Automated transcript · uncorrectedWell, I hear good news. President Trump is putting the world back together. And now with us today is Ambassador Matthew Whittaker to NATO and maybe NATO is coming back together. Ambassador Whittaker tell us thee Well, what’s happening when NATO you’re there and you just had important meetings?
Yeah, John, I was just in Ontalia, Turkey. Now I’m thinking to night tonight in Estonia before I head back to Brussels. But you know, today the foreign ministers of all of our NATO allies met, including Marco Rubio and myself, and we seem to have consensus as we head into the summit in about five weeks in the Hague in
the Netherlands, that everyone’s agreeing to five percent of their growth domestic products spent on defense and defense related items. And so this is this is huge. I can’t tell you how important this is and how big a step this is for the alliance because really what it does is it’s going to shift the responsibility of security of
Europe to our European allies. You know, big rich countries like Germany, France, Denmark and so many others that are going to finally step into their responsibilities and protecting their continent. The United States again, it’s going to remain a great ally and a crucial member of the Alliance. But at the same time, you know, the days of you know,
the United States taxpayer footing the bill for European security is over. And so I mean, this is a this is going to be a huge moment. President Trump deserves all the credit. You know, he changed the conversation when he first got elected in twenty seventeen, and now that he’s back, I think, you know, we’re really seeing the
fruits of that. And so we’re going to have a historic summit at the end of June, and today’s meeting really locked that in and UH and and hearing all the allies enthusiastically support this this new defense commitment, I think it’s just, you know, it’s gonna be one of the biggest wins for President Trump. I think, uh, this
in this term. But you know, again, he’s working on a lot of other things that you know, Johnny’s working on, piece in the Middle East, piece between Russia and Ukraine. You know, he ended the fighting between Pakistan and India.
You know, he just met with the Syrian Uh. President I mean there’s so much we’re gonna get tired of winning. But I’m not. I’m not tired of it yet.
Ambassador Whittaker. The most important thing is you’re the NATO ambassador. You put together this deal that NATO is going to be sharing and equally on these expenses. Uh. And that’s a good deal for the United States of America versus a few weeks ago, Germany and France. We’re trying to say, oh, we may go off on our own. So I think
that’s a good deal. I think NATO, a strong NATO is good. Since you are there, you’re in Brussels, that’s where your offices give us your your your pulse on the Ukrainian Russian situation. Yeah.
Well, we’re inching very slowly and probably slower than President Trump wants to peace deal. Obviously, you know, he is trying to get both sides together. You have to both agree. You can’t have a deal without both sides agreeing. And you know, I think we’re you know, we’re we’re having slow progress. But at the same time, you know, Donald
Trump has brought these sides together. They were not talking for the last three years. And because of Donald Trump’s historic election and his leadership, we are seeing these sides slowly come together. I think we’re going to you know, keep inching towards a ceasefire, towards a lasting piece, and towards an end to the needless killing and slaughter that’s
going on in the battlefield in Ukraine. And so I mean again, you know, all the credit goes to Donald Trump and his diplomacy. You know, we just need to get both sides to show up, show up at a high level, and then come to an agreement. But I think, you know, we are obviously getting closer by the day.
And none of this was happening before he got elected and showed up on the world stage. So give him all the credits.
Well, bested, thank you so much for bringing the American people up to date. A strong NATO helps see the free world say free, and we’ll catch up with you again
Real soon, all right, my friend, Thanks John, Thank you,
