Speaker 1 Sunday Morning. Well us as Governor David Patterson. He loves this show. We love him, and people really understand the common sense that he is relating to Governor Patterson. So many things happening in our city or state, the world.

What do we talk about this morning? And I enjoy our conversations.

Speaker 2 Thank you well, John. This was really quite a tragic week in a certain sense. For the first time in over twenty years, we had a aircraft collision and crash right into the Potomac in Washington, d C. And before I talk about that at all, I think we should not be as hard on ourselves as a country and

as a group of people, because there are First of all, that airport is crowded, if not more crowded than LaGuardia Airport they’ve built very similarly. And secondly, you know, I remember, I’m sure you do too, back in the eighties and the nineties that an airplane crash was not was not something that happened every twenty years. They seem to happen

every other year, And a number of people spoke about that on Thursday later on in the day. So it’s a horrible tragedy. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t do a lot of work to find out how it happened and what caused it. And then the other thing that I think goes on now when there’s a major tragedy

is within three or four hours there are all kinds of rumors and statements on the internet, and you know, all kinds of blame being passed around. And they got DEI in to it and the whole thing, and really.

Speaker 1 The Russian the Russian newspapers Pravda put out last Friday morning or Thursday night that it was a transgender or that helicopter, and it turned out to be not true. But at least it pressed all the American newspapers to what to be better. It pressed the American newspapers to do more research and find out the truth. And and

that’s what Pravda did.

Speaker 2 Yes, And you know the problem, you know, when they put that out and it was disproven, it just fulfills the adage that a lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can strap its boots on. That that’s really, you know, what adds to a terrible situation.

I didn’t think that the response John was appropriate. I really thought that the officials, the president and the others who spoke. They certainly acknowledged the families and had a moment of silence and a prayer for them. But I thought it was too early to start assessing all other types of situations and grudges with appointees and former presidents

and that kind of thing. I just didn’t think that that was the time for that. And because originally when I heard they were gonna have a press conference, and they announced around nine thirty in the morning, the press conference was at eleven, I thought that that was great that they were getting right out there and getting right

in front of this and talking about everything they would do to try to come up with the answers. But it turned into almost like a campaign debate, and it just didn’t sit well with me.

Speaker 1 I understood, and I agree one hundred percent. Where do we go from here? How do we get Democrats and Republicans to worry more about our country than to worry about politics.

Speaker 2 Well, that’s sort of what I was sort of just finishing talking about, was that that this pest conference kind of perpetuated that. And I think the American people spoke. They definitely wanted Donald J. Trump to be the president of the United States, and people who didn’t like the results, some of them said they’re moving out of the country.

I haven’t heard seen one of them do it yet, But the point is there has to be respect for our system. He was properly elected and he will, you know, govern as he sees fit at times that you know there will be disagreement between him and Congress. Right now, he’s having a conversation with Governor Holk about the about

the congestion pricing that she’s imposed here in the city, and she says that there’ve been thirty six thousand less cars in that catchment area of the Central Business District. President Trump listened and told her to he’ll get back to her before he makes a decision. So he’s going to be involved in that respect. And I think that

all of us could really benefit from stepping back and taking a deep breath and remembering that when President Trump got elected in twenty seventeen, the country did not fall into the ocean. By the time he came up for reelection in twenty twenty one, and it’s a different and.

Speaker 1 The governor is a different Trump that got elected in twenty twenty five or twenty twenty four because I think he learned a lot from his presidency. I think he’s learned a lot from sitting on the beach four years getting attacked, and I think he’s a much better president today than he was in twenty seventeen.

Speaker 2 Well, he’s playing with the House’s money. I mean, he is doing exactly what he wants to do. He’s doing it quickly, as no other president got involved in so many issues in a week other than Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he became when he was an augurator on March fourth of nineteen thirty three. So he really it’s his show.

And that’s why I did not want to be critical of his point of view. I mean I am at times, but I just thought that wasn’t the place for it. The same way he had to tell this reporter who started asking questions about the Congo right as they’re still pulling bodies out of the Potomac. I thought that was

totally inappropriate. And I think this is what those of us who would like to think that we have at some point been leaders in different communities have got to pull back here and start letting other people know that this is not a good way for our country to demonstrate its sovereignty with the greatest country in the world.

We have opportunities right now, according to our new president, to become even greater, and I think that should be the focus, as opposed to these kind of internison statements that we make about each other.

Speaker 1 I agree with you one hundred time percent. Well, Governor, thank you for our conversation, and this conversation has to be continued during the week then when we get together and on Sundays when we get together, because common sense has to prevail.

Speaker 2 I’ll see you again on Thursday night.
