Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning, what’s going on in Canada. Canada is our closest neighbor our ally forever and what is today is Premier Doug Ford from the Province of Ontario, and maybe we’ll get some answers because there are ally. Premiere Ford, tell us, how do you feel the meetings went on with mister Trudeau, the Prime Minister Trudeau in President Trump, etc.
And what else is going on to make life better for the American people.
Well, John, first of all, thanks so much for having me on and you’re one hundred percent right. We’re the closest ally closest friend for generations and it’s going to continue that way. As for the meeting between the Prime Minister and President elect, I thought it was good that they were able to get together. I thought it was
great that he was the first leader that to come down and visit President elect Trump. And hopefully we can avoid any tariffs, because what happens, John, it just hurts both sides of the border. Canada ships in one point three trillion dollars back and forth of two way trade and we do more trade than China, Japan, UK and
France combined. And my message to the President is we’re stronger together. When we see the tariffs coming in from China saying they’re going to tariff, and they’re not even tariff, they’re going to cut off all critical minerals to the US.
There’s one place in the world that has the largest mining sector in the world, over forty two critical minerals that everyone wants, and I’m not going to give them to anyone, but there’s one country I will get them to, and that’s the United States. I absolutely love our American neighbors.
Spent twenty years my life Cargo and New Jersey and just the greatest people on earth.
Now, can you tell the American people, because you know, they hear it on television, they hear it on radio, but they don’t really know what President Trump was was worried about with Canada. They knew about Mexico, they knew about all the border crossings and all the problems there.
What was the problems with Canada that President Trump uh was concerned about.
Well, he was concerned regarding the border. I agree with the President. I mentioned it to the Prime Minister. But it’s both ways, you know, no matter if it’s drugs coming across the border, either way or if it’s illegal guns coming across the border or illegal people, that’s one too many. And we have to pick up our borders
along with our partners. So for the border, and I know our Canadian Border Service Agency is working hand in hand with your border patrol folks, and we just have to tighten it up. And you know, we share the same values, same same lifestyles, and we just want to make sure that we have a fortress can m meaning
you know, at the end of the day, and hopefully all heck doesn’t break loose. But it’s always Canada and the US standing shoulder to shoulder, supporting each other.
Understood. And so President Trump was concerned that the borders were more porous than they should be, that Canada wasn’t watching them, or we weren’t watching him.
I think that’s what he was he was mentioning. But I have reassurance from the Prime Minister that we’re going to beef up the border patrols. We’re going to make sure we utilize every tool in our toolbox via helicopters, boats, anything that are connecting our borders and make sure on both sides of the border we have a secure border.
We aren’t worried about Americans or Canadians crossing the border, because millions do on both sides of the borders. There’s nine hundred thousand Americans that live live here in Canada, another eight hundred thousand live in the US. And you know, the trade second to none. Ontario Loan does five hundred billion dollars a two way trade with the US, where
the number one trading partner is seventeen states, meaning where their number one export destination and number two to eleve and others. And I think that’s great. The more parts that are going back and forth. We say, nine million Americans wake up every morning to produce products for Ontario Alan and that’s a good thing. We welcome that.
So during the Trudeau Trump meeting that everybody agreed to everything, and you feel things are going forward correctly, Well I can’t.
I wasn’t at the so I can’t really comment. And you know, as long as they got together, they put their differences on the table and we can sort that, sort that out. But you know, the real problem, John, right now is China and Mexico. You know, I think Mexico has to make a decision do they support and
stand with Beijing? Or do they support and stand with Washington. I can tell you what our answer. It is as one hundred percent of Washington. And what’s happening is they’re shipping in cheap Chinese made parts in the Mexico, Mexico slapping and made in Mexico sticker on, shipping it up through the US and in the Canada, and it’s costing
American and Canadian jobs. This is where we need to stick together. That’s the real problem understood.
And your province, Premiere Ontario is doing so very well. We spoke about it last time you were with us. Give us an update. You’re very big on energy and you’re also going into small modular reactors and yeah, give us enough.
Yeah, well the energy again. We ship energy down to New York, We ship it down to Michigan. We keep the factories open. Their Toubac ships a lot of energy to New York is as well. We have ample energy where leaders and nuclear energy, clean green, reliable energy. The largest nuclear plant in the world. But we’re going to
build onto that. And who needs our energy but our greatest allies and friends south of the border. And we’ll make sure we have enough energy to serve both sides of the border. So in the small modular reactors or leading the world on these small modular reactors and if people aren’t familiar familiar with them, I describe it this way, John,
A small modular reactor can be any size, but typically the size of a wal Mart, and it can power a town of approximately four hundred thousand people. And it’s just a really great technology that we’re moving forward with.
I know we have on order about one hundred billion dollars for Poland we’re ready to ship any small modular reactors into the US if they need them, and we’re going to need energy and we have it along with the critical minerals, and we just want to make sure Americans and Canadians are prosperous. And again we’re so much
stronger together and against the rest of the world. Too close as our allies than that way for generations and it’s hopefully it’s going to continue being that way for many generations to come.
Absolutely tell us also, what are the categories we talked about the nuclear reactors, automobiles. You are big in the automobile factors for Alberta. Alberta, I mean I said that again Ontario.
That’s all right, No, but let me talk about Alberta before I get in the auto.
Tell us about it.
When it comes to energy, they ship four point three million barrels a day down to the US. Sixty percent of energy that’s imported outside of the US comes from Canada, and we love it. I can’t wait until the President gets the pipeline going that will even increase capacity to lower gas prices, make energy a lot more affordable than
what it is now. And that’s the plan now. When it comes to Ontario and the auto sector, we’re a large auto manufacturer, but we we ship in as many cars as we ship out to the US, and parts for the auto manufacturer has been crossed the border back and forth eight times before it gets assembled in a plant,
for instance, in Michigan or plant in Ontario. And the reason we can’t have terraffs. Here’s a good example. Say someone in Texas wants to buy a pickup truck that is produced and manufactured outside of Toronto and typically without the teriffs the six two thousand dollars. If the President puts tariffs on these trucks, then now he’s spending seventy
five thousand dollars opposed to sixty thousand. So the tariffs do nothing but hurt you know, hard working Americans, hard working Canadians, and there’s no reason for him. The trade is split pretty well right down the center.
Understood, we have about a minute left. Anything else you wants to call the American people.
I love him. I spent twenty years of my life down in our Chicago, New Jersey facility. I’m the number one promoter for the US. I always say for a non American, I’m the number one salesperson for the US.
I love them. Let’s stick together, let’s get through this and let’s take on the world unstoppable when we’ll work together. Well, I just want to say, God bless America.
God bless oil of America North you know, Canada and the United States. So we’re in We’re both in America. Well, Premier Doug Ford of the great Province of Ontario, thank you so much for everything you do. God bless you, God bless America, and may we all have a great Christmas and a great New Year. Thank you so much.
Absolutely, thanks so much. Sean, you take care. Thank you
