Speaker 1 Sunday Morning with us is Maud Moran and she is running for District Attorney of Manhattan, New York City. Uh and Maud, Uh, there’s been so many problems in New York with crime and people are complaining so much. Tell us, tell our listener is who you are and what what you’re what you’re going to fight for?

Speaker 2 Absolutely well, First of all, thanks for having me on. I am a Manhattan night. I was born here in Manhattan, and my four children have been born here. And uh, my husband and I, like New Yorkers all over this city, want a safe city for our kids. We want to say city for everybody.

Speaker 1 Uh.

Speaker 2 You know, out of law school, I worked at the Legal Aid Society and I worked as a defense lawyer. I worked in the very office where you know, in the very building one hundred Center Street where Alvin Bragg is right now. But right now the people that need a good defense or the people of Manhattan who want

to be able to get on the subway safely, go to work safely, walk into a drug store, and have everybody pay for the stuff that they’re taking out of the drug store, not just the people who work hard and spend their money. So we all need safety in this city. And we all know that.

Speaker 1 Half the drug stores in Manhattan have closed up. And you know I work for mister Morganstor because of the police athletic Lee for forty years from nineteen to eighty four on. And I mean, I think mister Morgan door is turning over in his grave right now with all the crime going on in our city. Why is it happening?

Speaker 2 It’s a choice. Alvin Bragg made the choice to not prosecute crimes even though he’s the prosecutor. He made that very clear when he was running. It shouldn’t have been a surprise for people. But you know, people sometimes don’t read the fronge print. Now we all know that he was Alvin Bragg was true to his word. He really

is focused on all of the crimes that he does not want to prosecute that you know, he could be. He could be a defense lawyer. He doesn’t need to be a prosecutor. A prosecutor has to be somebody who’s willing to prosecute crime. And you know, I worked in as a defense lawyer for many years when when District

Attorney Morganshaw was in office. We know how to have a functioning criminal justice system. We know how to make sure that the police can arrest for crimes like fair evasion, like petit larceny, and the things that we see that are lower level offenses, because it has an impact on the higher level offenses. It creates a system of lawlessness

where we see the general standards of our city and the deteriorating, and we know how to stop it. We have assistant district attorneys in that office right now who are very capable of prosecuting cases. We have law enforcement who are ready to get back to work doing what they know how to do, and we need a district

attorney who will follow the law and put safety first.

Speaker 1 Is there any reason why he’s not following it? I mean, I don’t understand. He’s a very smart person, He’s a Harvard graduate. Why is he not following the law and putting criminals away? You know?

Speaker 2 I wish I knew. I don’t know, But I do know that he’s not alone in this ideology of sort of restorative justice, and that the people who are committing the crimes are actually the victims that you need to have two standards of justice. George Soros, who is a major funder of progressive district attorneys supported Alvin Bragg, but

he also supported district attorneys all over our country. And we see the same results everywhere. We saw what happened in San Francisco, in Los Angeles, and you know the truth is voters in those cities and just recently, the voters in Los Angeles turfed out their George Soros back prosecutor, George Gascone was his name, and they opted for safety.

And New Yorkers need to do the same thing. We have every right to say city. You know, in twenty seventeen we had zero murders on the subway. That’s the New York City we need to get back to.

Speaker 1 And I agree with you one hundred percent. And tell the audience your name again. Tell people your website.

Speaker 2 Absolutely, Maud Maren. The last name is m A R O n. And if you go to Maud m Aud Fourmanhattan dot com, you can get lots of information, you can sign up, you can donate, you can volunteer. We’d love to have your support in any way that you’re able to give it.

Speaker 1 Bud Maren, thank you so much, and me New York City, Manhattan has always been a great city and we hope we can get it back to where it was.

Speaker 2 Thank you so much, weekend, thank you
