Speaker 1 What is this morning, is Governor David Pattison, Well, it’s Sunday morning. He’s always with us on Sunday morning morning. They give us the recap of what’s going on in our city, our state of country. Governor Patterson, where should we start this.

Speaker 2 Morning, Well, John, if you don’t mind, I’d like to start on a personal note. It has to do with something twenty years ago that occurred and it was an assistant district attorney in Albany County by the name of David Sores decided to challenge the sitting district attorney district attorney and he was able to win, and he promised

to do a lot of progressive things that were, you know, a little beyond perhaps what district attorneys do. And he’s enjoyed a very strong period from over the last twenty years guiding the law enforcement in Albany. However, he got a candidate that ran against him in.

Speaker 3 The primary this year who.

Speaker 2 Is so progressive that you wonder if anybody will even be asked to pay bail if this person gets in and they won the primary. So Sora Is now is looking to run as a right in candidate, and that will reignite the interest in the race itself, because it generally would have been considered that the Democrat would win

the election. But now Stas comes in as a right in candidate, he might have a chance to get back in and that would really be great for the citizen.

Speaker 1 Well, I interviewed him this morning, and he sounds like a very decent person and he deserves to win because he stands for Tommons Senson the Democratic Party.

Speaker 2 Yeah, and that’s what’s happened, is that he’s kind of evolved away from you know, the bomb throwers of the nineties and the beginning of the you know, two thousands. But he’s a very reasonable person and he never you know, what they say about Das is the less you hear about them, the better job they’re probably doing. And so

I just want to wish him well. Now, on the other end, we got a visit this week from the former president. He came out to New York, went to the National Coliseum. It was interesting. It was really very orderly, you know, very well run. There was some protests, most of them were before he came, so he didn’t really

have a clash between his supporters and the people who were protesting. The Haitian community in Long Island is growing. It’s pretty large, and they had a huge rally and protesting his remarks about what the pets that he felt were being eaten in Springfield, Ohio by the migrants at taking them away from their owners. And but what was

interesting is that he did repeat that he’s going to you know, repeal his own decision about the sault tax in twenty seventeen. And that’s the second or third time he said it.

Speaker 3 So I get the I just get the.

Speaker 2 Feeling that the president thinks he’s going to win, but he wants to make sure he’s going to win. So he’s taking a couple of stands that you would more normally hear from a moderate, such as his idea not to tax workers on their overtime pay.

Speaker 1 So that’s and how about no no taxes on tips.

Speaker 3 And no taxes on tips, which you know what a recommendation I gave to him that maybe our military military personnel that uh are earning very very little money.

Speaker 1 Uh and I’m not gotten a decent raise, maybe they should, you know, there are they they should pay taxes, especially if they’re you know, uh, just to help them out.

Speaker 2 Well if they’re putting their lives on the line for our country. Uh, that’s the least we could do.

Speaker 1 How come me and you don’t argue about anything.

Speaker 2 Oh, I’m sure we’ll find something to oka on each other about pretty soon. But but really, uh that that’s a great suggestion. And what was his response to it?

Speaker 1 I he uh he, you know, he’d never he says yes and no. He moved his head like, you know, that’s not a bad idea.

Speaker 2 Yeah, yeah, I actually kind of remember that about him. Yeah, So. Right now, this is really, you know, I must say, an exciting kind of time because there has not been a dull moment in the presidential race. I sort of thought it sort of would be. But with the emergence of Kamala Harris as a Democratic candidate as opposed to

Joe Biden, I mean, they have really mixed it up a little bit. And even after the terrible news that there was a second plan to try to assassinate the former president, I thought that Vice President Harris was very cautious and very careful and very caring when she called the president and he congratulated it for her at one

of his rallies. Now the crowd booed her but you know, there’s some issue that should not be overtly political, and when a human being’s light is at stake, had the the Secret Service agent not spotted the gun and then they chased and apprehended the suspect, we’d be talking a different story. So I think it was the right thing

to wish the president well and make sure that he was okay. But they’ll be right back at it as they have been since then. And I know that the President said that he won the first debate. It doesn’t seem a reason to have a second debate. But I kind of know him a little bit, you know. I

don’t think he’d ever want anyone even suggesting that he was not willing to have a second debate, So I predict that there might be a second debate. I think.

Speaker 1 Again, we agree, We always agree, uh now, I you know, condolences to our mutual friend tongusman Charlie Wrangle, the chairman, and he’d lost his wife this week, Almah. Has the funeral happened yet or have they had a funeral?

Speaker 2 I think they’re going to announce it in a day or two, and I’ll certainly let you know. I know that both Charlie and al Alma Ranger along with David Dinkins used to like to go out for those dinners with you, and then you’ve all decided to to bring in a you know, a new generation.

Speaker 1 Yeah, we’re going to bring you in to replace David Dinkins exactly.

Speaker 2 And Alma Wrangele, who stood by her husband and was very active herself in politics, lived to a hundred years old, and she was a dear friend of my mom, who just passed away two months ago. You know, in the Harlem area, we’re kind of losing the elders a little bit, but hopefully we are going to move forward. And certainly

the best thing about the Wrangles and the Dinkins as well is how they could take you on on an issue but not insult you at the same time.

Speaker 1 No, no, I always Me and Charlie have been friends for over forty years and I always found that Yes. Absolutely. Now one last question and we’re out of time, is I had breakfast reference with the cardinal the other day.

Is is the vice president Horrid’s going to show up for the Al Smith dinner.

Speaker 2 I think it would be a terrible mistake if she didn’t show up for the for the dinner. But I think she’ll I think she’ll be there. It might have to be explained to her that this is not a setup.

I’ve been there. I went to the dinner one year and sat next to Cindy McCain, John mccaine’s wife. Yes, we had a great conversation. Everybody is very respectful. She’ll be treated. It is New York, that is, you know, in some ways President Trump’s territory. But she will not be going to an inquisition. She’ll be allowed to have

her time. And you know a lot of the the alfth dinner is about humor, and so I would like to see she and the president, you know, to their own little Saturday night Live and light light up the stage that night.

Speaker 1 Well, thank you so much, David Pattison, the former governor, and uh, thank you for your common sense. And we’ll catch up again real soon. Take care,
