Speaker 1 What is today is Mike Safferate Town and he’s running for the United States Senate of New York State. And Mike, you’ve been going around the state for now a few weeks, a few months. Give us an update. What have you seen?

What do you want to accomplish if you’re elected to the US Senate.

Speaker 2 Well, John, it’s been great. We’re meeting with the constituents out here. We’re hitting the sixty two counties. Such a big state and such a great state. We’re listening to people and trying to understand what their issues are and what their problems are. You know, I love to talk, and I love to talk to everybody, but it’s so

important to listen and find out what their issues are. So different from upstate, up in the North Country to Albany, Central New York, and then downstate here in the city. It’s just great to hear everybody. We visited different locations, Tioga County, Broome County, Cortland County, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and I was with the President a few weeks ago in

the Bronx. That was such a great night with such great participation by so many people.

Speaker 1 Understand and what do you think are their biggest problems.

Speaker 2 Well, you know, I think the biggest issues John, of course a crime and illegal immigration. Okay, of course, course of living is a big deal. But what we’re dealing with now is so much of this anti semitism, and everybody is so concerned about the hatred that’s going on.

And you know, we’ve spoken before about Listen, we have the issues on our side, but these are American issues, not just republicating conservative issues. But we need to start to come together as as a country and work together to have peace and get things accomplished. It’s basic common sense stuff, John, And we don’t see that anymore out here, understood.

Speaker 1 The migrant situation. Is it as bad upstate as it is Downstay.

Speaker 2 Well, not as bad. But you know what, we don’t even talk about the northern border, okay. And the increase in the northern border is over two hundred and fifty percent of illegal immigrants coming in in the last year.

You know, I met a young lady from Clinton County whose parents grew up in Brooklyn, and she said her parents moved to Clinton County so they could see the stars at night, and all they see now are helicopter lights chasing the illegal immigrants coming in through the border.

I don’t think people realize what a huge border we have with Canada up north to the New York border.

Speaker 1 Understood the economy paying more for gasoline, paying more interest rates, if you want to buy a house, paying more for food. Have you heard Middle America, Poor America complain to you as you’re going around.

Speaker 2 You know, when I grew up, John, you could buy a half dozen eggs. I go into stores now in different places in Endicott, New York, and I heard someone say it, I just buy two eggs. I can’t afford to buy more than two eggs. Can I just purchase two eggs? These are things I haven’t seen or heard

in years. I was in Putnam County and someone said, hey, gas is crazy, three ninety nine a gallon. I wanted to say, maybe I should drive up from Long Island or New York City just to get gas in Putnam County.

I paid five twenty seven cents someplace on Long Island the other day for gas. It’s absurd, It’s ridiculous. People have to work two three jobs to try to make ends meet. And I’m listening to people say on from the from the Biden administration that things are better, things are going good. Well, they’re not better. They’re not going

good when people have to work two or three jobs. You know, John, we all work really hard so that our kids could have a better life and that they could own a home and be able to maintain that home.

But in the rust belt up up in you know, by Buffalo and Erie County and things, people can get jobs, but they’re worried that they’re going to keep those jobs and they’re going to be able to be promoted from those jobs. We are losing so much industry, John, people are fleeing New York. We’re not doing anything here to

keep New York viable, and we need to do something. We need to step up. New York has such a great platform, such great cities and great people. We need to work hard to get this New York back to where people can live here and be happy and earn a good living and be able to pay for their families.

Speaker 1 Understood too well, But you have thirty seconds left. What else would you want to tell all New Yorkers? Why do you want to be the US Senator?

Speaker 2 Well, you know, John, I was a detective for twenty years in New York, city and then owned the pre small business that bubbled into a global company. And it’s time to give back. It’s time to get out there and do better for our people. I love my city, New York. I grew up in the city. I live

on one island. I love this state. I love this country. As I travel the state, people say to me, you know who are you running against? And I say, as an old copy, if you put her in a lineup, can you even pick out Kirsten Jilbrand. People laugh and say I can’t. I don’t even know who she is.

We haven’t even seen her. She’s been missing in action for the last fifteen years, and especially after she ran for president in twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 Mike’s affracon good luck and keep us informed of what’s going on around the state, and we’ll catch up again with you real soon.

Speaker 2 Thanks John, I appreciate you having me
