Automated transcript · uncorrectedWith us this Sunday morning is Ontario Premier Doug Ford. And in Canada, for those of us who don’t know, there are ten provincial premiers and three territorial premiers, and Doug Ford is the Premier of Ontario, which has the largest city of Toronto. Mister Premier Ford, tell us about Ontario and tell us about your visions about energy in
America in the Americas.
Well, first of all, thanks for having me on, John, and I look forward to coming down. I’m paying a visit and I extended an invitation to everyone, to the greatest neighbors who get over asked for in the New York State as well, to come up and pay Ontario a visit. I always say we’re connected at the hip,
two close vi our allies in the world, the longest unprotected border in the world, and we just share the same views and cultures. And I guess I’ll start off with you know, Ontario has become an economic powerhouse in North America and around the world, and we do approximately five hundred billion Canadian and that’s seventy three cents on
a dollar, but five hundred billion dollars. And if we’re a standalone country, we’d be the US’s third largest trading partner in the world, and we’re number one export destination for US states seventeen US states. We’re their number one customer and number two. E love in other states, so we do a lot of cross border trade and we’re
just looking to continue to grow on that. I always say, and I’m probably the John, I’m probably the worst culprit when I say by Cane, by Ontario and so on and so forth. And I spent twenty years of my life in our Chicago facility and our New Jersey facility in the US. I absolutely love the US. I’m your
number one salesperson. Everyone knows I spent a big chunk of my life down there. And there’s just so many areas because at the end of the day, at John, it’s it’s US versus the rest of the world against Asia, in South America, over in Europe, and we just have a lot to offer to each other. When I when
it comes to even critical minerals, we have the largest mining sector in the entire world, and we know that China’s cornered the market on nickel and other critical minerals, but they haven’t cornered anything here in Ontario and and that’s where everything from the US Defense Department to making EV batteries and vehicles, we need those critical minerals and
we’re always willing to partner up with with again the greatest neighbors on ours that’s the US and we again we we I have a different philosophy when it when it comes to, you know, the government. I’m a business person, not a politician. I don’t like politicians, be very frank, and I don’t like government. And I always say the
worst place you give your money is to the government. And no matter if it’s a state level, federal level, or you know, a municipal municipal level. We’ve taken a different approach since we’ve taken office over six years ago.
The previous government, the levels chased three hundred thousand jobs out of the province with high taxes. I read regulations and red tape and energy costs. And now six years forward, there’s seven hundred and fifty thousand more people working today that they weren’t working six years ago. I’ve never raised at tax. We’re the only government in the history of
Canada that’s never raised at tax. We’ve reduced the burden of taxes off the docks of companies by eight billion dollars each and every single year. We’ve cut over a billion dollars of red tape, and we’ve reduced the taxes for people as well. And it’s very simple, like it’s economics, one on one. Put money back into people’s pockets and
they’re going to go out and spend it as simple John, as simple as going going out for dinner or buying you know, refrigerator, or buying clothes that you might otherwise not not be able to buy. If the government continues to goug you and UH businesses put money.
Yes, mister Premium. There’s been a big challenge going on in the United States and Canada lately that President Biden has pushing electric vehicles, and I like to get your views on it, uh. In my personal opinion is what the chairman of Toyota says. I’m going to make diesel fuel vehicles, I’m going to make gays vir vehicles, I’m
going to make electric vehicles. I’m going to make hyper vehicles and let the consumer decide. What are your thoughts?
Well, I but vehicles Toyota and they had a record year of thirty six billion dollars of profitt worldwide. That’s more than Amazon and and I think it’s a combination of everything. We’re really trending towards the EV side. But in saying that, I think there’s room for for everything, and we need the critical minerals for the EV sector
that we have. We have probably over a trillion dollars worth of critical minerals that we can share. But that that goes you know, nickel and silver and cobalt and lithium. The echoes into every every product at one time or another, no matter if it’s their cell phone or into a battery or a refrigerator. And that’s why that’s why we
need to stick together. And I always say, uh, you know, let’s let’s start saying let’s buy North American because we’re so connected. And they even an auto park can go back and forth across the border eight times before it gets assembled in Ontario or assembled in the US somewhere.
