Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday Morning with US as former police Commissioner rig Kelly, I spent forty years with the NYPD, twelve or fourteen years as commissioner commissioner. There’s so many things going on in our city, and we both love our city. Give us an update what you hear about what’s going on with the NYPD. There’s a lot of turmoil and also
the gangs. The gangs have infiltrated in New York and there’s a lot of problems.
Yeah. Yeah, there’s a lot of disway in the NYPD. Unfortunately, we see people’s phones being taken. Obviously, the police commission itself is necessary to the resign. We don’t have the whole picture. I don’t have the whole picture, but it’s of concern because it actually makes the cops feel, you know, that they’re they’re not supported or what should we do.
I’m not going to do my job the way affairs because of you know, the bosses aren’t there. That kind of thinking, uh, starts to permeate the department. So it’s unfortunate, and I think there’s obviously more to come. The US Attorney has certainly focused on the Adams administration and apparently that includes a case involving the you know, the police department,
the commissioner, and the commission of the prosence. So it’s an uneasy time. Pops will do their job. It is do their job, but they just say, I think it’s a different feeling as a result of what we’ve being with these investigations. As far as the gangs are concerned, well, we’ve always had a gang issue in New York, but
the gangs that we’re talking about now, the ones that have come in here with this invasion of our southwest border, it’s a sort of a bit of a different ilk. This gang that’s getting over published is this Trim Day Aragua formed in a Venezuelan prison in twenty eighteen, or they may have gone earlier, been found earlier than that in
Venezuela itself. When they left the prison which they apparently ran, they terrorized a lot of South America, Columbia, Peru, Ecuador, and then with the with the open border that we have, they started to come into the US in twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two, and they sort of settled in al Paseo in Denver and Chicago, and they really wrecked the
havoc in those places, and then about a year ago we see them surfacing in New York. Now why are we concerned about them? Well, they’re particularly issues. They’re noted for their willingness divert it and rob They use mopeds to commit crimes, and they sell a very dangerous narchotic.
It is in general, but they call it tink cocaine. On their headquarters here in New York seems to be the tent in Reyndalls Island, and you know New York City cops and not go into those tents. They’re prohibited from going into those tents unless there’s a nine to one one call. But that is a policy that is
being followed. Now we’re still learning about them. We don’t know their size, we don’t know some of their practices because they’re pretty secretive and there’s no records check able to be done with Venezuela. You know, no country has the databations that we have, and certainly Venezuela is not cooperating with the years the United States. So these individuals
that can be as young as fifteen, they have some pretty intricate tattoos is that they wear and you’ve seen the area on Roosevelt Avenue in Queen. Now that’s been a problematic for a while, but it’s kind of turned into an open air brother and drug market. Now this that trend day Regula is involved in some of that.
They shot two cops in by name a Mantha shot two cops last June. It is something strange about the number twenty three. If somehow motivates, then they get tattoos with twenty three on it, and they have pictures of Michael Jordan, whose number was twenty three when he played Lebron James. That sort of thing.
Yeah, it’s they’re exceptionally dangerous as the NYPD. I mean, you’re carrying capital capital pistols compared to what these guys are carrying.
Yeah, but here’s one of the challenges for the NYPD. In the Boomberg administration, we had problems with gangs. We doubled the gang Division, we put lawyers in each of the gang division units, that sort of thing, and its the problems in a very significant way. However, the problem in NYPD now is personnel. They can’t hire enough people
to do to backfill the people that are leaving, so they’re still experiencing this hemorrhaging, and I think what has to be done is a task force, a task force with the NYPD and involving the FBI. Now I is sort of out of the game in New York City because of the sanctuary laws, which by the way, I
think make New York City unsafe. But they’re not going to change it looks like anytime soon. So a task was to the NYPD and the FBI. Say the FBI because I think they have uh interstate activity and a part of this particular gang, and would give them jurisdiction. Uh.
You know you asked about about Haiti. You know, there is a parole system that is in place. You know, these flights that are coming in at three o’clock in the morning in different cities as a result of the parole system that allows citizens of Haiti, of Venezuela, of Cuba, Nicaragua to get special vis It’s called a parole program.
And this has been pushed.
By to come to the United States.
That’s right, Oh my gosh.
In other words, we’re taking their paroles.
No, it’s the program is called parole. But that’s what happened in Springfield, Ohio. That’s how those people got there. Because they’re from Haiti, and they give Haitians special status because the assumption is that obviously there’s no government there that they’re being they’re being persecuted and therefore, so.
This administration is he came up with the program called parole, so the people getting out of jail in Haiti and those other countries, in Nicaragua and the other countries you mentioned can can get paroled into the United States.
Yeah, it’s not actually paro. That’s a term that the US in the federal government. It’s different than the barole that we use in the local government. And these are not prisoners. These are people who you can apply on an app and you meet certain criteria, but you come in and you have legal status in the US. You know,
people who are.
So legal status being uh legal status, can they vote too.
Well, it depends on our locality. That’s the weather that you can go. Because elections are controlled by you know, local government, state state government. That’s basically in the in the constitution. So that will certainly be and is a move in certain jurisdictions right now, because let’s face it, that is the overall goal of open borders to get
additional voters into the count.
Yeah, the mission. I pray for our country.
Hey, John, I’m right with you. I’m concerned two beautiful little grandchildren that I’m very much concerned about.
Yes, and me and me and you will be okay.
Certain time, me and you are.
Going to be okay. We worry about our kids and grandkids.
Exactly, exactly. That’s it’s a very strange time.
Commissioner Kelly, Thank you for coming on. Thank you for telling the American people the truth. And people love you and respect you, and and uh, let’s hope we go back to the United States of America we once know.
Yeah, I sure hope, so, John, And thank you for everything you’re doing every day.
Thank you so much.
