Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning. What us today is Senator Ron Johnson, one common sense individual from Middle America, Wisconsin. Well, Senator Johnson, so many things are going on. Where do we begin. I mean, we’ve got the the Republicans have the Senate, they have the Congress, they have the Executive Office. Can we bring some common sense to the world.
We’re trying. It’d be nice if Democrats would cooperate so President Trump can staff his administration. I think the tragedy or tomk just shows how important that President Trump has his cabinet nominees confirmed and working on the job. But you know, from my standpoint, John Well, I think Congress has to primarily focus on There’s so many things. Two things,
we have to make sure that there’s no massive automatic tax increase in twenty twenty six, and we have to bring down total government spending to pandemic levels. You know, I know people don’t like numbers, but I have to throw out a couple. Prior to the pandemic, total government spending was four point four trillion dollars. Then we went
on a massive spending spree, spend almost six six point six trillion dollars. American family, if you have an illness and you have to borrow fifty thousand dollars pay for medical bills. But you get well, you don’t keep borrowing fifty thousand dollars and keep spending that level. Just stop borrowing.
You go back to your pre illness level. Plus how the federal government did the last five years, We’ve averaged six point five trillion dollars. Last year, we spent six point nine. This year, we’ll spend about seven trillion dollars, well fifty per cent higher than we did prior to the pandemic. So we’d have to return to pre pandemic levels.
I’ve given my colleagues a number of options. You can go back to different pre pandemic spending levels, and you can grow them to account for growth and population and inflation. You can slot in this year’s social s, kirity, medicare, and interest. Those are what they are. But if you do that, for example, with nineteen ninety eight to Clinton budget,
which by the way, forty repugnant Senate Sender’s voted for, we’d be spending five point five billion dollars. John, That’s that’s what Biden is projecting for revenue. We’d have a balanced budget. So use Clinton spending priorities again that he spent one point seven, but you inflate that up to about five point five. Now you feel like that is
Obama tewventy fourteen, you’d be about six point two.
Is cleaning up Washington. The President has announced that you got to go to work five days a week, and if you want to resign, you resign and he’ll pay you until September. How many people do you think are going to resign? How many people are going to go back to work five days a week.
That’ll be a really interesting question. You know. My guess is a lot of people taking him up in his offer. It’s a very generous offer because otherwise they’re going to have to come back and work. And that’s, you know, an unspoken truth around here is you know, with COVID, everybody started teleworking and they never came back. So not
only do we not get the correctivity, I’m sure some people do work really hard from work or from home. My guess is a lot of people don’t. We also spend billions of dollars with the upkeep heating, keeping these office buildings empty. So again there’s so much waste, there’s so much abuse, in federal government. So this is one way,
you know that basically buy out encouraging federal employees to resign. That’s one way we can do this. But again, Congress. Congress has to an act a budget that makes sense taking us back to pre pandemic levels. That’s our job.
Yes, absolutely, And uh, you know, I think payroll come down significantly. And the rumor was that some of these people had two jobs, not being away from the office, so they’re getting paid double pay. What else do you think that we can do? Uh? At first, the president we sended called upon a foreign aid to be stopped
until they can review it. What aid is it is the president bringing back according to these bringing back some of it.
Well, I’m sure anything that was funding abortions, anything that’s funding these DEI initiatives look at all, surely funding countries that are hostile to us, that aren’t aren’t engaged in fair trade. So again, there’s a host of reasons that he ought to be redoing these things. Some is just stupid, fraudulent spending. So you know, I probably applauded the President
for doing that. Somebody’s got to look at this, and that, of course is what the DOJE efforts all about as well. It’s just you know, top to bottom. You know, let’s start with upgrading our air traffic control system. We know it’s been broken for years. We don’t know the exact cause of what happened with the pet Potomac, but our
condoleces go out to the families with involved in that tragedy. But you know, we’ve known our CONTROLSYS has been broken for years. It’s time to fix it. And somebody like Elon Musk is the perfect guy to to help do that.
Exactly. Uh and uh, he wants to get it done too. Now I understand that you introduced a bill to band transgender students from doing boy men. They have been transgendered to women to play against women players. I mean, I think you’re doing one hundred percent right.
Well, this is something I mean, this is one of the reasons President Trump won the election. Uh. People are just appalled that we’ve allowed our girls to have to compete against biological males. First of all, it’s grotesque, you know, uncompetitive, it’s it’s just grossly unfair. But it’s also dangerous for girls. Uh.
Then you then the biological mails insist on showering with them. They’re sharing their locker room, sharing their bathrooms. I mean, Americans look at that. That is crazy. So I love the fact that President Trump immediately issued to an EO saying, in America, we recognize two genders. If that’s the way God made us male female, that’s what we’re recognizing. People
have problems. We’re compassionate. We’ll try and help people through problems. But we shouldn’t let the people with problems. You know, boys compete against our girls.
I saidator, we have another minute left. What would you like to tell you emerge from people on a Sunday morning.
Well, I’m actually hopeful the coalition to President Trump put together with people like Bobby Kennedy, and again I credit both those men for putting aside their flitical differences, deciding to focus on air of agreement, trying to conquer, find the root cause, and conquer chronic illness, things like autism, all these things that only not not only demonstrates how
to solve a problem, it also demonstrates how you heal and unify a very divided nation. We have to put our political differences aside. We have to recognize that as human beings, we pretty well share the same goals. We may have different ideas how to accomplish those goals, but let’s let’s not question each other’s motives. That’s just a
shiny example. It’s what our nation has been crying for. And you know again, it’s this point. The Democrats were so hostile in Bobby’s confirmation hearings. But.
The American people wanted, I know, for my comments, just the comments I’ve gotten on Twitter for you know, my support of Bobby Kennedy gives me hope.
I agree with you, Senator, it’s not about being a Democrat, not about being a Republican. It’s being about being an American. And then we should all be Americans and do the right thing for America. And that’s the what we should be doing.
That was common sense as common sense.
Thank you, Senator Ron Johnson from the great state of Wisconsin, and we’ll be talking to you again real soon.
Have a great day.
