Speaker 1 Sunday morning, fourth of July weekend. Well with us today, like every Sunday, is Governor David Patterson and Governor David Pattison Phillison. What the heck is going on with this mayoral election.

Speaker 2 Well, it’s almost a week ago. But last Tuesday, you know, with the ranked choice voting applied to the votes that were conducted at the polls, Zorn Macdon Mamdani Zoron Mandani, the assembly of them from Queens was the winner. He was declared the winner. He’d received fifty six percent of the vote. Andrew Como received forty four percent of the vote.

All the other candidates were kicked out if they didn’t have at least fifteen percent of the vote, So it at least in that primary it was a two person race and Mandanni won. But we have a general election filled with other candidates that would like come in, starting with the man who serves as mayor right now, Eric Adams.

He would like to run as an independent. He also will have some company because Andrew Cromo, even though he lost the primary, will have a line for his own independent candidacy. And this is creating an interesting situation where different people are getting letters or calls and being asked to step aside so that they wouldn’t have Mundani against

three other candidates who would possibly win, those being Curtis Sliwa running on the Republican line, and as I said before, Andrew Cromo or running on an independent line. And so when you add all this together, it’s going to be an interesting a few months here. But what I will say is that the support that Bundanni is receiving and

they can continuation of it, the number of people he’s registering, the number of people go to his rallies, and that kind of thing. If I blinked my eye twenty years ten years ago, there was another person who was able to do that, and his name is Donald Trump, whose political ideology is the polar opposite of what Zorn Mundanis

might be. But it is demonstrating a kind of a new campaign style where you speak as verbosely as possible, where you demean your opponents as much as you can. And Donald Trump invented this. He made some really gross and vicious remarks about the service of John McCain when he was in the military. But Trump somehow turns that

into a situation where a lot of people supported him, and I don’t know to what extent Mondannie’s going to attack his opponents in this general election, but it gives him a real plurality. Now that’s going to be hard to beat. I didn’t think this until just a few just a few days ago, but he’s going to be

a difficult candidate to be.

Speaker 1 Now, shouldn’t we do a poll? Maybe we should do a poll between the three main candidates. Uh, Kurtisli Wall is a main candidate. He’s got a Republican nomination. Uh. And Uh Cuomo Uh and Eric Adams. I mean, I think everybody else is even if they’re in there there, how do you say irrelevant?

Speaker 2 So what you’re saying is thered be a poll between the three other candidates to find out which one is most equipped to meet Mandani and then try to get the other two out. So it could be a one on one race, which would really give whoever that candidate is a very good chance to win. Yes, wow, very interesting.

Speaker 1 Because candidates everybody else is irrelevant. It’s like one, you know, everybody else is one per centators.

Speaker 2 Oh yes, exactly. And what’s interesting about that is that it would certainly eliminate the situation that’s going on right now, where you know people are just one day everyone’s writing a letter to Cornwall to tell him to get out for Adams. The next day people are writing to Adams and tell him to get out because he’s only gonna get.

Speaker 1 It’s a zoom. Let’s do an independent poll now. One more thing, Governor. Uh. The other problem we have is where are they? Where are the Democratic leadership? Where is Governor Hokel, Where is Senator Schumer? Where are you? Where’s the leadership of Democratic Party? Are they going to go along because uh the z man is uh a Democrat?

Or are they gonna uh, they’re gonna stay silent? Aris Adams is really a Democrat all his life and and Clomo is really a Democrat all his life.

Speaker 2 Well, what’s interesting about that, John, is that I think that a number of Democratic officials, county leaders right after Mamdanie one, they gave him their support, and he’s picked up a lot of support over the last two weeks now, And if either the governor or Senator Schumer or who else wants to weigh in on this, I would suggest

that they would have to do it now because you let listen, you get somebody, Let somebody get up ahead of steam, and they could be very hard to catch. So I think that that’s.

Speaker 1 An Have you made a decision yet of who you endorsing, Well.

Speaker 2 Right now, my endorsement in the primary was for Andrew Cuomo, and I don’t want to be somebody.

Speaker 1 My endorsement in the primary was Andrew Cuomo. Two.

Speaker 2 Yeah, I don’t want to jump ship, but you know why don’t we?

Speaker 1 Maybe it was should wait for the pole and see who has the betest chance against the zoro.

Speaker 2 Not a bad idea, not a bad idea.

Speaker 1 Governor David Patterson, thank you for coming on. I hope you have a great, a great great great u uh fourth and jly weekend.

Speaker 2 Well, it’s been a good weekend so far. We got one more day to go and we’ve had a nice time. And tomorrow I’ll be back to work.

Speaker 1 God bless you, God bless America.
