Speaker 1 What is today is Ed Cox, the New York state chairman of the GOP, and he’s got some new revelations. Something’s happen in court cases this week that a very interesting and very into some people. It’s very problematic. Uh, and maybe to all people, Ed Cox, give us an update.

Speaker 2 Oh, what’s happening is that instead of the people choosing their representatives the Democratic Party you want to representeds here in New York, in state government and in federal government, to choose their people, they draw the lines they want the way they wanted for them.

Speaker 1 Uh.

Speaker 2 That is all the lines for congressional district, draw the lines for the state legislature and the Instead of the people deciding, it’s the representatives of deciding who they’re going to represent. And in doing that they can limit it limit the number of Republicans who would be in and the House of Representatives. They could by stuffing us all

in the four districts. They could in essence, women’s the four seats out of twenty six. On the other hand, if you have competitive seats as were drawn for last November’s election, and we really compete at hard and we won most of those competitive seats and staid we have eleven.

Republicans have eleven seats in the House of Representatives, and that really was very important deciding that the Republicans would control Congress with their Now this is the.

Speaker 1 Big case that was decided last year, and they drew the seats. Now what people some people are confused about ed coxes the fact that the states draw them for federal elections too.

Speaker 2 Absolutely, the stakes are very high for Congress. The Democrats had decided that New York is their target. They’re going to buy by hooker crook. They’re going to win back seats here in the House of Representatives and try and limit us maybe two instead of eleven seats to four or five seats. And they do that first of all

by litigation, and they just won. We won at the trial court level. They just won at the Pelt Division to reverse the decision of last year. They’re reversing it completely so that they can draw the lines rather than having a special master, someone completely neutral draw the line.

So there are competitive seats.

Speaker 1 So if it doesn’t go right, the eleven seats that the GOP won in New York State will be in danger next in twenty twenty four, I.

Speaker 2 Guess exactly, and one. They want to redraw the and to do that they have actually corrupted our highest court here. They actually pushed out the chief judge who wrote our decision last year, and they forced on Governor Hokel their choice, which is a complete violation of separation of powers. But they said, we’re not going to prove anyone if it’s

not this person, and that person is now the chief judge rather than the person who wrote or democratically appointed a chief judge who was appointed by Andrew Cuomo wrote an opinion that said, yes, we’re going to have four district fair districts here that are drawn by a special Master.

And that’s what happened last year. This year they have the Senate has forced on the on the governor their choice of chief judge, and they’re looking for this case to come up. And that’s where that’s.

Speaker 1 Where the state So everybody out there understands, that’s where the state Senator out of Long Island that even though he was qualified, the State Senate felt that.

Speaker 2 The governor, the governor had an extraordinary qualified Hispanic judge presiding Justice of the second Department, huge department, one of the largest departments in the United States, a very good judge and rejected by the Democrats and the Senate, just to show the governor, no matter how good your selection is, we’re not going to take it. We want this individual

who dissented from our case last year, we want him to be the chief judge so we can reverse the case that the Republicans won last year. It’s a corruption of their sharing.

Speaker 1 Understood, I think that way the way you described it now, the under the people, the people understand it. They got rid even though they originally picked a Hispanic judge. They got rid of the Hispanic judge, so they can pick a judge that would guarantee them, that would vote their way.

Speaker 2 That’s what they believe. That’s what they believed.

Speaker 1 Well, let’s see that. Now. Let me ask you a silly question. Can a federal case be brought up even though it’s a state issue that they intentionally did that that way?

Speaker 2 No. Several years ago, the Supreme Court United States decided that they’re going to stay out of jerry mandering cases. These cases are and they’re going to leave them up to the states, to the state legislature, and to the state courts. So our only appeal is to the highest court here where the Chief Judge was selected by the

Democrats in the Senate. Now having said that that judge is permanent, they can’t do anything to them. He is I may disagree with him a lot of policy things, but he is a professional and we will see how he votes. In the way, and another new judge a place of it.

Speaker 1 You hope that the judge will follow the law and do the right.

Speaker 2 Thing exactly and starry decisives the case that was deciding. Even though I just send it, I will under because it was the President. We’re going to follow it and we will stick with the with the fair districts that we have. New York has more districts competitive districts than any other major state because they were drawn by a

special master. It makes no sense to change it.

Speaker 1 Sounds like a major, major issue. Thank you ed Cox for explaining it to the people so they can understand it and we’ll catch up again real soon.

Speaker 2 Thank you John for giving me that opportunity.
