Automated transcript · uncorrectedWill us. Today is Ed Cox, New York State GOP chairman, and he has certain concerns. What’s going on in our city, in our state? Ed Cox tell us, what’s keeping you up at night?
Well, it’s keeping up mine is that we’ve got one party that controls all of all many of the supermajorities in both houses of the legislature. They gets finished their legislative season, and the laws are getting signed, and the legislation is getting signed in the law. The budget most important thing they do the latest in thirteen years. It’s
two times more than two times the budget of Florida, which is a larger state and population than ours. And in the next three fiscal years the governor’s all own finance section saying there’s going to thirty six accumulative thirty six big n dollar deficit coming down the pike at US.
No changes to the criminal laws such as cashist fail that’s causing crime in our streets. They’ve already killed the New York’s natural gas industry in the southern tier by banning completing. Now they’re beginning to kill the use of natural gas by saying you can’t have it in new construction.
They’re making changes to our election laws that will be challenged on constitutional basis, but they’re trying to make sure that they keep their supermajorities. But they changes the election laws for the next for as long as they want, so they control all the me absolutely with no other party challenging them. These are the kinds of problems that
have come out of this legislative session.
Now, the Supreme Court also voted that and I know me and you discussed it about federal elections shouldn’t somehow be involved in and I noticed Supreme Court has said in the past they don’t want to get involved in redistricting, but if it affects federal elections or if effect I mean, should they get involved.
They they have said that they are not going to get involved in partisan redistricting. They’re going to leave that to the states. And they also made it clear that the legislatures under the US Constitution, which says the legislature saw decide the time and method of elections in any state.
But but the Supreme Court said that’s not exclusive the legislature, that the state’s highest the courts can in fact act on it. And as we did here in New York to reject the radical Gerrymander that the Democrats tried to do and stop us only into for districts for congression districts instead, because we got a special Master ordered by
the courts to draw new districts, fair districts, very manded districts. We have eleven districts, which is a difference of seventy and that makes up the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. As you know, Chairman Comer was here and he kept making the point that without that challenge and the seven extra seats that we have here in New York,
he would not be uncovering all scandals about Biden.
You’re talking about Chairman McCarthy.
Uh, this was no, This was Chairman Comer of the Investigation Committee.
Oh I understand, Okay, you had.
Him on your on your radio show.
We were on, we were on together with him.
Yes, exactly, that’s right, that’s right. It’s a real cue to have him.
Well, Chairman McCarthy would not be chairman without uh, without New York State because the way New York State voted. And but this is going to have What I’m saying is the Constitution or the Supreme Court ruling was done for normal course of business. But because it is super majority, maybe that’s not normal course of business.
Well, they did do some specific specific laws, such as the Voting Whites Act, and under that they did uh uh make rulings that provide for majority minority districts in Alabama and Louisiana that should end up adding a democratic district to each of those two states. So they did, but that was under specific by the laws. It has
nothing to do with the with partisan jerry jerry mandarin, which they Streme courters They’re not going to touch.
It, understood. Anything else you want.
To talk about, Well, yeah, the other legislation they are making it hard to challenge the changes they made to election laws which are going to benefit them in upcoming elections, that you can only file those challenges in districts which are democratic discs, such as Albany and New York City, and therefore making sure that a democratically elected judge will
be ruling on those challenges in the first instance. These are the kinds of things they’re trying to do with all the power they have. In ob we really need to have what is just common sense to have two parties actually in power in Albany, and that’s what the state Party is going to be working towards over the
next election cycle.
Especially when it affects federal elections, which affects the whole country.
Well, exactly, that’s right.
Ed Cox, Chairman of New York State GOP. Thank you for your input and thank you and we’ll catch up again real soon and we’ll see you in the studio soon.
Always a pleasure, John
