Bernadette Castro Former NYS Parks Commissioner
Bruce Blakeman Is Stylistically Like George Pataki
Bernadette Castro
Bernadette Castro, who served 12 years as state parks commissioner under Gov. George Pataki, tells John Catsimatidis why she is working for Bruce Blakeman’s campaign for governor. She says Blakeman has run Nassau County the way Pataki ran the state, calls him a moderate, fiscally conservative and socially inclusive Republican, and urges listeners to vote early from Oct. 24 and bring others to the polls.
Key takeaways

Transcript
Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning, calling in Bernadette Castro, a good friend for many, many years. She worked for Governor Pataki for 12 years. And she calls me. She said to me the other day, I’m going to call in on Sunday morning because I got to get a few things off my chest. Well, Bernadette Castro, I still remember the day you were pulling
out that Castro convertible.
I love it, John, and I grew up with a lot of New Yorkers. And listen, for every New Yorker that loves the state as much as I do, and people in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island.
Upstate, Syracuse, your show goes everywhere.
I did work for Pataki for 12 years, day in and day out, and I know what a good governor looks like. Bruce Blakeman will be that kind of governor. We need that desperately.
He knows that pocketbooks are hurting. Budgets are hurting.
He’s going to lower utility bills. What he did in Nassau County, as county exec for five years, he’s in year five, he not only didn’t raise taxes, he killed $ 150 million of planned new taxes.
He killed them. You know, this is a.
Governor who gets it. You know, of course he’s, you know, for women’s rights. You know, he’s a moderate Republican. He’s pro-choice.
He’s fiscally conservative, but he’s socially inclusive. He’s exactly the.
Kind of governor Pataki was. He will be that. And we need that desperately. He believes in law enforcement. He hired more cops in Nassau County. Why? Because he was on the Port Authority board when we were attacked on 9-11.
He gets it. All right.
He’s ready to be governor and he’d be great. You know, I just want people to do one thing for me. If you can’t give him $ 50, try.
But if you can’t, get to the polls, take other people.
He’s going to win this race because of unlikely voters getting their butts out of the House and going to the polls.
So, Bernadette Castro, you’re looking at Bruce Blakeman as another George Pataki, and George Pataki did a great job for 12 years.
George Pataki was the best governor New York State’s ever had.
Okay? He was a moderate Republican. He was perfect.
He did so much for so many different entities in New York, whether it was the environment, whether it was law enforcement, and he was governor during 9-11. All right?
And you did a great job taking care of the parks departments for 12 years.
Right, because I had the support of a green Republican, which Bruce Blakeman is.
But let me tell you something about early voting, okay?
If everyone listening to your show, and I don’t care if they’re Republican, I hope there’s some Democrats and independents listening too, get out and early vote and then start taking friends, senior citizens, people to vote. If we get out the vote, Blinken’s going to win this thing, right?
We’re not going to win it by us talking about it. We’re going to win it by getting out starting October 24th, a Saturday, you can early vote.
So there’s no excuse. You got eight days to vote.
And that’s really important. You know, what has he done for women, girls sports, women’s sports in Nassau County? What he said is if you’re going to compete on a Nassau County.
Athletic field or facility in a girls or women’s sports.
You have to be born a female, no transgender. I have a daughter and granddaughters that.
Played ice hockey in college.
They would never have been able to compete against transgender players. So what he did for women’s sports, he will continue that fight. In addition, he founded the first breast cancer resource center in Nassau County. So this is a governor who gets the economy. He gets the rights of women, the rights of people that want to say, I don’t
want to pay these utility bills. I don’t want to move to Florida when I retire. I want to stay near my grandchildren. Bruce Blakeman gets it. So, John, I’m telling you, I’m working hard for him. And everyone listening, you don’t have to give big money. Little money is fine, but you need to vote.
And what’s the website to go to on that Bruce Blakeman website?
Yeah, it’s just Blakeman for New York, Blakeman for governor. You can Google anything you want with Bruce Blakeman’s name and you’ll get to the website and you’ll be able to donate and you’ll be able to read about his policies.
Which you’re going to love.
So this is a guy with a good track record. I have known him for decades as a person and I have been impressed. And Governor Pataki has endorsed him. Governor Pataki wants Blakeman to win. So, you know, I don’t know what else I can say, but I really hope your listeners will just motivate themselves, give a little
if they can, for sure get out and vote.
Take others to vote.
Take two people to the polls one day. Take another one another day.
You’ve got eight days.
Understood. Bernadette Castro, Women for Blakeman, thank you for coming on, and we’ll catch up with you again real soon. But I love those Castro convertible tapes, and you did a great, great job for 12 years in the parks department. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Bye-bye. Thank you. Thank you.
