Automated transcript · uncorrectedWell, my good friend Mark Siegel has a new book, and the book is called The Angels Among Us. Well, Mark Siegel, you’re one good friend, you’re one smart guy. Tell us about the book The Angels Among Us.
First of all, talk about patron saints. I’ve got one named John Cassimatides, but in a way, I’m looking at angels this way, which is angels are, of course, ethereal creatures that descend down from heaven. to help us and there’s a great saying in Hebrews that help out a stranger because you could really be an angel and I
did a lot of thinking about that for the follow-up book to miracles among us and I realized that God of course can decide that in addition to angels he can have humans doing angel like work John you do angel like work in the world and I as a physician do angel like work as best I can And
one of the great stories in the book is about Bill Rhodes, who was at 26 in Jerusalem studying the Old and New Testament and going on for a PhD. And his wife was there with him, and they were trying to decide what to do. And he thought, I’m not really making a difference here, though I like what
I’m studying. And on the road to Nazareth, he picks up a hitchhiker, a 19-year-old kid, two of them, but one of them Looks like he’s never shaved. He has long hair, and he looks kind of otherworldly. And Rhodes says to him, what are you doing? And the kid says, I’m looking to make a small bit of difference somewhere
in the world. And Rhodes, not a doctor, says... How are you doing that? And the kid says, I’m in medical school. So Rhodes, he does a right-hand turn. He decides this is some type of message from God, although he told me when I met him for coffee that he doesn’t interpret what God’s messages mean, just that he
doesn’t think that was true. just a coincidence. It was very meaningful. So he and his wife leave. They go back to the United States. He goes to medical school, goes to residency, becomes a surgeon, becomes a plastic surgeon, goes all the way back to Kenya then, becomes the head doctor at this hospital in Capsuar, takes care of
thousands of people over the years, burned victims, and was last year voted the most humanitarian physician in the world by the American College of Surgeons. And his coincidences, meaningful coincidences, continue. And again, this kid who he met on the road was an angel or a human performing angel-like work, to the theme of my book. In 1999, a kid comes
into his hospital clinic, and he can tell because he has a blown pupil and a cut on his head that he has a bleed on the outside of his brain. And he says to his wife, Laura, Rhodes says, I can’t fix that. I don’t know how to fix that.
This kid’s going to die instantly in walks Dr. Thompson, Cleve Thompson, who he’s never seen before. He’s heard of this guy, locally known, fame. Thompson knows how to handle it. He looks at the kid. He says, I can fix that.
He takes him into the operating room, opens up his head, fixes the bleed. The kid survives. And Rhodes says, what are the chances that this guy that I’ve never met walks into my clinic at exactly that moment? So that’s what my book is about. It’s about healing. It’s about miracles.
that are accumulations of coincidences, but most importantly, it’s about the people who guide them or the angels who guide them. Some of the chapters are about absolute, actual visitations by angels. Some are humans doing angel-like work.
Dr. Siegel, I believe that because it happens to me because my mom died in, oh my God, in April 1977. And ever since then, no matter what task came up in business, I felt that she was helping me. And whatever enemies I had that did wrong by me, something always happened to them. And I really felt that my mom,
from heaven, was watching down on me.
I believe you’re right, and I believe that you translate that beautiful energy into others. There’s a story in the book about Chris Smith, who goes on a first date from hell because there’s a stalker there. And the girl he dates, he doesn’t remember any of this, but the girl he dates, he brings her back to his place
and he makes a pizza. And the guy breaks in through the back door with a gun and he shoots both of them in the head. And he kills, tragically, his ex-girlfriend. But Chris Smith is lying on the floor.
And he’s bleeding. And his dog is there trying to scratch him awake. So he has scratches on his chest, which show this later on. But he’s just lying there. And then all of a sudden he gets a visit, a visitation. And he sees this young man. And the man says to him, I’m your father. And I died
when you were eight years old. You may not recognize me, but I died, he says, for this exact moment when I was going to come back and tell you that you are going to live. And I’m going to prove that I’m your father. When I was lying in the coffin, my best friend Brad put two marijuana cigarettes in my
right upper pocket, and the only person who knows about that besides him is your mom. When you wake up from this coma you’re in, ask your mom about that, and she’s going to break into tears. Two months later, he wakes up from a coma. There’s a bullet lodged in his brain. He wakes up from a coma, and
his mother breaks into tears and says, it’s an absolutely true story.
Oh, my God. Dr. Siegel, before I start crying, thank you for your book. Tell the audience about your book again.
The book is The Angels Among Us, and it’s about, I won’t get into it now, but I had these visitations that John is talking about from my own parents and from my father when he passed. His father came down.
I believe in symbols. I believe in this. I get into some stories that you’re going to know about, but the inside story of what happened to Ronald Reagan after he was shot, that’s in the book. The story of Bob Dylan’s conversion to Christianity, then back to Judaism, that’s in the book. The story like Chris Smith I just
told you, and maybe my favorite right now, is the story of Bill Wilson, who founded Alcoholics Anonymous because he was in a hospital in New York called Towns Hospital. That’s even before me and John were born. Towns Hospital for the fourth time for alcoholism. And he says, I don’t think I’m going to make it. I’m so depressed.
If there’s a God, let him come now. And the next thing you know, he’s standing on a cliff and a bright light comes down on him. And it was an angel from God. And And he says to his doctor, another one of his angels, he says, could this be real?
And the doctor says, I vetted you. This is real. This is not some hallucination from drugs or withdrawal. So Bill Wilson goes on to form— and his theory was based on the humility of being instructed by God, which is the humbleness, which is, he says— You don’t preach to fellow alcoholics. You do mana a mana. You talk to them,
and an alcoholic is the only one who can save another alcoholic.
Tell us the name of the book, Dr. Mark Siegel, and the name of the book again, and they can probably buy it on Amazon.
It’s in pre-orders right now on Amazon, FoxNews.com, Barnes & Noble. It’s The Angels Among Us. One of my angels is John Cassimatides.
God bless you, and we’ll catch up again real soon.
Thank you, John.
