Speaker 1 Sunday morning. Well, there’s a race in Staten Island. It’s for Griffin, for Sella and Frank Morano. Griffith tell us how is the race going?

Speaker 2 Hey, John, thank you for having me. Always a pleasure as usual. Uh yeah. So I’ve been on the campaign trap for a couple of weeks now and we’re really hitting the ground running. I feel as though we have a lot of momentum on our side, just you know, going door to door speaking to constituents. They like the fact that I’m in

this race. They like the fact that there’s a young person my age willing to throw their hat into the ring. And you know, it’s it’s great to listen, you know, firsthand from the people of Staten Island what the issues really are. You know, they tell me time and time again that they want clean and safe communities and that

starts with supporting the NYPD. As the next councilman for the stulture of Staten Island, I will be the most pro NYPD member of the New York City Council. And you know, there are local issues that are affecting us as of right now. In the South Shore on Richmond Valley Road, there is a proposal for four story structure

that might be a homeless shelter. And I want the people of Staten Island to know that I will be an opponent to any homeless shelter that is placed on the south shore of Staten Island.

Speaker 1 Understood and tell us you are making sure that you want no crime in Staten Island. I guess your priority on that too.

Speaker 2 Yeah, you know, the people of Staten Island firmly stand behind them men and women in law enforcement, and unfortunately, through some liberal regressive policies that have taken place at the state and city level, there is a staffing shortage in the NYPD, and a staffing shortage in the NYPD risks the safety and security of our city and of

everyday New Yorkers. And as a council member, I will stand firmly in increasing funding and hiring and retaining more police officers so they can do their duty and keep the city safe.

Speaker 1 Back in nineteen eighty eight, the last time the city had a lot of problems with crime, I guess the President of the United States then, I think it was well either Reagan or Bush. They gave us five thousand extra police officers to help with crime in New York City, would you push for that? Yes.

Speaker 2 At the current rate in which police officers are resigning or retiring, more people are just not filling the roles, and you know there is a crisis at that level, and I would be open to any help from the federal estate government in increasing the body count for the NYPD.

Speaker 1 Understood. And you’re getting a lot of positive vibes from all of the people you’re meeting.

Speaker 2 Yeah, just you know, going door to door speaking with constituents firsthand.

Speaker 1 And in these constituents, what keeps him up at three o’clock in the morning, What do they tell you?

Speaker 2 You know, John, it comes back to safe communities, and you know the people of Staten Island deserve safe communities and that starts with the NYPD.

Speaker 1 Understood. Well, Griffin for Sella, thank you for coming on this Sunday morning. I give my regards to your dad and he’s doing a great job running the borough of Staten Island. And you know, like father, like son, and we’ll catch up again real.

Speaker 2 So thank you, John, and don’t forget to vote on April twenty nine.

Speaker 1 April twenty nine, I’ll vote often. Thank you so much. You don
