Speaker 1 Sunday Morning with us this morning is Patrick Morrissey, the Attorney General of the great State of West Virginia, and he is running for governor in just fifty days, for forty eight days, whatever it is. And well, Attorney General Morrissey, tell us what can you accomplish in West Virginia. My wife used to used to dance in Beckley and I’m

looking forward to coming and visiting. Tell us about West Virginia. What do you look forward to doing?

Speaker 2 Well, John, It’s great to be with you for this program. There’s so many incredible opportunities coming out of West Virginia. I’ve been the Attorney General of West Virginia for the past twelve years and we’ve made our mark going after federal overreach and trying to restore sane, constitutional government to our country. But the opportunity to be governor gives us

the ability as a state to really move forward economically. One of the things we’re trying to do is be a real leader in the region for having the lowest income tax rate. That’s a huge priority because I think a lot of people make decisions when they’re attracted to come to a state on the basis of a couple

core facts. They look at the taxation right, that’s critical. They look at educational policy, what’s the quality of the schools, is their connectivity? Do you have access to the internet, do you have the right infrastructure and healthcare? There are all these questions that people ask. So we want to make sure that West Virginia is by far the most

competitive state from a tax perspective in the region, so we have lower taxes than Pennsylvania and Virginia and Maryland and Kentucky and Ohio. Then the next thing we’re going to do is we’re going to be looking at how we can be known as the deregulatory state. So if you think about what helped Delaware become so sixssful economically

over time, they were known for being the incorporation state, and a lot of people used to house their headquarters there. It was a huge boon for Delaware. We want to be doing something similar and be known as the state that is more favorable from a regulatory perspective than any other state in America, and that’s going to be very

attractive for companies to come locate. We also want to be aggressive on workforce and licensing rules to make it easier to locate there. So the bottom line is where you’re going to try to work to drive workforce participation and population up. We know we’re one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth, and so

people should come there. And I’m excited because we just have to unlock some of the amazing opportunities in front of us for West Virginia to soar well.

Speaker 1 I’ve flown to West Virginia because I used to be a pilot and it is beautiful country, beautiful country. I lived in Tennessee for a while when I was running a company down there, and I’ve been to Virginia. But West Virginia and Virginia beautiful countries absolutly. And originally you came you were a New Yorker from Brooklyn, but you

found a better way and moved down to West Virginia.

Speaker 2 You know, it’s amazing because I never would be expected to be here today as the state attorney general, or I’m running for governor in our state and have an excellent chance of winning. I wouldn’t imagined that. But quite frankly, my values really match up very well with the people of the state. I know that when Obama and Biden

came coming for our coal and our natural gas and our energy resources. I’ve stood up and I fought and we’ve won big, big cases, and so we’ve worked to protect West Virginia jobs. And you know, I’m a conservative, and I’m proud to say that, and I think that the people West Virginia. I’m proud that they’ve treated me

so well. And I’ve been humbled by the experience. We’ve done a lot of work because I think I relate well to the people. I didn’t grow up with any money. Fortunate. We’ve been very aggressive taking on the drug epidemic. I know from a personal experience what that’s like. I know people that have been touched affected by it. So I

think that those connections have made a difference. And I’m just appreciative that West Virginia’s given me this opportunity.

Speaker 1 Well, Toney, general, the most important thing, you know, what I tell people, it’s not about being a democratic or Republican, but it’s about having common sense. So having common sense is more important. And we want to grow our country, and we want to grow our businesses, and we don’t want people to do business in other countries. We want

them to do business in the United States of America, and you are one common sense individual and that’s why I decided to support you from the very beginning.

Speaker 2 Well, you’re very kind and John, You’re right when you think about the economic policies we’re talking about. We’re talking about comparing our tax structure, our regulatory structure, our education structure, are licensing, our work for rules with all the states that we touch. And then when you do that, you can go to the public and say this state does it,

or this is a more free policy, it’s more economically viable. We need to do that, and I think people react to that common sense and having competition. That’s a pretty common sense principle, and I’m hopeful that that type of aggressiveness economically is going to really be rewarded in our state.

Speaker 1 And the other thing I like about you is it a fact you’re telling all the people all the good things you’re going to do, not bad things that your opponents that need to do. It’s more important telling people I’m gonna do this and this and let the people without a doubt.

Speaker 2 We just came out of a primary, so I’m the Republican nominee for governor, and we came out of primary and there were many dozens of ads or run but I can tell you this much of the ten ads that we ran, I think we did one contrast ad, but nine of them were positive. And John, I’m a believer.

You tell people what you’re all about so people can make an informed decision. And West Virginia has a lot to be proud of. And it’s going to be the honor of my life to serve as the state’s next governor.

So grateful to be with you today. There’s so much good that could be done for West Virginia to lift up our standard of living, drive educational attainment through the roof, but also serve as a model nationally for our state manages its state’s government.

Speaker 1 Attorney General Patrick Morrissey. Hopefully in like forty eight days, I’ll be able to call you Governor Morrissey.

Speaker 2 Amen, John, and I looking forward to seeing you and having you come back to visit Beckley, West Virginia. It’s calling your name and your wife’s name, and we’ll be happy to have you down.

Speaker 1 God bless you, and God bless America. Thank you so much. Thank you,
