Speaker 1 With us today is Gordon G. Chang, and he is our expert in the Far East, a member of the Katestone Institute, a scholar, a author of the coming collapse of China, and Gordon, there’s a lot of things happening.

How much weakness did the Chinese perceive any in the debate speech by President Baden?

Speaker 2 China was very quick to comment on Thursday’s debate. Officially, the reaction was muted. This came from a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, who said that the China does not get involved in other countries affairs, but they were very concerned about China being mentioned during the debate and both campaigns using China as sort of like a

whipping boy. But unofficially there was a ferocious propaganda and political warfare campaign, and basically it was to say that Western democracy was at risk because we had two old, dazed men who were confused and who showed America in its worst light. So really, this campaign theme has actually been repeated quite a lot. And I’m concerned that c

jmping looked at the debate and saw that President Biden was weak, President Trump was strong, and that means there could be a window closing window of opportunity for China to move against American interests and America’s friends between now and noon on June twenty January twenty twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 Well, that’s something we should all be concerned about. What do you think is happening in a democratic party? I mean, how are they going to solve this from.

Speaker 2 I don’t know. It looks like there’s a lot of basically a lot of momentum for put to push President Biden out. You know, we’re seeing this in these stories that are coming out of the New York Times and other outlets, And of course China is watching this very very carefully because what they are seeing is a political

system in disarray. In Chinese people, by the way, have a very different take than the Chinese regime because they see that people can change their leaders and that’s a very dangerous narrative for the Communist Party. So, you know, we see the Communist Party in China playing with fire when they go out to criticize quote unquote Western democracy

and American democracy because of the debate performance of President Biden understood.

Speaker 1 Trump. Is China afraid of Trump or they’re willing to work with well.

Speaker 2 China has to work with the president of the United States, whoever that person may be, whether they liked them or not. I think they’re very concerned about Trump, and it’s not because Trump is hostile. Chinese leaders have dealt with hostile American presidents for a very long time, but they can’t deal with unpredictable ones, and Trump, in their view, is unpredictable.

And I think the tone between Sigemping and Donald Trump was set in April twenty seventeen when Sigmping was at marl Lago over dinner that famous famous chocolate cake incident where Trump stood up and said that he had ordered missile strikes on Syria, a Chinese friend and partner, and Sigimping was quiet. Sigen Ping did not know what to say,

and I think that sigean Ping from that moment on decided that he was not going to take on the United States under Trump because he just didn’t know how to deal with this. The Chinese love predictability, hostile friendly, It doesn’t matter in a sense. The Chinese will figure out a way to deal with US, but they can’t

deal with Trump. And that is also I think true for Vladimir Putin and others, which is the reason why Putin did not move on Ukraine during four years when Trump was at the Oval Office.

Speaker 1 And Trump says, and I believe him, and I know it’s true. I don’t think Putin would have moved on to the Ukraine if we didn’t give up the Afghanistan so easily. And that’s what you know.

Speaker 2 President Biden did, yes, and Trump during the debate mentioned that, and he also said something which is true. And then he said, the whole world is blowing up under Biden, and that’s almost a direct quote, and that’s true. It started with Afghanistan and then it continued to Ukraine, the problems in North Africa, and of course the attack on Israel.

And we have seen China become especially provocative against both the Philippines and Taiwan in East Asia. So you have the Chinese right now pressing their neighbors very hard. And it’s not just Taiwan and the Philippines, it’s also Japan and India. So siegimping looks like he has decided. Clearly, he has decided to risk war because that’s what he’s doing.

The only thing we don’t know John is whether Siegimping has already made the decision to go to war, but clearly East Asia right now and South Asia are very dangerous places.

Speaker 1 Is still making a move towards the Philippines.

Speaker 2 They are now in negotiations stage with the Philippines. But this I think is just a temporary respite. We have seen this before, and China’s activities at Tewod Thomas shol on June seventeenth were almost the type that start wars because it could very well have happened. As they seize to Philippine craft, they rammed another one. They injured eight

Filipino sailors, one of them seriously. This was the type of activity of a regime that wants to go to war. And so although things have been quiet for a little while, they still are on the boil. At Scarborough Shoal, which is near Second Thomas Shoal, the Chinese tried to block a medical relief a fleet to rescue a Chinese Filipinos fishermen.

That is not the activities of the activity of a Chinese regime that wants peace understood.

Speaker 1 Anything else you want to tell you American people on this Sunday.

Speaker 2 Morning, well, right now is We’ve got to be very concerned about the mentality of what’s going on in China. You know, we’ll try to figure out what’s Egenping is doing. A lot of his external activities don’t make sense. They’re actually quite counterproductive because although they’re hostile and belligerent, they are uniting the region together, not only moving them closer

to the United States, but also countries like Japan, South Korea, Philippines are in Taiwan are actually working much more closely together. That’s not good for Sigimping. But I think that he’s doing this not because he thinks that war will unify the Chinese people, because war would be very unpopular in China right now. I think what he is sie Jimping

is doing is he’s trying to prevent other communist leaders from deposing him because a foreign crisis would mean that it’d be possible to move on Siegimping. So right now is a very dangerous time in the sense that problems are in the Philippines and elsewhere, but a lot of problems inside China, and so there’s right now a lot

of unpredictability about how this can go, and Biden’s not paying attention.

Speaker 1 Well, I don’t think he can pay attention. Well, Gordon Chang, and your Twitter is at Gordon G Chang.