So it’s I just don’t believe in all or nothing. Plus when it comes to the evs, I think everywhere in North America we start, we have to start putting the infrastructure in the charging stations, and I think it’s a little ways off, but We’ve attracted over forty three billion dollars in investment over the last two and a
half years in the EV sector of boats wagons, building the largest battery plant in North America sixteen million square feet. But again it’s a combination of everything combined. But I think the big part of it is you mentioned it earlier, is energy. You know, with Ontario or leaders in nuclear, we have the knowledge, you know, the technology. We have
the largest nuclear facility in the world over a poost power. We have some other nuclear facilities as well, but we’re also producing small modular reactors, so it’d be about the size of a Walmart. It can power a town of the four hundred thousand people. And you know the geopolitical situation happening around the world, more and more countries are
gonna want those. And what people don’t realize, you’re in Ontario. We can deliver energy as far as south as Florida, and we know New York State is going to need the energy in Pennsylvania and Ohio and everyone else. And we’re better partner to partner up with than UH than Ontario.
And that’s clean, green, safe energy. And we have a willing host and the willing host are the people of Ontario.
Yes, and small modular reactors. I’ve been pursuing it because we have a oil company, oil refinery and we started a nuclear subsidiary to push small modular reactors and to explain it to the common sense people out there. Those are typical small reactors that were on our submarines or our aircraft carriers, and they’re being converted into a land modules.
Is that correct?
That’s correct? And then there’s many modular reactors as well. We can build them any size. But if you come up in face a visit John, I’ll personally take you on a tour of where they’re building the small modular reactors up in Darlington in Ontario, not too far from New York. And it’s just the way the future because
again it’s clean grain as reliable, and it’s affordable energy and it’s consistent and I know energy is going to be like gold, and well it’s pretty well gold right now, and we’ll be able to export that energy when there’s speaks without the energy surge. Maybe in the summer when everyone’s using their air conditioning, you’re going to need more energy,
while we’re going to be there and give you a reliable energy. But this goes back to you sticking together. I spent twenty years of my life in our Chicago facility, in our New Jersey facility in Pennsawkan. I just absolutely love the US. And then someone called me up and said, well, there’s an opportunity to be premier, and premier is equivalent
to governor in the in the US. And we’ve really changed the culture. We’ve changed on Ontario into economic powerhouse and all fronts. Even even when we talked something that no one talks about agricultural products. Let’s say the mini tomatoes and you know many cucumbers they’re coming from Ontario.
We ship out twenty five billion dollars a year, majority of its going of the border there and you go into any retailer and it’ll say made in Ontario. We have the largest greenhouses anywhere.
And Premia Premier Doug Ford, I look forward to meeting with you, and it seems like your your premiership over there of province from Ontario. You guys are doing great and we need some more common sense. Can can you bottle common sense and send.
Us some Well, you know something, I think I think everyone down there has a lot of common sense. They’re really smart people, and we just have to get a government in there that, uh, well, well number one, protect North America and in a good fashion. And it was kind of I was kind of almost fell off my
chair when I watched the debate the other night. That’s sad. That’s actually a sad situation.
Very sad. I’m sure every foreign country was looking at it, and it’s our enemies have been probably having a party.
Yeah, they’re they’re having a party. It’s some unfortunate China and Russia are looking thinking. Man, they’re they’re weak. But I have a message to Russia and China. Never underestimate the will and the power of the United State States of America. I love them, and I just would never underestimate them. So again, hopefully the people will make the
right decision no matter who it is. We worked with the Republicans, we work with the Democrats, and we’ll make sure we’re always your closest ally and we’ll always have your backs. And I encourage everyone come up and visit Ontario.
Sixteen million people. We’re going to overtake New York State in another six years in population, fastest growing region in North America. Faster than Texas, faster than Florida. We had over eight hundred thousand people show up to our province last year alone.
I am coming, I am coming.
Good, and I’ll bring you up for a good Greek dinner. Josh.
Thank you, Ontario Premier dug Ford. Thank you for everything you’re doing for the Americas. Because Canada and the United States we’re on one big boat together. Thank you so much. I look forward to meeting you.
Thank you, and God bless America.
God bless myr. Thank you.
