Speaker 1 What is today is Governor Chris Christy, You was the governor of the great State of New Jersey for eight years, and we have them on today on a Sunday morning, to find out what’s going on in the GOP. Governor Christy, what the heck is going on?

Speaker 2 John? Look, it’s it’s a divided GOP in a number of different ways, right. I think the first part is the one. Let’s talk about what unifies us. What unifies us is that we know that the stuff that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have done to this country over the last two and a half years has to stop.

And it’s caused this wild inflation, that the banking crisis we’re seeing that’s going on right now. We’re less respected around the world. The educational system in our country is falling apart with this woke nonsense. So that stuff has got to be stopped, and Republicans know that we need to do that. What’s dividing us is how the best

way to do it, And that’s the fight we’re gonna have in twenty twenty four and one that we’re gonna have to have a full family discussion over inside the party because we can’t afford to have Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for another four years.

Speaker 1 Understood. Now you have made announcements that you are considering it. Have you been considered it in the way yet.

Speaker 2 I have not made a final decision yet, John, on what I’m gonna do. But I’m very concerned that what we’re heading towards is a Trump Biden rematch, and a Trump Biden rematch is banned for the Republican Party. Donald Trump’s done nothing but lose since he won the election in twenty sixteen. We lost the House in twenty eighteen,

the Senate and the White House in twenty twenty. We underperformed in twenty twenty two and lost more governorships and another Senate seat. Donald Trump cannot win, and he’s on a vanity exercise to try to make himself feel better.

It’s not going to make the country any better. That’s why I’m considering it, because I’m concerned that the people that are in the race so far are unwilling to take him on directly. And the only way to beat the front runner is to take the front runner on directly.

Speaker 1 And I understand Governor Youngkin has bowed out in the last couple of weeks and Secretary of Pompeo has bowed out in the race. Right now, how do you feel about Governor DeSantis? I mean I made a few comments about it and made nationwide coverage or international coverage. How do you feel about Governor DeSantis?

Speaker 2 Well, look, I’m very concerned, John, and I agree with much of what you’ve said publicly. Look, his fighting aint Disney was ill advised, poorly executed, and not conservative. You know, I always believe that conservatives thought it was wrong to use the power and the levers of government to try to change the way people think, and took to punish

people for taking a position on a public issue. Yes, that’s exactly what Governor said did with Disney. It’s wrong. And then he got out maneuvered by Bob Iger on top of it, so that now the power he thought he was getting he’s given away. And instead of just bowing out gracefully for that and to saying he made

a mistake, he’s now doubling down and he’s going to bring lawsuits and all the rest of it. And it’s just I’m very turned He doesn’t have the temperament and the judgment to be president. Of the United States.

Speaker 1 Well, my basic thing was that he’s doing a lot of good things. People feel good about Florida. I mean, you know what’s going on in New York, Governor. Four hundred and eighty four thousand New Yorkers have moved. Yes, they don’t want to be in New York. And yet it I’ll tell you what I’ve noticed too, Governor, that

New York is very, very busy Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday comes Friday till Monday night. Nobody’s here.

Speaker 2 Nope. Look, people are scared at John, of what’s going on in New York. The crazy crime folks like Alvin Bragga Manhattan and other DA’s around the city are not doing their jobs. They’re hamstringing the police, and it’s turned into mayhem in New York City. And you know that combines with the fact that, you know, people are tired

of the crazy taxes and what it costs to live in New York City. And look, the same thing’s happening in New Jersey. John. You know, my successor, Phil Murphy has increased spending nineteen billion dollars in five years. And we all know that when the federal money stops that those chickens are coming home to roost, and people are

leaving New Jersey at a very similar rate to what they’re leaving New York. People.

Speaker 1 The exodus that high, is the exodust that high in New Jersey.

