Automated transcript · uncorrectedWell, Long Island, Well, what’s happening with the whales? What’s happening with the fisheries? With us today, is Bonnie Brady, then you give us an update, Bonnie, fourth of July weekend. What the heck is going on? Is Long Island going to survive? Hi?
John, thank you so much for having me. Well, we are hoping to protect our coast New Jersey Clean Ocean Action Act for whales and other plaintiffs, including the Long Island Commercial Fishing Association. We’re hoping for some fireworks of our own because we are hoping to serve all of the plaintiffs on our lawsuit by today, and then we
are additionally trying to get a temporary restraining order or an injunction to stop the project while they go over the case directly. Plus I had mentioned that there are some documents that were found, so our association is in the process, the fishing associations, the process of trying to find counsel to be able to additionally bring to the
President’s attention and also to the judge the fact that the presidential moratorium was not paid attention to during the month of February and April. So that’s on the cooker too. And let’s see, I think we’ve got since pile driving started.
We have three dead whales in and around the area of Empire Wind. One was seen a humpback eight miles northeast of the project. We had another dead humpback that landed on a beach in LBI and a third that pictures were taken of it within Cholera Banks, which is right in the middle of the project.
That tell our audience what Bobby Kennedy told us, the Secretary Kennedy about how many average whales usually die a year, and since they’re doing the drilling and doing installations of the windmills, what’s going on now?
Well, the Secretary was talking specifically about when the unusual mortality event occurred for humpbacks. They did a presser in twenty seventeen and they went retroactive to twenty sixteen. Prior to the initiation of the unusual mortality event, there had been from Maine to Virginia one point four humpback ship strikes per year, and the first year of the UME
they had ten. And the UMME conveniently just happens to happen when they started doing the survey work because we had in some cases up to ten boats going up and down surveying the ocean floor using low frequency, high decibel sound that is capable of temporarily or permanently deafening whales.
And that’s what’s happening. When they deafened the whales with that technology, the whales come up death, up to the up to the top of the water, and they don’t see the ships coming and you get hit.
Well, I mean, that’s our hypothesis. Unfortunately, the federal government back in Oh Gosh, in January of twenty twenty three, we sent a letter from our association with several other groups requesting and full investigation into this problem. They had I think twelve dead whales in like two months. We heard bub kiss there’s no EU.
Yeah, well that was a previous administration. That was President Biden’s administration. That was you know, they weren’t a money business. I personally spoke to President Trump and he says he hates windmills.
Well that’s that’s heartening. But we really need to be able to have the opportunity to speak to the president to talk about all of these issues, to see if his administration can fix this problem that’s been going on since twenty sixteen for humpbacks and since twenty seventeen for the North Atlantic right whale and minky whales.
Well, the problem the people of the of Long Island. Eventually the electricity that they can to generate, it’s going to be triple the cost of what they’re paying now, at least.
Right right, four to six times more expensive. That doesn’t include the transmission costs. And don’t worry because in addition to win, all of these tasty packages usually come with giant battery centers lithium ion batteries similar to the kind that caught fire and moss landing in California and burned for five days. I mean, is Bonnie.
Monney list, Bonnie, keep telling the people of Long Island what the heck is going on, and the truth shall prevail. Have a happy with the July weekend and we’ll catch up with you again real soon.
Thank you so much to do the same
