Speaker 1 Sunday morning. Well, this is borough President of Staten Island, Vito Foricella, and so many things are happening in our city, and there’s a transition going on. President Trump is going to be president in January twentieth. Veto how are things turning around in the city versus if Harris would have won.

Speaker 2 Oh, I think it’s night and day. Frankly, so many of us are very happy that President Trump won. I think so many of his appointees demonstrate that he wants to truly change and transform the way our federal government works.

And I think it’s for the better. As somebody who spent twelve years in Congress, privileged to represent the people of Staten Island, Brooklyn, you know, what happens is that the federal government gets slow and gets in the way of so many things, so much progress. And President Trump is really hit the ground running with some of these

very powerful appointees who are going to say enough is enough, the status quot doesn’t work in which we were going to get America back on track. So uh, you know, and if you start looking at just think about what could have been. Oh my goodness, I don’t want to This is a nice this is a nice Christmas president

knowing that President Trump is in the White House or we’ll be in the White House soon enough.

Speaker 1 Now, the additional challenges that President Trump has uh, he has said, uh, there’s no such thing as sanctuary city. That it isn’t as if, uh that we don’t want to help people that are in need. But under the last four years, it was just nonsense. Every everybody was coming in, there were flying people in. It was it

was just nonsense. Uh, how do we save our inner cities? And how is Eric Adams and or other in the cities going to help the situation? Are they going to cooperate with the federal government on that.

Speaker 2 Well, the first part we start with is just enforced the law. Right. We had a party, a group of people who pretended that there was no border, there was no law. And to add insult to injury, as millions came across the southern border and if you remember, with the straight face, they said the border is secure, there

is no problem. And then New York City and others said, hey, if you come to New York, we’re going to put you up in a hotel and feed you indefinitely. And when we raised the issue then hey, how is this sustainable?

We were told, you know, shut up, and at that time it was about a half a billion dollars. Now we know that the migrant crisis has cossed New York City billions and billions of dollars with no end in sight.

And furthermore, you have as a group of legislators who want to now make it more difficult for New York State New York City to deport migrant criminals and gang members by preventing police officers and others to communicate with ICE.

I mean, it’s insane. Nobody got the memo on election to day that the people of this country were fed.

Speaker 1 Up that insane veto That is insane. You know. It isn’t as if you’re deporting everybody. Let’s deport the criminals at least first you’re leaving them. Don’t you think maybe we should take a page in the New York Post and put down all the ones that are pushing to keep criminals in New York.

Speaker 2 I don’t I think that’s a good place to start, John uh. And the trouble is that I think more than half of the state senator’s already sponsoring this piece of legislation, and you have to his credit to mayors at least the New York City has publicly said he wants to cooperate, which is the smart and the right

thing to do. And meanwhile, you have mayre’s in other parts of the country. You were saying, we’re gonna we’re gonna double down. You know, we’re stuck in the mud here and we’re gonna fight the federal government when they come and try to deport criminals and gang members. And what planet are we living on. It’s just totally insane,

and it really takes away from the common sense process of just doing the right thing, and moreover hurts hard working taxpayers who are just trying to go about their lives. You have to raise their families and do what’s right for everybody else around them. And then there’s a group that say, come on in, we’ll take care of you.

If you commit a crime, we’re gonna make it more difficult to deport you. I mean, what world are we living in?

Speaker 1 And if you commit a crime, you don’t go to jail and we won’t deport you. I mean, this is pure insanity. This is the insanity of the previous four years. The American people voted for Donald Trump. They don’t want any.

Speaker 2 More sanity, and that’s why the cavalry has arrived, right, I mean, this is what’s gonna happen. Uh. And I put my stock and my money and my chips are on Donald Trump as he tries to right the wrong over the last four years. And there are those who are going to be resistant, and there those are going

to fight, and so be it. But I just hope that the goodness prevails and common sense prevails. And we’re not talking about some hypothetical, right, John. We know that migrants beat cops up in Times Square and got away with it. We know tragically that migrants killed an innocent young girl who had a whole life ahead of her.

And that’s what’s been happening and will continue to happen unless we take a stand and say enough is enough and put the hard working people of this state and country first.

Speaker 1 Understood, And I agree with you the other two issues you had about non citizens voting, you had a little suiting for the time, and you also had another issue on geez, I’m starting to lose it on a Sunday morning.

Tell us about the voting.

Speaker 2 First, Well, if you remember back in twenty twenty one, the New York City Council allowed legislations to pass that would allow non citizens the right to vote municipal elections. And the first action, official action I took when I assumed offices or a president, was to sue the city to say, you know, the state constitution doesn’t allow this.

It’s nothing in the state constitution that allows non citizens the right to vote. And that was the short picture, right, sort of the small picture, and we won in the trial court. We wanted the appellate division, and the city continues to appeal what I think is a boneheaded decision, but they’re good appeal and it goes to the Court

of Appeals early in twenty twenty five, and I hope that the Court of Appeals affirms and says once again that there’s nothing in the state constitution that allows non citizens the right to vote. Now, the big picture is this, Let’s suppose that that law was allowed to stand, all these tens of thousands of migrants, frankly, would be allowed

to vote. They would be allowed to vote in local elections. We have a close city council election, if you have a close mayor election, and you have twenty thousand and fifty thousand migrants who are allowed to vote that could tip the scale of an election. How is that right?

So so far, you know with two and zero, we hope we go three and oh if the Court of Appeals of firms the lower course decisions, and you know, separated apart from that, we were successful at the trial court to tackle this whole concept of right to shelter, where they’re so called if you come from anywhere around

the world, you get a free hotel, and we said there is no such law, there is no such thing in the state constitution, and we won that at the trial court as well. So we’re constantly fighting against policies that lack common sense. But that’s our job and we’re going to continue to do what we need to do

for the people, whether Statenyle in New York or the other parts of the country as we saw recently, and it doesn’t stop at the government. A small business owner, a bakery. Right, people get on national television as a bully pulpit, but they’re bullies and they just beat people up who did nothing wrong. So we fought against that

as well. But it’s part of the Gigan’s part of the job, and we’re going to continue to do what we need to do. And I just thank you, John for giving us a platform to speak out when the powers that be just tell us to shut up.

Speaker 1 Well, Vito Forcella Borough, President of Staten Island, the great Staten Island, thank you for what you’re doing. And God bless you, God bless America and let’s bring back all in New York.

Speaker 2 Well, I’m very optimistic John that this country’s best days are ahead with the people are great right leadership, President Trump and the White House, people like you giving us the opportunity to speak out. So God was you, Margo, the entire family, and looking forward to a great Christmas season.

Speaker 1 Merry Christmas and happy New Year. Thank you so much. God b
