Speaker 1 What is today is Governor McGreevy and he is running for become the mayor of Jersey City. And Governor McGreevy. Uh, do I have to call you mayor after this?

Speaker 2 John? That would be the nicest thing that anybody ever called me. Jim? Is this perfect? But thank you?

Speaker 1 Jim. Give us a update. What’s going on with the mayor’s race in New Jersey and your race, and what’s going on with all the races. There’s so much turmoil going on in New Jersey. Uh, and just give us an update overall?

Speaker 2 Sure, I think John for Jersey City, you know, God Willing. What I’m interested in doing is providing a sort of a traditional nuts and bolts, hands on mayoralty, and that is to be accountable to people, to be responsive, and to make sure that you know when people have needs, whether it’s clean streets or whether it’s you know, quality

schools and their kids are getting a good education, or controlled developments and even you know, working class affordable development. I want to be the guy who’s not particularly you know, sexy or fancy, but hands on and basic and delivers a product. The guy who makes sure that the streets are well striped and paved, that the traffic lights, that

speeding is enforced, that that municipal government works. And you know the great thing, you know, John, for me is Jersey City, where you know, my grandparents and my parents. It’s I remember when I, you know, we first started re entry. It’s like all these other basic services that we were providing for these people, but it’s like making

sure that they work in tandem. Whether it’s addiction treatment, whether it’s mental health, whether it’s housing, whether it’s job training. So it’s not a necessarily fancy, but it’s important stuff and rolling up your sleeves, digging into it and making sure that it works, and the same way that God willing re entry works. You know, I want to do

that and then also sort of bring to bear, you know, the state of New Jersey, bring to bear the federal government. You know, you have the Infrastructure Investment Act that was passed on a bipartisan basis in Congress. Well, a lot of that money, in terms of the Hudson Tunnels, a lot of that infrastructure is coming through Jersey City. So

you want to make sure that Jersey cities, you know, that their interests are protected, but that hopefully you put young men and women to work. You give them a career, particularly on the tunnel, which is going to be a fifteen year project. So you want to leverage, if you will, those federal and state relationships so that you build goods

olive bones in the city stay wide. I think John, you know, you know, people are looking obviously at the congressional races, they’re looking at the national race and people, you know, in twenty twenty five, you’ve also got the googlementorial race Governor Murphy is He’s served as two terms.

So so I think you’ve got a lot of dynamism. And then you also have in terms of this year twenty twenty four, in addition to the presidential race, you’ll have the US Senate race. In addition to the congressional races.

Speaker 1 So are all those people running against Robert Menendez? When is that primary?

Speaker 2 That great question? That primary is going to be this year, this June twenty twenty four, And it looks like, you know, the good Congressman rob will be running against the mayor of Hoboc and Ravi Bala, and you know the congressman has his own track record, and so that race will occur twenty four as well, will the US Senate race

occur on a statewide basis, And now.

Speaker 1 I understand the Governor Murphy’s wife is running against Menendez in the primary, as well as the Southern gentleman.

Speaker 2 Well, it’s just so that on you know that the first Lady Tammy Murphy will be running for the US Senate. As far as I know, I think as of the present day, John Senator Menendez, the father, has not announced his intention to seek election again. So you know, as of this point, I mean, I think he has to

He would probably have to announce or move forward to announcing his intentions in the in the first and second quarter of this year. But as of today, you know, on the cusp of February Cener, Menendez has not stated that he’s going to run again. So if he doesn’t run, it’ll be a race between First Lady Tammy Murphy, who

has her own track record, and Congressman Kim from from South Jersey. And that’s if Senator Menendez does not get into the primary and you.

Speaker 1 Do not have a primary. Is that correct?

Speaker 2 Well, no, No, the Jersey City election is nonpartisan, and so it’s it’s you know, Democrats, independence, Republicans. It’s a nonpartisan election and you have to break fifty percent and if you don’t break fifty percent, un then you go into a runoff. And so like I’m out there going to you know, every chicken dinner, every church dinner, every VFW,

every flag raising, all throughout the community, you know, showing people being accessible. You know, as my father would say, listening. That’s why God gave us two ears and one mouth. So we listened twice as hard as we speak. But you know, just just being around and just being in different neighborhoods and just being part of the of the community.

And I think it’s important John. People have got to see you, They’ve got to be able to see you, to touch you, to understand that you’re, you know, a regular guy and that you’re going to do a good job and you’re gonna work hard. I mean, like like you do every days. It’s about hard work and it’s

about you know, rolling up your sleeves and getting it done and being accountable. My dad, who was, as you know, was a Marine Corps d I used to say, plan your work, you know, yeah, plan your work and work your plan so that hopefully, you know, when I can talk to people about some of the things we’re going

to do in the city. Then you have the opportunity to make it a reality.

Speaker 1 Governor McGreevey, thank you so much, guys, as everybody knows in both states and walled states, and I’m supporting you and you’ve been a good friend for many years. God bless you. God bless them.

Speaker 2 And thank you John, and thank you for everything you do for the community and for so many I can go on and I embarrassing you by an event.

Speaker 1 Thanks my friend, Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 All right, God bless God bless you. Will
