Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning. What would be Sunday morning without Governor Pattison giving us some wise remarks and common sense. Governor Patterson, is Sunday morning again, What do you have to say this week?
Well, John, it’s November twenty fourth, we’re almost three weeks away from the election. And I before the election, and everybody said, the candidates said, we’ve got to work together as a country. We’ve got to respect each other’s opinion, We’ve got to do this, that and the other thing.
But I thought that since election, nice people have been more antagonistic than ever. Some of the people who supported the former president who will now be the future president, their anger toward the other side seemed to intensify even though he won. And not to be outdone, people who voted for Vice President Harris, they were talking about moving
to Canada, move in other countries.
Didn’t didn’t didn’t one of them didn’t. I forget her name. She moved to London.
Yeah, well that’s her pleasure. She should stay there, because that’s really not in my view the way you approach.
By the way generous Ellen de generous moved to London or something.
Yes, exactly, So you know, I think that for the rest of us who would like to believe that we have some common sense. She recognized that, hey, your team didn’t win this time. Now you go back and look at why maybe you didn’t win. So, for instance, in the case of Vice President Harris, I thought her campaign
let the Trump campaign run wild with the issues about the transgender surgeries and that kind of thing, and the commercials were very good, very effective. But I know that some research was done by Governor ed Rendell, the former governor of Pennsylvania, that in that time only four surgeries took place at the state of California or transgender people
and the cost was twenty four thousand dollars. Now that is not near the way it’s sounded in the Trump commercials. But the Trump uh, you know, the Trump promoters had a right to do that. Why didn’t Why weren’t they answered?
And then all the appearances that you know, weren’t maybe Alfredys Smith dinner. It was almost as if the Harris campaign thought they had already won and all they had to do was tread water, you know, on on. On the other side, of course, the president had some troupe, I mean alm with his nominee right now, but he
also had a problem with his candidate for attorney general. That it’s been remedied and they’re moving on. So I would think that they’re starting to calm down and starting to think more about governing than anything else, and I think the rest of us should do that. At the same time, I.
Agree with you one hundred percent that we should try to bring everybody together. And there are a lot of emotional people that don’t want to bring it together, and I don’t I don’t understand why, what do you think?
I think, unfortunately, John, the rhetoric, the acrimony, the antagonism has become embedded in the conscience of too many Americans right now. I’m not saying all Americans. I’m not saying, you know that it’s frome to one party or the other, but that we are not acting as as a nation and you know, showing respect for each other. I thought
it was good that the Vice president talked about a peaceful transition of power, which put aside any appeals or anything that she might bring. But I think really that this is even carrying over to just a mood that you feel it around New York City, you feel around a lot of places of frustration and anger, and I’m
not exactly sure where it’s coming from, other than the fact that people are suffering from an economy that has ballooned over the past few years. And now we’ll give this new president a chance to queller.
I pray that our country continues to do in the right direction. I don’t understand there was a rumor going around, and I don’t know if you heard it, that President Biden has been making a lot of decisions the last few days, and don’t you think that maybe you should let it let the new president take over in fifty five.
Days, particularly if it comes to foreign policy, and you know, potential threats of attack. You know, North Korea has threatened US, and even Putin had a few things to say or something like that in those situations. I think, you know, the reason why we have a break between the election and the inauguration used to be sometimes that the administrations
had to move, you know, from wherever the presidential candidate was to Washington and get themselves set up. This could be done in just a few days now. In fact, probably even both sides were prepared for what would happen if they were unsuccessful. And I think that in those particular periods. If the president is going to do anything
at all, I think there should be some consultation. Now, they did have a meeting that apparently they both enjoyed at the White House a few weeks ago, but I think an outgoing president should not leave any traps or difficult circumstances that were encumbered by the fact that he didn’t notify the President elect of the circumstances.
Agreed anything else you want to tell the American people. I mean on a Sunday morning, I mean, everybody’s everybody’s sitting down, having me a cup of coffee, and well, thinking about.
That, and there was a sad moment for me, as you know, Friday, I went out to Henstead, Long Island, where I grew up, and did a lot of events out there and promoting some other businesses that I’m involved in.
And I kept thinking, boy, when I grew up around here, it’s Friday before Thanksgiving. Something happened on a Friday before Thanksgiving. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. This past Friday, November twenty second, sixty one years before.
So November twenty second, nineteen sixty three is when we lost our thirty fifth President John F. Kennedy to an assassination attempt. But that assassination and that was a very glum period at that particular time. So I’m just hoping that all of our leaders remain safe and that we have a happy Thanksgiving and that we recognize how much
we owe to our God above.
Happy Thanksgiving, David, Governor, David Patterson, and I look forward to breaking bread together again real soon.
Take care, John,
