Automated transcript · uncorrectedWell Sunday morning. Well, there’s an election coming up in Nassau County. It’s for District Attorney. And with us this morning is the current District attorney and Donnelly. And and Donnelly. Nasau County, according to US News and World Report, is the safest county in the United States of America. Congratulations, Thank you, John.
You know it’s through the great work and partnership that I have with the Nassau County Police Department and the other departments throughout the county that we’re able to work hard to keep this county and the people in it safe.
And tell us, what else can you do? I mean, if you’re the safest county in America, what else can you do during your next term to make it even safer?
Well, That’s what I’m going to be working on, John, I am running for reelection and to make the county safer. I’m still going to go to Albany and push for changes, meaningful changes to the discovery and bail laws and reforms that were passed that really hurt crime victims. And as much as I and as loud as I can yell
up in Albany, hopefully we can get some of those changes that really will make a difference. Keeping this county safe is a tough job, but it’s a great job and one I’m happy to do and I’m going to continue to do.
Understood, one of the biggest problems in the county was it, excuse me, the migrants, was it the drugs? Tell us.
Drugs remain a big problem in the county. Unfortunately. You know, the sentinel has been making its way into so many different drugs that we’re picking up off the streets. Now. It’s being pressed into pills that look like oxy cotton.
It’s being mixed in with heroin, mixed in with cocaine. So the victims don’t even know where they’re taking and they end up overdosing on something. So that’s a fight we have to keep up with. That’s a fight we have to continue. I send my prosecutors out to high schools across the county and talk about it, talk about
the realities and the importance of not getting involved with these drugs.
Understood. So it’s still drugs. Is there any sources where it’s coming in from. That’s not helping.
The biggest problem I believe is that the basic of the fentanyl comes in from Mexico and we haven’t been able to stop that or slow it down. You know, gangs. We just had the first one of the first arrests and indictments of the Trandenega gang members in Nassau County who are accused of armed robbery and attempted murder because
the woman that they were robbing they tried to kill.
Her, understood what’s something. So you’re gonna you’re gonna make sure. I mean, what can we do if the governor does not agree with Baille reefa.
I think all we can do is yell even more because unless we’re outspoken about it, and unless people talk about how it’s not making us safe, it’s making us less safe, then nothing will ever change. You know, when I went up to Albany a number of times, some of the lawmakers wouldn’t even meet with me. It’s like,
just listen for one minute. You know, I’m the person who does this, So I’m gonna keep fighting that fight.
Well, and Donnelle, thank you very much for the great job you do winging Naresa County and God bless you, and God bless
America you too, John, thank you, Thank you
