And don’t forget President Trump is New York originally, and he wants the right things to happen by in New York and he’s working very hard at it. Well, what is this Sunday morning? Is a Congressman Michael Lawler, and he happened to be with the President Trump a
few days ago, and uh, he has a few things to say. Well, Congressman Lawlert, give us a briefing of what what if you’ve learned this week about how President Trump is going to handle New York, how President Trump is going to handle certain other things. It’s your flaw.
Well, thanks for having me, John. You know, I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with the President twice in the last few weeks and talk about the issues impacting New York and certainly you know, on the issue of salt and congestion pricing, those are top of mind to New York in addition to the migrant crisis and deporting
criminal aliens. But you know, I think the President, at the end of the day, he’s a New Yorker at heart, and he and he still cares about New York and wants to see New York do well and wants New Yorkers to do well. And so, you know, we talked about the need to kill congestion pricing. He agrees wholeheartedly
with me on that that it’s it’s a scam and it’s not going to work when all it’s said and done, and is really nothing more than a cash grab. And so, you know, we talked about the need.
For especially especially when the MTA a law blue but it was a five billion dollars over three years on not collecting tolls.
Oh, no question. I mean between tolls and you know subway fairs, they’re they’re losing billions of dollars over the last few years. Meanwhile, they’re trying to scam hardworking New Yorkers out of a billion dollars here so they can buy ro fifteen billion more. And this is the same authority, John that has debt greater than eighty percent of the
states in the country. Think about that, they carry more debt than eighty percent of the state.
So when you talk about a three hundred and fifty billion dollar budget between New York City and New York State, three hundred and fifty billion for twenty two million people, when Florida, for twenty two million people’s less than one hundred and ten. There’s a fourth or third bottomless pit called the MTA.
Correct correct And it really it’s just truly remarkable the level of incompetence and mismanagement in our state and city, and the spending increases have been astronomical. I mean, you’re talking in the last four or five years, the governor has introduced in increased state spending by sixty one billion dollars and now she’s proposing to increase it by ten
billion more. Uh. And the city over the last decade has increased city wide budget by seventy percent. This is unsustainable. And you know then obviously you look at what they’re doing here with congestion pricing. So I feel President Trump is well within his right and the Federal Highway Administration and the Department of Transportation to revoke the approvals issued
by the binding administration and really hold you know, the city accountable and the state accountable and the MTA accountable for its mismanagement of these these funds that they’ve had for years. And if the governor can find ten billion dollars to increase state spending. Surely she could find a billion dollars out of that to support the MTA. But
this is, you know, a big issue, and obviously salt is a is another big issue for New York. The President reason.
Is he going to help all over? He is?
He He reiterated his support for lifting the cap on salt. He agrees with us on the need to do it. So we’re working through that process with ways and means and UH leadership to come up with a number and really fight to help New Yorkers with some immediate tax relief.
And you know the number one item I went last week Jessica the Commissioner of NYPD about keeping New York safe, the quality of life in New York. And I think President Trump is sending you in Tom Horton U and uh, he’s gonna get rid of the criminals. But tell me, who are these US senators in New Jersey. They want
they want to keep the criminals and they don’t want to send them away. I don’t understand what tag is going on.
It’s crazy town. You know. Look, obviously President Trump has been very clear that we are going to be deporting criminal aliens out of the United States. Tom Holman is already hard at work along with Christy Nome, the Secretary Homeland Security and Ice, getting criminal aliens off our streets.
And the fact that you still have people in the federal government that are opposed to this, that are trying to encourage cities and states not to comply is truly insane, and state and sanctuary city policies need to come to an end. And one of the things that I believe fundamentally is the federal government should not be supporting cities
that engage in this. If you are violating federal law, if you are refusing to cooperate with federal law enforcement officials and immigration and customs officials, then you should not be getting billions upon billions of dollars from the federal government.
And so we are going to be looking at how we end these sanctuary city policies and force compliance with federal immigration law.
I agree with you hundred and temper sent well. Thank you, Congressman Laula for working hard for all in New York State, and thank you for your relationship with President Trump, and I believe that he wants to help New York City, New York State and let’s talk again real soon.
I appreciate it. Thanks John, take care,
