Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning, a few days before Christmas, and we have a surprise for our WABC listeners. We have on Cala bascarn and her dad was herb Oscar Anderson, who was on WABC forever. Well, Cola sing this his song that he used to go on every morning.
Well, I’m not sure if I know it all, but it went like, hello again, here’s my best to you.
Are your skies all gray?
I’ll make them blue? Wow? Me sing my song for you or blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Oh call you, thank you? And I understand your dad, I’m sorry. He passed away a few years ago in twenty seventeen, was it? And your mom is still alive? And does she want to say hello to me? Audience?
Yes, say hello mom, Hello, This is Terry.
Terry. Can you sing too well?
Not really very well. I’m too old.
I let Carla do the singing. Well.
My dad could sing right up to the bitter end. And he kept saying to my mom every time he did a show. He said, Terry, you have to tell me if I’m starting to sound like an old man.
I don’t want to go on the radio. And I don’t want to entertain anymore. And I can honestly say, for a man who used to smoke three packs of cigarettes a day, that never happened. He always had his voice right up to the end of his life.
Well, I got to tell you something. I’m going to tell you a secret. I used to listen to your dad when I was growing up, and I remember that song like it was yesterday.
Well, you know, I’m just going to tell you a little story. So my brother is John James. Anybody who watched Dinah, he played Jeff Colby And usually when I’m with my brother John, we went out to a restaurant in a little town I live in Husick Falls, New York, which is the population three thousand, and we were having
dinner and I see this man sort of eyeing us in a strange way, and I thought, oh great, Well, you know somebody’s going to come up and ask for an autograph. Yeah. Well, this gentleman walked up and he went right to my mother and he said, can I thank you? And my mom said, well, why do you
want to thank me? He said, you know what, I listened to your husband every morning. And I was new to New York City, I was alone. I had no people in my life, and I would drive to Long Islyland to teach school, and your father every morning would say, if no one has said it as yet, may I
be the first good morning? And he said, I remember that. And this man is in his seventies and he came up and he just wanted to thank my mom just for somebody including him every day. And so, yes, I think my father was a very simple man. He was very honest in who he was. He had no you know,
comedy or routine. He was just a very down to earth man. And he gave one hundred percent to his listeners and that was his most important thing, was his listening.
In the years he was on, he was on in the nineteen sixties.
On WABC, he was on from nineteen sixty. So I was born in October, so he started in December of nineteen sixty and went into nineteen sixty nine.
Wow, those are great years. I was in Brooklyn Tech High School then and I was in NYU Uptown campus and yeah, well, I want you to I want you to say thank you on a Sunday morning, because it’s a Sunday morning, and I have tears in my eyes from those days and I look forward to talking to
you again.
Well, I would like to wish every single one of your listeners a very merry Christmas and a very healthy and happy New Year, and good morning on Sunday.
Thank you, thank you so much, and can you finish you off for the last ten seconds with the song.
Oh oh well hello again, here’s my best to you. Are your skies all gray? I hope they’re blue?
Well, thank you, thank you, thank your mom too, and your dad is always going to be remembered on WABC. And well, next year when we have the awards, we want to put them in a WABC Hall of Fame.
Well, that would be lovely, That would be lovely. It would he would be very happy about that. But thank you for your time. I appreciate everything, and oh my best to you.
Thank you so much.
