objectives and Biden, for many cases wasn’t willing to do that.

Speaker 1 Understood. Now, what what goes on in the Far East. I mean, he had several discussions with China already.

Speaker 2 You tell us, well, Trump would like to have a grand bargain with China, and he’s actually indicated that he’d like to go to China Beijing in his first hundred days. That came from some officials. What we’re seeing is that Trump, who thinks that he can actually change outcomes with an agreement.

I’m not so sure that he can. He’s already had one deal with the Chinese, the Phase one Trade Agreement of January twenty twenty, that didn’t work out well for the United States. But Trump, I think, is more prepared to use American power now than he was then. And so you know, anything can happen. But clearly right now

the Chinese are apprehensive about what Trump will.

Speaker 1 Do understood, and now you know he plans to visit Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia believes in the United States again, and Saudi Arabia wants to make big, big investments. And in other words, are I think coming back to believing in Trump is going to be the real leader.

Speaker 2 Yes, especially in the Gulf States, which includes of course Saudi Arabia. They were rooting for Trump to win because Biden had a pro Iran policy that our traditional friends in the Middle East did not like. Trump commend relations with Saudi Arabia. Remember, Biden made them a pariah because of the gruesome killing of Jamal Kashoki in twenty eighteen

at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. But Trump they want him to be there, and I think this is going to be good. We’re going to see our friends like Bob Rain and others utimly support the US where they weren’t so willing to do that under Biden because they were afraid what Biden might do. So this is going

to be a new era for the United States. In many places around the world, but especially in the Gulf States in the Middle East.

Speaker 1 Understood what else would you like to tell you? Right from people on a Sunday morning. I mean, the president has been president for five days now six days, and it seems like he’s moved a mountain already.

Speaker 2 Well, he’s done a mountain already because even before he took the oath of office, leaders around the world were changing the way they interacted with the US because they knew that Trump was not going to put up with what they were able to do during the Biden era, and that’s a good thing for the United States right now.

The one thing I’m looking at is the problems in the Chinese economy which are getting worse, and that could force Si Juanping to do something that would take us by surprise. So we’ve got to be very careful John about what’s happening happening internally in China.

Speaker 1 Is China going to be more careful or less aggressive of like they’ve been under in the last year or so under President Biden.

Speaker 2 You know, I wish I knew. I think there’s things pushing cgmping in both directions. To push cgmping in the right direction is Trump because he knows he can’t take Trump on. But the problem I’m worried about is that internally, there are things that are occurring inside the Chinese political system, inside the economy, inside society that make cjmping decide he’s

got a closing window of opportunity and that if he doesn’t move against us now, he may never be able to. So we got to worry about that as well.

Speaker 1 Well. Thank you very much, Gordon Chang and your Twitter at Gordon G. Chang. Let’s go day by day because this is a day by day. President Trump makes us, gives us a lot of surprises every day. But I feel he’s a great leader and I feel he’s doing the right thing.

Speaker 2 Yes, I agree, John, And thank you so much.

Speaker 1 Thank you, Gordon G. Chank, Thank you
