Speaker 1 Sunday Morning with this, like every Sunday, Governor David Pattison on what’s going on in our state city world. Well, Governor, looks like there was a mayoral debate on Thursday night. I’m really interested in your opinion on that mayoral debate because that’s the future of New York City.

Speaker 2 Well, John first, for full disclosure. Earlier in the week, the New York County Leader Keith Wright and I decided to endorse Andrew Cormol from mayor. Now, that didn’t go over very well in the Adams family. Eric Adams was our candidate in twenty twenty one, and we’re friends of Erics and we support Eric, but in a Democratic primary,

the types of answers that Eric is giving the questions right now, I just don’t see any way he could win the Democratic primary. So if he’s not going to be there, we also don’t want for the candidate to be too far to the left, and right now there is a candidate that is too far to the left

who was bearing down Andrew Clomo’s back. So that’s how we thought we would get in and help him out here because it’s going to be an important race in November and it’s going to be, I think, a closer race than it usually is. So Thursday night all the candidates met and I thought they were significantly better than

that half hearted debate they had two or three weeks ago. The one I thought I proved the most was a v and Adams. Now we also considered her, but we just don’t think she has the money. We think we got into the the she got into the race too late.

But there were some real fiery episodes that brad Lander would not get off former Governor Cumo’s back on the issue of the harassment of women, and one thing that the former governor just for some reason just tries to change the subject subject. When this happened, it happens, and I don’t think it really went over very well. Now

finally the candidates I thought was really funny. They asked the question which burrow of the city have you gone to the least. Adrian Adams was asked first. She said Staten Island. Andrew Cuomo was second, he said Staten Island.

Brad Lander was third, he said Staten Island. They got to Scott Stringer, who said, oh, I’ve been running for mayor for years. I’ve been to all these places, but it certainly the Republicans will probably pick up a little support in Staton Island after that question and answer session.

Speaker 1 I mean, that’s, in another word, it’s it’s a burrow that nobody pays attention to.

Speaker 2 Not enough attention for all the mayoral candidates to basically admit that they hadn’t gone there that much.

Speaker 1 Now, the one thing I was concerned about. I was on with Rita on Thursday night on her show, and my analysis was that because of rank choice voting, if Andrew Cuomo was the most common sense of the seven individuals, does that mean the other seven gang up on him on ranked choice voting and beat him.

Speaker 2 Well, that’s an issue. And in fact, Mundani was encouraging people to give money and to give support to Adrian Adams. And I think that between Mundannie, Adams, and Brad Lander, I think that the three of them have kind of been hinting, hey, listen, you know, you know, make me your number two. But I don’t assume that Andrew Cuomo

is going to win this primary. And you really can’t assume that now because it polls that show Mandani five percent behind him. There’s one internal poll the reporter said he’s two points behind him. So the whole rank choice voting issue I think needs to be discussed and frankly needs to be abolished. I think it just makes it

too complicated. Let’s do it the way we did it in high school for the student council president. Whoever gets the best most votes wins period.

Speaker 1 I agree one hundred percent. In Governor. The other fact that I was concerned about, there was a rumor going around on Thursday night that even though everything is electronic, they’re not going to have results of the ranked choice voting for seven days.

Speaker 2 Oh great. You know the problem any delay in account starts to favor corruption. You know, that was certainly an issue in twenty twenty when President Trump challenged that he had thought he had actually won the election. And it’s happened in other situations, and we can do better than this.

There’s we’re gonna have these candidates come out here and work for six months to try to get people’s support, and then we have to wait a week to find out who actually won. That just that makes absolutely no sense at all.

Speaker 1 Well, Governor, you know we are where we are. The election’s coming up on the primary on June twenty fourth, anything else to say.

Speaker 2 Well, you’re right, John, in nine days to the primary, and I think in this last week you’ll see a whole lot of vote for me for Maior commercials on television, and somewhere between all those commercials you can watch the news.

Speaker 1 Thank you so much, Governor Patterson, and let’s catch you up real soon. And I hope there’s a common sense will prevail.

Speaker 2 I hope so too, John,
