Speaker 1 Sunday morning with us. Is Governor David Patterson a good friend and a common sense individual, And we had a long week. Governor, And there’s a new sheriff in town. Worldwide, tell us how you feel and what do you think your reaction is your compatriot’s reaction, and how do we save the world.

Speaker 2 Well, there’s a new sheriff in town, and he’s an old sheriff. He served from twenty sixteen to twenty twenty. And I think when somebody wins an election that you’ve got to pledge support to them, even if you didn’t vote for them, even if you disagree with them most of the time. And that’s how I feel that he

now has from twenty twenty four to twenty eight to kind of decide how he fares in terms of, you know, the rest of the life and what type of leadership he’ll bring to the country. But what really surprised me, and I don’t often quote Bernie Sanders, but he said, of President Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, that the

Democrats kept ignoring the working people, and now the working people are ignoring them. How could she manage to lose every state to the numbers that Joe Biden put up in twenty twenty. This campaign never understood something that I learned my first day as governor, because she became a candidate very quickly. Didn’t know what was going to happen.

Saturday night, she’s one thing, the next night she’s a candidate. I woke up one morning as lieutenant governor, went to alb and he got a phone call. Next thing I know, I’m governor. But what I knew is when you’re in that kind of situation, you have got to move around and touch everybody. Everybody wants to talk to you. Everybody

wants to get a glimpse, and to sit around and not have any press conferences, not go to major events such as the ALFREDY Smith dinner in New York, not give any interviews that you had any real, you know, retaliation by the reporter to what she said. That’s what opened the door. And I think that you could actually

feel it coming that she had a real opportunity. She did very well on the debate against President Trump, but he had an off night and she took full advantage of it. And then it’s as if she walked around thinking, well, that’s all I have to do. He’s nobody I’ll win, And it was totally the opposite.

Speaker 1 Now, the how is a democratic party feeling? Hey, how does it go forward? Do you think is the leadership going to be the Obamas? Is the leadership going to be? Is Kamala going to try to be the leadership? You have any pults on the situation.

Speaker 2 Yet, I’m looking for somebody who isn’t particularly obvious. You know, I don’t think that a party should have to rely on the grandparents and the great grandparents to bring leadership. What I would say is some of the things President Obama did when he ran for president were some of the activities I thought she would engage in, and she

just didn’t seem to want to do it. And what I think that the party will recognize is that we’ve got to kind of tear up all the information that we have now and start going out and start listening to the people, hearing what they’re saying, as opposed to sort of lecturing, which I think the party’s gotten into

too often. I think there’s been too many of these so called consultants who assess, for instance, that she’s going to get all the black folk because she’s black I mean, that’s really, well.

Speaker 1 Really Asian American, and her father was from Jamaica, who you know might be British Caribbean black and that’s not black.

Speaker 2 Black, well, whatever it is, whatever it is, just it’s just that you can’t always categorize people. And I think too many Democratic consultants did that, and when trouble, you know, came, they didn’t seem to, you know, really pay that much attention to it. And you know, in terms of what happened in the Swing States, I think the problem was

that she wasn’t there enough and was not really I mean when she gave her session speech, which I would have given the same night because all of your people followed you and literally gave all their energy to you.

She gave it the next afternoon. But it didn’t even sound like a concession speech. It sounded like a graduation speech at Howard. And again it’s like naming topics, like we want to solve the problems of tomorrow. I heard her say that, well, finding a cure for cancer, that’s one of the problems of tomorrow. But that’s not exactly

what she’s talking about when she says that if you’re going to mention these broad categories. You have to demonstrate some substantive understanding of the way government is running now in the way you want to change it. And when people hear you say that, they are quite clear that you know what you’re talking about. I think she’s a

very intelligent woman, but there’s such a communication problem that when she tries to address these issues, it just doesn’t register with the public. And I think that this is something, you know, that hopefully she will reconsider she goes on with her life, and this is but meanwhile, we’ve got a whole new situation. President Trump is coming back to

do about New York and the MTA. You know, what’s he going to do about Israel wanting to go further into the war. I think he’ll allow it. I think that would be the right choice. And so I’m trying to, you know, adjust as you should to all situations, and tip your hat to your opponent and say, how can

I help understood?

Speaker 1 So there’s no clear path to leadership. The head of the Democratic Natural Committees who right now?

Speaker 2 The head of the Democratic names you used to be, Yeah, right now, I think that they will be reconvening. I don’t even know who it is right now.

Speaker 1 I don’t either. It used to be Perez, and Perez has taken over running the White House or something.

Speaker 2 Right, Well, that won’t be a long job.

Speaker 1 Understood, Jamie Harrison has Jamie Harrison, I don’t know the right? Right? What else do you want to tell the American people? And what do you want to tell there’s there’s millions of people listening to you right now. What do you want to tell them? I pray that there’s peace between common sense Democrats and common sense Republicans and common sense independents,

and we want the best for America. And that’s what I pray for.

Speaker 2 Well, I saw a text, you know, these groups of people the text each other all day, and this one said America was found on the principle that everybody is equal and everybody gets an opportunity. And now these Democrats have got to learn that. It was kind of a nasty statement about transgendered people. And what I thought was

this person clearly voted for now President elect Trump. Why did he take the time out to start trashing other people and then making a statement about how the country was founded that was wrong. This country was founded with slavery being a chosen advocation for people and to say everybody was equal is a farce. Similarly, I’ve heard people

say things like there’s a couple I know they’re so angry. They said they’re going to Toronto to look for a home and people who are more evolved than they are in the United States, Well, go on and do that for yourself. But again, trashing a process as opposed to really trying to find workable, sensible ways to make our

country better again. And I think that we have to try and get behind the leadership of the country right now, and obviously there’ll be disagreements. The president has an immense opportunity because he has a House and Senate presumably behind him, and the Supreme Court. I don’t think any president’s ever had that kind of power, and I hope he uses

it judiciously, and if he does, we might just look up in a couple of years and say, you know, things aren’t really that bad. But you know, it remains to be seen whether or not that happens. But I don’t like these people who jump out in front to try to start fights where the fighting is supposed to

be over. The election was held, the Vice President committed herself to a peaceful transfer of power and we should do the same.

Speaker 1 I agree with you, Governor David Patterson. Thank you for your input, thank you for your love of of our country. And we’re in the world and we’ll catch up again real.

Speaker 2 Soon next Sunday, I hope. Take care.
