Speaker 1 Sunday morning. Well with us today’s Governor David Pattison, one common sense guy and Governor, it’s a new weekend. What what are we going to talk about? Today?

Speaker 2 Was a new weekend following a pretty exciting week John because President Trump who had his trip to Katar and also other parts of the of the Mediterranean and went to Saudi Arabia. But now he intimated Wednesday or Thursday, I’m not sure which day it was, but he intimated that he’d be willing to go anywhere if.

Speaker 1 There were some peace talks.

Speaker 2 Now, later on on Air Force One.

Speaker 1 He said to the reporters.

Speaker 2 That he’s not going to ask Putin to meet him any place until they decide exactly what’s the right place for them to meet. So the two of them are not going to be meeting in Qatar or something like that.

Speaker 1 Oh, they were going to meet in Turkey u Zelenski and Putin, but Putin I guess maybe he felt that they weren’t close enough to the deal to meet with Jelensky.

Speaker 2 Yeah, he’s very careful and cautious about what he does. And the Russian diplomats, particularly the ones that speak English, when I hear them interviewed by Fox and CNN and that kind of thing. They’re always acting like somebody’s picking on and they’ve been responsible for more picking on bullying and taking over territories that don’t deserve, don’t belong to them.

But President Trump is the one who seems to have their ear. And it would be interesting if sometime, perhaps you know, two or three weeks from now, they pick aside and have a meeting. It would project all of them, with exception maybe a President Trump to their highest credibility rating.

If Zelensky took the time to have the meeting, if Putin took the time to have the meeting, and you know some of the others who are involved. But it’s a very interesting concept. Now. Meanwhile, while that’s what’s going on overseas, the Supreme Court is hearing the arguments about the issue involving whether or not a person born on

American soil is an automatic citizen or if they’re not so. In other words, maybe a family travels, they’re new in the country, and they have a baby. They have the baby in the country, but they’re really from another country.

Can the government view the baby as much as an immigrant as the parents. I think just listening to the judges debate this on Thursday. I think that the President will lose this argument because it’s either one way or it’s the other. It’s either that we are trying to follow the constitution of our four fathers or four parents,

or it’s that so much for our four parents. That’s what they thought at that particular time. But this is a different and difficult period of time for a country, and we want the right to view individuals born in this country whose families were really from another country not to have that privilege. I don’t think he’ll he’ll be able.

Speaker 1 I’ll till you governor me and you always have opinions, and ninety percent of the time, ninety five percent we probably agree on things.

Speaker 2 But I’m getting that we’re getting to the five percent that we don’t agree.

Speaker 1 Well, no, I’ll tell you my opinion that things were different two hundred years ago when this Constitution was written to what it is now. I don’t mind immigration, but you know, if the kids want to become I came here my parents and me I was six months old, and I got my American citizenship papers when I was

six years So why automatically make them citizens versus Tony through the system of saying yes, I love America, I love and I’m loyal to America and become a United States citizen, versus sneaking them in from the border because the wife is pregnant.

Speaker 2 When no one should ever be sneaking anybody in.

Speaker 1 That’s well, think about what I just said.

Speaker 2 But at the same time, I think the reason they wrote the Constitution the way they did is they were really welcoming people to come into the country. At that particular time, you did not have the terrible problem that we have now where a person just because they are an immigrants get services. We had non citizen voting right

here in New York City.

Speaker 1 No, I agree, But how about when we had Ellis Island, And this is a good discussion. When we had Ellis Island, we wanted to make sure people are coming in because they want to become Americans and they want to uh uh, and they’re healthy and they’re not they’re not diseased, and their kids are healthy. So if they sit next to

our the American kids at the in school, the American kids are not going to get sick. And there’s checks and balances.

Speaker 2 Okay, that’s fair enough. But what would you do if a woman at Ellis Island who is trying to become an American citizen has a baby.

Speaker 1 If she qualifies to come into America. I would if she had the baby while she was here, then then I’d make the baby in the American citizen.

Speaker 2 I’m shocked, John, I actually convinced you of something. I’ve been on the show five.

Speaker 1 Years, non me. You have pretty good discussions.

Speaker 2 Yeah, absolutely, But that’s that’s how I feel about that. Last thing I want to talk about real quick is the evolution of the Democratic Party, which is getting further and further away from where the average American thinks. Then people would believe and champions issues that may be legitimate issues, but when you’re trying to win elections, it’s about how

the public is feeling. Too many Democrats go out on the limb about how they are feeling and then think that the public has to react that way. The public is not reacting that way. And the biggest problem we’re having right now is we need another Bill Clinton, a person who’s going to come along as a Democrat and

make the statement that I heard him make when I was in a room with him in nineteen ninety two, and he said the pain argument is not working, meaning that all the plights that a lot of Americans have might need redress, but it is not making an impression on the overwhelming number of people work in art or

federal elections who are thinking about their children, their families, the jobs they have, their.

Speaker 1 I was, you’re convincing me I was a Bill Clinton fan. That’s a different kind of Democrats.

Speaker 2 Well, see, I wasn’t at first, John, because I was still stuck in that place where it’s all about, you know, certain types of rights and how they’re enforced and that kind of thing. But I would definitely say by nineteen ninety six, when he won, when it looked like he was a goner in nineteen ninety five, I became a

big fan of President Clinton.

Speaker 1 And I’ve always been. I worked very hard for him, and I thought he had a lot of common sense. Hey, does presidents make mistakes? Yeah, nobody’s perfect. Well what did well? One of our favorite mayors say one time, may of touch.

If you agree with me seventy percent of the time, I’m very happy. If you agree with me one hundred percent of the time, I think you’re nuts. Something like that.

Speaker 2 Yes, no, that’s exactly what he said.

Speaker 1 Yeah, and well, Governor, thank you for being on this Sunday morning. And I am glad that we both agree on most things, and you’re doing a great job on the left versus the right.

Speaker 2 Oh, thank you so much.