Speaker 2 It’s very close, John, It’s less than New York, but it’s very close. Because if we have the highest corporate tax rate in America on the state level, we have in the top three of personal income tax rates. We have the highest property taxes in America. You know, so people in New Jersey are suffering as well. And what’s

going on here and in New York, in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, people are all going to be leaving those places because not only is it too expensive, but even bigger part, John, they don’t feel safe anymore. And I don’t understand as a former prosecutor why prosecutors don’t want to do their jobs. Violent criminals belong in jail. They’ve

earned the spot, and we need to put them there and keep them there.

Speaker 1 Now, there’s a big controversy going on in New York the last week or so. A marine, you know, in a marie. Marines were trained, they were trained to do their job and American citizens on the train. There was this uh person, this homeless guy whodolm. I don’t know what he was, but he had forty six prior arrests.

Was was abusing the people on the subway, and the marine jumped and got involved in it, and uh you put him in a headlock, and and and the guy ended up dying. And now they want to accuse the marine of murder. And the Governor hole says they’re gonna accuse they should be accused of murder. And I don’t

understand that. That’s a very, very big controversy. What say you or not? Have you learned more about it?

Speaker 2 I haven’t learned more about it. I’ve only, you know, learned what you have just said from reading about it. Let me tell you this is the circumstance of government that that that this kind of governance has created in New York. Whether it’s you know, Da Bragg, Governor Holk, whoever you want to talk about, who’s making these decisions,

they have created set up a system in the city where people no longer feel safe. And I’m sure that this marine was trying to protect people. That’s what he was trained to do. We’ll see what all the facts turned out to be. But I’ll tell you this, it is whoe. We should not live in a city where

any citizen, marine or otherwise on a subway feels like they have to intervene because law enforcement won’t do what they need to do to keep our subway safe, for our streets safe.

Speaker 1 Understood. So we got about a minute of so left a minute and a half. Let’s go back to the presidential election. We know President Trump is running, and he wants to run, and we know that the one of the problems he has is he’s very strong in the Republican Party, but not so strong in getting the independent voting.

In these days, you need the independent vote to be to get to fifty.

Speaker 2 Now, there’s no doubt about that, Johnson tell us.

Speaker 1 And you’re considering running and Nicky Haley. I felt that Nicky Haley’s running for vice president my particular opinion. And you know, she’s a woman, she’s knowledgeable, she might make a good vice president. Anybody else oka other than you or that you think that might be credible.

Speaker 2 Look, I mean, you know, as you mentioned, a lot of the people who I thought might be good candidates, like Senacretary POPEO have stepped aside. I know the Governor Sanunu in New Hampshire’s thinking about it as well. He’s an excellent governor in New Hampshire and it’s done a good job. I don’t know what Chris is going to

decide to do, but I think we pretty much got the field we’re going to get. And that’s why I’m considering getting into it, John, because none of these people will take on Trump directly, and none of them have approved record of winning independence. You remember in New Jersey when I was governor, we got reelected with sixty one

of the vote in one of the blue est states in America. We won the Hispanic vote, we won the female vote, we won the independent vote with seventy percent of independence. You need to know how to win, and because otherwise we’re gonna wind up with Joe Biden, who in my view is the most incompetent president of my lifetime,

and here he is seeking re election and we can have that incompetence for another four years. It will be difficult for our country to recover from that.

Speaker 1 Is there anybody in the Democratic Party real fast? Is there anybody in the bullpen? I mean Pamela Harris, nobody feels that she’s qualified. No, Look, the American people are running away from California.

Speaker 2 Look, there are plenty of people in the bullpen. They’re in the Democratic Party. None that i’d vote for John, But people like Governor k Newsom of California Governor Pritzker of Illinois are both people who’ve talked about wanting to run.

But they’re all waiting around to see what Joe Biden’s going to do. But I don’t think any of those people would be good for America.

Speaker 1 Well, thank you for coming on, Governor Christy, and let’s we’ll fight for America because we want on America and that we want to go back to common sense. And I agree with you one hundred and ten percent.

Speaker 2 Sean, thank you very much for having me on. I love listening to your program on Sunday morning.
