Speaker 1 Sunday morning, Labor Day weekend. With us today is Dennis Mazuriski. And he’s a good friend of my other friend, J.T. Fox. And he’s an entrepreneur and he’s a thinker. Dennis, tell us your thoughts on business in the future.

Speaker 2 Yeah, John, thanks so much for having me, a big fan. As I just moved my son into college just two days ago, and a lot of kids are moving into colleges right now, it really got me thinking as I was walking through New York City this week that my son as a sophomore chose the business school, really just

didn’t know what degree he should be choosing. And I think a lot of people are in the same boat. So that got me thinking of what is the world of work actually going to look like when he graduates?

And for decades, we told our kids, you know, that simple formula to go to.

Speaker 3 College, get a degree, get a good job.

Speaker 2 But I’m not sure that formula is nearly as simple anymore. AI is changing completely the white collar work and it’s changing it incredibly fast. So I came up with five of the greatest careers in New York right now. And also the list of five careers that everybody should be watching for in the future. And I would love to

go through that with you, John.

Speaker 1 Understood. So tell us the five careers that we should forget about, do not allow your kids to go into it, and give us the five careers of the future. Give it to us real fast.

Speaker 2 Yeah, so the top five careers that I don’t think you should forget about, I think there are still great career choices. Number five on my list is registered nurses. They make $ 150, 000 a year depending on experience and extremely high in demand, 10,000 jobs opening every single year. Number four is a commercial and industrial electrician. In New York City,

some union electrical compensation packages are $ 140, 000, $ 150, 000 an hour.

Speaker 3 This is just an unbelievable opportunity.

Speaker 2 And with AI infrastructure coming in, with data centers, everybody’s going to need electrical commercial industrial electricians. And that goes for plumbers and HVAC technicians as well. It’s a great career choice that still exists to this day. Number three on my list is nurse practitioners. They make $ 150, 000 a year with the baby boomers retiring.

Speaker 3 We’re definitely going to need more nurse practitioners, a really great job.

Speaker 2 And number two is the elevator mechanic. John, I think one that’s going to be actually surprising for your listeners in New York. An experienced elevator mechanic can earn $ 80 an hour in wages plus retirement, health, and benefits. That’s $ 130 an hour.

Speaker 3 What’s cool about this.

Speaker 2 Position is instead of going to a four-year school, kids can start with a paid apprenticeship path. And in New York City, we’re certainly not running.

Speaker 3 Out of elevators. That’s for sure.

Speaker 2 And number one on my list of current jobs that are still great are the CRNA nurses. Those are the highest paid career choices right now in New York. They pay $ 250, 000.

Speaker 3 To $ 350, 000 a year and considerably more.

Speaker 2 Those are the nurses that administer anesthesia alongside the surgical team.

Speaker 3 But they don’t have to be the physician.

Speaker 2 So I believe those five career choices are still going to be relevant, anything that happens is still a great career choices. So I can go into those two, which are.

Speaker 3 The ones who.

Speaker 1 Those are the good ones in the future. What. Well, in other words, if your kids in the future, if they don’t become nuclear scientists and they want a regular good job, those are the ones they should look at. Now, tell me about the ones that are going away besides changing changing horseshoes on on horses.

Speaker 2 I mean, I think AI is really taking over a lot of these positions. And unfortunately, AI is going to eliminate a lot of the jobs, a lot of the repetitive jobs. But it also provides enormous opportunity for new jobs that are going to be available in the future. Like, for example, data center technicians. Everybody talks about AI intelligence,

but it all lives in the cloud. And it’s massive buildings filled with servers and network equipment, cooling systems, and That whole infrastructure needs somebody to continue to update and design. Also, interesting job that I found that is not taking over completely by AI is healthcare reimbursement specialist. Every single year that I see healthcare is getting larger and population is

getting older, the system of insurance billing and coding is completely complicated and it requires a very knowledgeable skillset. It’s an interesting job that pays actually really well and will continue in the future. I’m also very excited about AI consultant as a position. I think if you’re combining with the tech knowledge and the business knowledge, I really think

that’s a career choice for a lot of folks. This one is important because it doesn’t necessarily have to be a computer programmer. Businesses are asking for completely.

Speaker 3 Different questions now. How do we actually use AI in our business?

Speaker 2 How do we use it in sales and marketing and accounting?

Speaker 3 We all know AI is great. But how do we actually implement it?

Speaker 2 And I do believe that is going to be one of the top of jobs available in the future for decades to come.

Speaker 1 Yes, it is. Well, thank you for coming on this weekend and have a great weekend. And let’s catch up again real soon.

Speaker 3 That sounds great, John. Thank you so much. Thanks for having me. Bye bye.
