David Paterson Former Governor of New York
Waning days of the Presidential campaign name calling.

Automated transcript · uncorrectedSunday morning. What would be Sunday morning without a governor? David Patterson. He gives us words of wisdom, Well, governor, nine day city election. What the heck is going on?
But John, as we approach this election, which is our quadrennial referendum on leadership and presumably policy, I think the American people have really been cheated out of a strong campaign by both candidates. And the reason is, and I just don’t understand this, because you know I’ve been in politics.
When you say something, when you put it out into the atmosphere, you can’t come back and act like you didn’t say it again. So let’s start with President Trump. He had a chart where he was showing the lowest a number of people that were being allowed into the border, and he says January first, this lowest number was where
the Biden administration immediately didn’t do anything, and then the number of people crossing the border multiplied logarithmatically. The problem is that the date that he cited January first was actually April first.
Of twenty twenty.
That’s when the crossing the border number reached the lowest level under his administration, which was very good, but it actually quadruple by the time it got to January first, twenty twenty one. So how big of a difference was there.
It was pretty significant. In other words, a lot of people came in in twenty twenty.
Now is it one hundred thousand, is it a million?
I don’t think it’s a million, but it was a significant amount coming late in his administration.
Now, not to be outdone, we have.
Vice President Kamala had Harris who’s saying on all of these interviews that she does that she did not oppose fracking when she was a candidate for president.
Well, she did oppose fracking.
What she did is when she was picked to run for vice president, she kept saying President Biden will not stop fracking.
She doesn’t get off the.
Hook because she’s connected to him. She is not stating the truth, which is that she’s never actually said that she is going to change her position on fracking. Between nineteen twenty nineteen and twenty twenty four. She had plenty of time to change her position if she wanted to, or even in the last few months, but she doesn’t
do it. And so what the campaign has devolved into is this sort of back and forth about who said what, and you know what kind of people. He doesn’t think she’s very smart. She thinks that he’s a fascist. This is not helping a country, who think about it.
We have.
Companies out of business and going out of business. We have state budgets wildly out of balance. We have more people living without food and shelter than at any time since the turn of the century, people losing their jobs, and all they can think of is to talk about these subjects that are serious subjects, both of them are,
but they’re not taking them seriously.
Understood telling the truth. Are newspapers and networks doing the same thing.
Yes, they are covering up when the person they are supporting makes a mistake.
Not only the newspapers, but of.
Course there’s the allegation about sixty minutes that hasn’t been resolved.
That would be a horrible.
You know, turn for such a well respected program. People are making up excuses for when the candidates do certain things. Listen, I’m supporting Vice President Harris, but I think I’ve been honest enough to come on this show and to point out when I think she’s.
Made big mistakes.
I thought she did a very good town meeting one seeing in the other night, but you know, I try to be.
There’s only very few people that said that, excluding the CNN people.
Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe I was half asleep.
Well I was half asleep too, but I woke up from the CNN people criticize it.
Well, there’s there really is a difficulty, and actually it sort of explains the problem that a lot of candidates have. It’s very difficult to get up and talk to people, and they come up with these questions about situations you might not be up on, and it’s a very difficult thing to do, which is why I think both of
the candidates, and I don’t blame either one of them for this, tried to turn the questions into answers that they’ve already decided they’re going to give.
Understood, What where, where? Where the heck are we doing with nine days to go? Nobody’s telling the truth. The border crisis is the border crisis. Who’s more like me to stop the border crisis? Is a Trump or kla Harris?
Well, I would think, you know, just based on past activity, that the border crisis is a better subject for him to actually discuss. I think it works for him, Harris.
I just have this feeling based.
On a couple of people who knew her a long time ago, an attorney general of New York State named and an Attorney general a New York State named Eric Schneidewood, who said that she was real tough and not the big, you know.
Liberal that she’s portrayed to be these days.
But as a district attorney, I hope that if she wins, that she brings that part of her character back, because that’s what she would need to tackle the border crisis. I think President Trump is conceded to be the one.
Oh who’s more like me.
He’s going to stop the fetanah from coming in from Mexico.
Well, I would hope that both of them would would be you know, David, I know.
You know I love you dearly, but you know, I mean those are two key items and matter in the United States.
Well you should love me, dealer, because I told you I think those are advantages for Donald Trump. You won’t get too many Democrats to come on this show and.
Say that, no, you are an honest person. Thank you. And you know what I.
Said on television the other day is that the fact is we got to get the city safer, because when they can be to beat up the former governor on Third Avenue.
I mean, it’s crazy.
Well, I’ll tell you that’s how the Post reported it. But if you watch the video, I think I got the better of both of the fights I was in. The only problem is that when they got my step son down on the ground, they were kicking him. And when I was seeing it, it reminded me of the
old pictures of Rodney.
King, remember that Yashira.
It looked like that, and I think I had just a complete temper change from and was out of my mind for about ten minutes fighting with these kids.
Understood, we talked about the national election. We talked about the crime in the streets. Is there any hope that there’s gonna be some balance of power? Has Carl Hasty called you because he’s he really doesn’t want Bill Reformed to be fixed.
I think the problem right now is that people are dug in and the type of situation like I was very lucky when I became governor because the majority leader of the Senate at the time was the late Joe Bruno, and both he and I recognized that being from different parties and having different positions was not going to help
the terrible debt that New York State got into, and we worked together to eradicate it by twenty ten. Actually, Andrew Como finished a job in twenty eleven. And so I think that we’re just going to have to wait for this kind of this period of acrimony to pass by, so that we remember that we’re all neighbors and we’re
all New Yorkers, and we’re all Americans and started listening to what each other has to say. And I don’t think it’s coming right now because people are dug in another word, they just won’t budge off of their positions.
And this is that going on on both sides to a certain degree.
Well, I want to say, free safety.
And it’s eight and a half million New Yorkers, you live me and you live in the city, eight and a half men in New Yorkers, thirty three hundred repeat criminals. Why is there a decision to be made?
Well, I think in terms of the repeat offenders, the predicate felons, we have lightened up the sentences there where we should.
Not have in the past.
And I will not gonna say that I was saying the same thing years ago. I was trying to help people who were arrested and people who were in the criminal justice system as best as I could but hold the presses.
That was a mistake.
Governor David Patterson. You are one honest guy in one very decent human being. I would be next door neighbor and.
Time, but John and I thought you were my next door neighbor just about.
We’re only a few blocks away. Thank you so much, Governor Patterson.
