Automated transcript · uncorrectedWith us this Sunday morning is Andrew. Governor Andrew Cuomo and last week gave the wedding of the Century, which I was privileged to to be invited to Governor. That was some wedding.
It was beautiful. First of all, John, thank you so much in Margot for being there. But it was beautiful. It was a great spot on Cape Cod at Hyanna’s Port. There’s a lot of history there and the weather was good, and my daughter Mariah was over the moon, which is what it’s all about. And the young man she’s marrying,
they’ve dated for six years. I know him and I have a good feel about him. So but it’s still a little bittersweet, John. You know, I’m happy to see her start a new journey in her life. But at the same time, as a father, you know, you wonder are you going to get as much time or you’re
going to miss her. But it was a beautiful event, no doubt.
It was at the Kennedy Compound, and that’s a historic place and I’ve only been there once before and it is a historic place.
Well, that site where they got married, on that point overlooking the water in front of the Kennedy Joe Kennedy’s house, the Grandfather. That’s the site in my mind, John, where you saw the helicopter landing and President Kennedy getting out and John Junior greeting his father and Jacqueline on Nassas.
So a lot of memories, a lot of history.
Absolutely, And then I understand you went to a big concert, the final concert of one of your good friends, Billy.
Joe, Billy Joel. He was at the wedding also, as you know, and he Madison Square Garden one hundred and fifty hit, one hundred and fiftieth show ten years which said also of records, nobody expected it. I was there when we first announced that he was going to be the new franchise. Jim Dolan called him, and ten years
later he sold out every show, once a month, over one hundred and fifty shows. President Clinton was there. It was really a special, special concert. And Billy’s an international hero, but he’s still New York’s boy and he loved it.
His daughter was up on the stage. It was beautiful. I was really proud to be part of it.
Let’s go to politics, Well, Kamala Harris, it looks like the deal is done. It looks like everybody is indorseda. What say you?
It looks like the Democratic Party has come together around the vice president. I think in retrospect everybody was there. It’s unfortunate the transition, the handoff of the baton from President Biden was unnecessarily attenuated and complicated. So we’ve talked a lot about personal so far, whether it’s President Biden or Trump or a nono the vice president. But I’d
like to see the Democrats start talking about the issues because that’s what’s important, that’s what people are concerned about, and that’s where we’re going to win. And we are in the midst of an urban crisis in this country and we’re not even talking about it. We see it in New York City, but it’s La it’s San Francisco,
post COVID. Businesses are moving out, high taxes, people are moving out. You have crime, you have homelessness. And it’s traditionally the Democrats that care about the cities in this country. I was HUD secretary under President Clinton. We talked about an urban agenda. How do you help the cities? And that should be paramount, and I want to hear the
Democrats start talking about that, because we first it’s a major priority for this nation. Second, that’s where the Democrats are, and you want that base excited, you want people coming out. Well, they have to know that you’re actually going to do something for them. That’s what this is all about.
Bottom line is we need for urban cities common sense democrats because you can’t have the crime that’s going on. You can’t have them. You can’t import a million, five million, ten million migrants that take away from the social security system, et cetera, et cetera, And we need some common sense, Governor.
John one hundred percent. This is not rocket science, right. You bring in hundreds of thousands of migrants, you have no plan. They get distributed across this country with no plan. New York City takes a couple of hundred thousand, no money from the federal government. The state gives chump change to New York City. There’s no plan on how to
handle them, house them, feed them, medical care. Then you have crime. Then you have people leaving because of taxes. Then you have homelessness on the streets with mentally ill people who actually need help and we’re not doing anything about it. And then you have COVID. Post COVID, you can move wherever you want to move and remote work
in zoom. So cities are in a real transition period, and Democrats were the ones who always talked about the urban agenda. I was HUT Secretary under President Clinton. We were very aggressive on an urban agenda, but an intelligent, practical agenda that works. You’re right, no more of this extreme ideology that doesn’t make any practical sense.
Ex governor extremism in any direction, right or left does makes sense. We need to be the common sense Democrats and common sense Republicans. Thank you so much for coming on this Sunday morning. God Bless you was the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to, and God bless America.
Thank you for being there. Same here
