Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday Morning with us. Is the former Speaker at the House, the new Kingridge. One of the most remarkable people I know, and he’s going to go down in American history. You’ve done so much. I mean, you and Bill Clinton were the only ones to reduce the deficit. I don’t know anybody else to reduce the deficit. Everybody else gets a
bigger deficit.
Well, look, I’m pretty proud of the fact that while I was Speaker, we launched the program that, for the only time in the last hundred years, balanced the budget for four straight years. And when I left office, Alan Greenspan, the chairman of the Federal Reserve was actually actually gave a speech and said they were projecting that we pay
off all federal debt around two thousand and nine. So I felt like we had, between welfare reform and the invention of Medicare advantage and a number of other reforms, we’d really got in the country movie in the right direction.
And what happened, what the heck happened.
Well, I don’t think the President, George Bush ever had a clue about why Reagan had succeeded, why we had succeeded. I think he was a very standard politician and went back to the borrow money, spend money, you know. I mean the fact that his first big legislative effort was to work with Teddy Kennedy on education reform tells you
everything you need to know, because the truth is Edward Kennedy was against education reform. He just wanted more money for the teachers unions. I used to tell people ted Teddy would wake up every morning and say, the answer is more money. What’s the question? And so it’s unfortunate, but you could see literally and it’s actually felt what
happened with his father. George Schultzley such I said under Reagan used to say that when George H. W. Bush took over, even though he’d been vice president with Reagan for eight years, he didn’t like Reagan’s policies, and in the first two weeks he got rid of every single Reaganite.
And I think he had a kind of a similar attitude with his son. And the truth is Reagan’s policy has worked, Our policies worked, and Trump’s policies are working, but they’re not the policies of the old line establishment Republicans.
And George W. Bush, I guess, did his own thing. And we went the wrong direction there too.
Yeah, well he did. And you know, you could tell it in Katrina, when the government had failed to function so bad. It was like North Carolina under Biden. I mean, he looked at if you remember that Katrina was horrible that they had. For example, they actually had a body lying in the street on television for three days and
the Secretary of Homeland Security didn’t know it. Apparently never looked at the TV. They had no idea what was going on in.
The real world.
So it’s on. But look, I think the positive side of this is that despite everything the left has done, and despite everything the never trumpet Republicans have done, the objective reality is that Trump has fought his way through the country has rallied around him. He’s currently has a higher approval rating than he’s ever had at any point
in his career, and the country had. You know, even even though there’ll be mistakes and they’ll be sloppiness, they’ll be confusion, the country loves the scale of change. They love the aggressiveness, and they love the fact that you finally have somebody who’s both keeping his campaign pleasures and is willing to take on the establishment and fight his
way through the victory.
Well, you know, I had a discussion with President Trump, and it looks like he’s following what we discussed. As the oil prices go down, then the price of food goes down, then interest rates go down. But I don’t understand how we went through four years of they didn’t know what they were doing.
Well, it’s because I didn’t know what they’re doing. I mean, look, if you have a guy who believes in the fantasy world and he has no idea how the real market works, and he has no idea about how you get things done, you end up in the kind of mess we ended up in. I mean, I mean Trump. Trump had both
controlled the border, rebuilt the military, got in the economy rolling at at a very fast pace because he actually understood the real world. I always tell people liberals are people who watched The Lion King and thought it was a documentary and they actually believed the lions and zebras sing and dance together. We try to convince them, actually
lions eat zebras and they go, no, no, didn’t you see the movie? And that was that was Joe Biden as entire team. They were just they were out of touch with how the real world works.
Absolutely Sunday morning, people are drinking their black coffee. What do you want to give them? Hope? Tell us how fast before we realized that everything’s going in the right direction and there’s not going to be any more wars in Europe and Asia and whatever.
Well, we hope. And again, the wars existed for all of human history. So I don’t think he promised no wars. But I think you can promise an American administration that’s very careful, that does everything you can to foster peace, and that uses our own forces very very carefully. I think also, I mean, just look at the investments that
are being announced, look at the breakthroughs and artificial intelligence. There’s so many different positive things happening out there. I’ve been telling people when we celebrate our two hundred and fiftieth birthday next year, we should also look ahead to the next two hundred and fifty years, and we’ll give you some idea of how cool this is all going
to be. I mean, we’re going to have breakthrough after breakthrough. We’re going to live in a world that is just dramatically wealthier, where people live longer and they live healthier.
Yes, and you know, we have my dot Demi Hellos every Sunday, and we gave him a nickname, Live Long and prosper, And he’s teaching us all our seventy year olds how to live to one hundred and live long and prosper.
Uh. That’s right, it’s all. It’s all coming along, not just not just as a Balkan statement from Starship Star Trek, but in the real.
World, nerking Rich, keep praying for America. We’re gonna win. You know, it’s a it’s gonna be a better world than twenty twenty five. Sure is
