Speaker 1 With us today is John Chatches and a good friend. UH has companies around our country and he’s in a media business and he has one company in San Francisco that he’s concerned about. John, you were on our show a few weeks ago and you told us how you were very much concerned about San Francisco. Do you have

any update on what’s going on yet?

Speaker 2 Well, the only update, John, is that the tyranny of the minority continues. That’s my term, tyranny of the minority. You have a small number of homeless people who have become the centerpiece of San Francisco policy, and it’s very sad. Obviously, everyone has to be concerned when you see people that are in need of help. But what’s happened in San

Francisco is the leadership by the government, by the mayor and the city supervisors has allowed the condition of the city to erode and eroad and e road. And you add that together with the exodus that happened on the back of COVID, and you have a terrible situ situation in the city. We own a great business there called Gumps.

It’s a long standing luxury retail company. We’ve been there one hundred and sixty five years. I’d like to be there another hundred years. But unless something’s done to put people back in their offices and clean up the streets, I don’t know how you operate a business in San Francisco.

Speaker 1 So you’re getting any better? I know we talked about a month ago, a few weeks ago. Is it getting any better? Is it? Do people realize what’s going on yet?

Speaker 2 I think that in a funny kind of way, there is now a better understanding of how profound the problem is. And unfortunately, it requires a change in thinking by leadership who leads the city, and that means abandoning your failed urban policies and abandoning your rhetoric and putting people back in their offices. I’ve published some pieces on this. I’m

going to purchase a piece in the San Francisco Chronicle shortly. Our company is the mayor, the city supervisors, the district attorney, and the governor need to figure out how to put people back in their offices. In California, that’s the first thing.

You can’t have empty offices and homeless people on the streets and have a healthy city. So I think there’s been an improvement in the sense that there is now deep recognition across the political spectrum the situation is unsustainable.

But in order to fix it, you’ve got to change of policies.

Speaker 1 And are other cities in California as bad or what do you hear? Don’t?

Speaker 2 I don’t think other cities in Balas, California are nearly as bad. I mean, you know, traffic in Bakersfield, traffic in San Diego, some of these cities are there’s actually a decent amount of commerce going on. The homeless problem in San Francisco is connected to bad policy. So that’s why San Francisco is as bad as it is. You know,

the problems are everywhere. We have homeless people in every city in this country. It’s it’s how you handle it that matters. And somehow San Francisco got into this mind frame that we would do anything to allow these people to do anything in public bathe in the you know, the fountain of the find below the Apple Store has

become a public bath for homeless people. You know, it’s just a disaster. It’s it’s a public policy disaster. And until either these folks are voted out of office, which is what should happen, or they change the direction of their policies. The city will not correct itself.

Speaker 1 Johnny Chatchish, well, you’re a businessman and you’re also a investment banker in media. Name of your company is Methusia. How do you say, John.

Speaker 2 Matthusl advisors’lutely that’s who we are.

Speaker 1 Okay, thank you so much for giving us an update, and keep your eyes open and let’s pray for America.
